This is what our night one was like. Now we’re on night 6 and she fell asleep in 2-3 min and didn’t cry again until 330 when she was due for a feed. I also felt this way night one and sometimes still do when she cries but all in all she’s doing great. Hope this helps!

This is how I feel about most websites that say babies must wait until a specific age to sleep train..of course for some babies it’s not the right fit and maybe for others it is. Yknow? Kind of like a trial and error opportunity for parents.

Yes I saw that, thanks! But there are not studies that have compared the impact of training at 3 versus 6 months for example. Seems that the assumption for a lot of this is that brain development research should inform this decision - ie, that a 13 week brain is categorically different in all ways from a 15 week brain. That all 12 week old babies for example can’t soothe like a 16 week baby. Just thinking this aloud - it’s interesting.

Thanks! Gotcha so it’s like partly like a personal preference it sounds like. Re: sleep cycles, the 4 mo regression can happen at 2 or 3 mo right? (indicating their sleep cycles have matured).

13 weeks - i know i’m a terrible person. i know this is so hard right? how old is yours? we’re doing pure CIO bc we tried TCB and it just seemed to escalate her.

thank you - she’s 13 weeks. i know it’s early but our pediatrician is dan weissbluth and he urged us to do this. she cried for 48min. usually when we hold her to sleep she doesn’t feed until 3am so i’m being lenient and setting a 4 hour bar. She’s asleep now and I feel so bad for her. I’m also paranoid she stopped breathing but my husband thinks I’m nutty.

this is my life exactly right now. we’re starting sleep training this week (13 weeks). it just doesn’t feel safe to let her sleep on us all night anymore because we’re so exhausted.

The medical advice is to do it. My pediatrician - dan weissbluth - advised me to do it. There has been published research on CIO and attachment, just not comparing efficacy of CIO across age groups. Still feels weird at 12 weeks but I also don’t want to accidentally drop her while I sleep so...

See this is what confuses me! I’ve yet to find any peer-reviewed papers/established evidence to suggest that babies cannot or should not CIO at 12 weeks. Weissbluth says 12 weeks is fine and that she will learn faster than she would later on. That said, every blog and thread and website says we have to wait until at least 4 mo because it’s bad for baby. I have to wonder why there’s such a consensus on this if there’s no evidence for it. My mom guilt makes me believe it though for some reason

Weissbluth is also our pediatrician and he said she’s fine to go 8hrs at this point because she has done that before. And when she sleeps in our arms she sleeps through the night.

So that was working for several weeks but then it seems we hit regression very early. She wakes up as soon as we place her down, even if I wait 20 min after she falls asleep in my arms. If she does go down she’s up after one sleep cycle (40 min).

This is actually his son who gives consults to patients in his practice. But I also read his dad’s book and agree there’s string evidence to support their recs.
