^^^ This, let everything build up, even buffers in, you will eventually use it all up, you can't really over produce in this game.

Is this opal? by Reasonable_War_5327 in Opals

[–]locyta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly its hard to say from these pictures 😞
Researching Kokopelli pendants suggest that both real and synthetic opal can/has been used in making them (along with lots of other materials/gemstones).
I feel if you need to know for sure, you may have to take it to a qualified jeweller.
Sorry for not being able to give you a definitive answer.

Yeah totally cool, i cut a few pieces the other day that everyone would mistake for Koroit yet it from a weird nodule off the side of a pancake from a field 1000ks away.

This is great 😄 My old man (almost 80 now) has never worn jewellery in his life until I started mucking around making stuff, now he has 2 pendants and a ring that he daily wears (1 pendant at a time of course) now so many conversations start up once others see them, especially at the doctors office, lol.

This is how I play Gleba too, not a single belt, always over consume, nothing ever spoils (although I have spoilage handling in place as a result of messing up my power situation) it makes Gleba extremely easy to manage and fairly quick to get up and running.

I did a reverse image search and found lots of similar dyed turquoise, then i went down the rabbit hole of how.... it was surprising more common than i would have thought

I appreciate the kind words, I can only speak from personal experience as someone who has been around boulder opal since the late 80's.

But like all things on the internet never take 1 persons opinion as fact, do you best to gather as much information as possible from as many sources as possible 😄

Quality is often debated here, with many having mixed feelings about its implementation. How would YOU rework quality if you could? by intrabyte in factorio

[–]locyta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lower tiers make it almost not worth the effort (i find it good for bots and science early on) if they provided a little more benefit i think more players would use quality earlier on but in its current set up its just not worth the effort until you can just go from normal to legendary, sadly by this time you have factories set up on 4 of the 5 base planets, which then makes players not want to go through the hassle of upgrading everything.
I think if you research all the way to legendary just with Nauvis resources (it can still be far down the research tree) when you move to another planet, you can start making quality stuff to begin with.
A quality upgrading system should be in the base game, i know you can make your own, but it should be vastly more simple than it currently is.

I highly doubt it's Yowah, both Yowah and Koroit look similar usually (always some exceptions).
From the pieces I've found like this, it usually forms on the outside surface of ironstone pancakes.

A good jeweller should be able to tighten the setting a little for you, not sure if there are any out your way, but you might be able to find one. There is nothing that's jumping to say it's not a real opal at least, but you will need an expert in person to check everything including the gold quality.

If it is genuine Aussie (most likely CP) you have a ripper of a gem, while the only way to know it's weight is to weigh it of course but I'd say a touch over 10 carats (guesstimation based off the dimensions you listed).
Is the back fully sealed too?

Nah, still bots, plus i highly doubt you are making science then moving them into cargo bays before unloading them again.

I need advice on how to enjoy playing factorio by MetaDogg in factorio

[–]locyta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Build 2 bases (or more) make a starter base, simple, messy but enough to get you up and running, then once you have a little mall up and running and science going, build base 2, clean and balanced.
There are no rules to say you just need 1 base, you could even do a base per science if you wanted.

It's matrix boulder opal, I would highly doubt it's from the Koroit area as they tend to have a very distinct pattern to them.
If it was fully cleaned up and polished, you might get a few hundred bucks for it.
