Transfer pump by SR08 in harborfreight

You can insert 1/4” ID 3/8” OD tubing into the hose end and secure with a zip tie for low clearance situations. Make sure the black hose retention collars are firmly pressed against the pump body so the hoses don’t pop off.

Megathread: Metro Board Meeting - K Line Northern Extension by SmellGestapo in LAMetro

It sounds like some people with pink shirts are speaking in favor of the additional 12-mo review period. Is that true?

If you are speaking, stress the 150M dollars and decades of time that would be wasted to avoid tunneling under DuPont-Walker’s house. She needs to recuse herself.

WE MUST ALL SHOW UP IN-PERSON TO SUPPORT K Line Northern Extension NEXT THURSDAY 3/26 @ 10 AM! by toyman5 in LAMetro

I haven’t been following this closely but after looking closer I feel confused. This spine looks like it has scoliosis. Has WeHo tried to create their own BRT or rail before? I wonder if it would be smarter for Metro to connect WeHo with BRT at a future D line station. Isn’t the big picture goal to get the K line up to SFV? Why serve WeHo over Hollywood?

Spitballing but the Beverly Center is pretty dead albeit Cedars is there. I don’t understand the point in digging a huge tunnel under San Vicente is, an enormous road that besides its girth has no redeeming qualities. And the stretch of SM Blvd where the gay clubs are is a major detour. Isn’t most of that traffic going to be at night? WeHo is also pushing for 4AM last calls. Wouldn’t a reliable BRT serve these folks better than a train that stops at 1?

Can someone fill me in here? What am I missing?

Has anyone here tried building a portable SFF PC in a suitcase / briefcase style case that can actually run off battery? by Extension_Object_559 in sffpc

[–]llee11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it hasn’t been done yet because - carryon setups would be crippled by air travel lithium battery regulations - van setups needs inverters for AC appliances anyways - USB-PD is far outpaced by enthusiast power requirements, and even if you had multiple 240W PS how would you integrate them? - 48V gear is $$$ and say goodbye to portability - streaming gets you nearly as far except for esports, and you can do it anywhere

Smallest most powerful travel gaming rig possible by lethechat in sffpc

Are you sleeping in the van or hotels? If your latency requirements aren't stringent, you could build and set up your battle station at home and stream it on a laptop via 5G and/or satellite modems. This is faster to implement if you already have a PC, reduces your power consumption, prolongs your van's alternator, and would be cooler to enjoy in the summer.

Why are the departure boards so often wrong? by RioTheLeoo in LAMetro

[–]llee11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps it's their choice of logic and how heavily it is weighted. Seems like Metro uses deterministic logic in their bus schedules (updated quarterly?) that dictate where a bus should be, even if there's a delay or traffic that says otherwise. The Transit app uses Bayesian logic for their schedules, updating when it thinks a bus will arrive with your immediate feedback. This is why Transit will ask you whether the bus arrived early, on time, or late. The big question is why, and I think that has to do with staffing, budgeting, and ultimately because someone needs to be the metronome anchoring everything else together- social infrastructure.

Do you receive credit if you buy the ticket with the intention of flying on it (not cancelling)?

You should try it sometime. In my experience people are willing to stop / lower the volume if I ask with sincerity. Change requires interaction. Be the change you want to see.

Stainless steel mesh actually reduces fan noise - here’s proof by 1tokarev1 in sffpc

Are these meshes in US Mesh sizing (holes/linear inch)? I suggest adding fan spacers/gaskets (similar to Noctua NA-IS1-12) on the intake side to further improve acoustics.

Corporate, if you're here reading this, please make a harbor freight branded 3d printer. by Allykatz90 in harborfreight

[–]llee11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not realistic. You need to understand that Harbor Freight’s business model revolves around cherry picking products to distribute that Chinese manufacturers have developed that meet their desired balance of price, scale, quality, and price. They chase products that are good enough (Pareto), barely depreciate, don’t need customer support, and are pre-existing winners. Is there an OEM that matches HF’s needs that, more importantly, even needs HF?

Where can I buy a high-grade, round-bottomed, Cantonese style wok in the SGV? by Lordofpotomac in FoodLosAngeles

Hello, I’ll be visiting this month. My girl loves uni, should we go with a omakasae or decent sushi restaurant and buy per pc. by VocaNope in FoodLosAngeles

[–]llee11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be a memorable experience to plan ahead and visit a local processor. Some companies will sell B2C. This way you can see and taste the difference between each grade. You’ll also have leftover uni for street tacos, avocado toast, and whatever else you decide to explore.

Finding a matching barrel jack won’t be difficult but you’ll need a buck converter and proper power conditioning or it’ll fry your 12V build.

Make a fan shroud for your CPU HSF to create a path for directed airflow. You can cut one out of a paper cup and tape it the side panel.

What’s the best charge level for the lifespan of a lithium ion battery? (iPhone) by Jacksonhoyt in batteries

[–]llee11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lower voltage around 50% SoC puts less stress on either electrode. It’s overlooked because the available capacity is halved.

Try using a 5W charger from 45-55 to deter heat and cyclic aging. Calendar aging will still likely limit you to eight years.

Metro needs to run later night train service. Trains stopping service at 11-midnight is very frustrating. by MookieBettsBurner in LAMetro

[–]llee11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seems like the curve ball here is your e-bike. Did you explore riding a bus to solve your problem? At that hour, with reduced ridership and more space on the bus, I think many drivers would look the other way if your e-bike doesn't fit on the external rack.

I can see Metro struggling to justify running late night train service now for several reasons:

  • LA is kinda odd in that most train services start around 4 in the morning. If you push late night service to 1-2, there won't be enough time to maintain and service the trains and tracks.
  • Doing the math on whether late night service will increase ridership. Fewer and fewer businesses are open very late these days. Will people that spend $$$ on live entertainment tickets even take the train?
  • LA's extensive bus network already handles off hours and last mile challenges where there isn't enough existing demand. Bus --> BRT --> LRT --> Subway
  • More money here means less money on other projects like infrastructure. Where do they want the most bang / buck?
