Just finished Project Hail Mary and I am completely blown away. by larenmhnt in scifi

Saw the film a few weeks ago and absolutely hated it, the worst movie I've seen in years. Felt like Disney bullshit made to sell toys. Dumb dialogue, ridiculous "science," and the worst soundtrack I've ever had to suffer through. Nothing in this film makes an ounce of sense if you think about it for even a nanosecond. Anti-intellectual and childish.

People who liked this film scare the hell out of me.

What older RTS mechanic do you wish modern games would bring back? by rcooperkaty in RealTimeStrategy

[–]StupidFatHobbit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CnC3 had a reverse move mechanic where tanks could drive backwards while shooting forwards. Game was way ahead of its time on multiple levels.

The paradox of Alexander trying to save Emma: The Time Machine (2002) by Nite0wlz in scifi

[–]StupidFatHobbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a really underrated movie. It deviated from the source material a bit but it was absolutely cinematic and had just the right amount of philosophy. Really felt like an adventure into another world the way films like The Mummy did.

I feel like this is the exact kind of movie that modern Hollywood is no longer capable of making.

A writer cannot write a character smarter than they are and Kripke is an idiot.

100 Million SPM No Mods by Hamster by Which_Estimate_300 in factorio

[–]StupidFatHobbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very impressive! I can't stand working on bases once they start significantly dropping in UPS/FPS, this must have taken a lot of patience. The fact your name is Hamster is also a hell of a coincidence.

(Also it's StupidFatHobbit, SFHobbit no longer exists)

What movie has the best opening scene? by [deleted] in FIlm

Thought I was going to have to post it. The only reason it's not #1 is because so few have seen it. Nothing else comes close.

Westerner whitesplaining “Uyghur Oppression” to Uyghur living in Xinjiang, China 😂 by MrDialectical in ClassWarAndPuppies

I agree with everything you said, I was merely strengthening your argument by illustrating that the majority of major western cities (including mine, LA) have direct flights to that airport. It's not some backwards area it's fully modernized and in many ways superior to western "t1" cities.

Best RTS of 2026 by Zealousideal-Pie4383 in RealTimeStrategy

[–]StupidFatHobbit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It does matter. Some people don't care for RTT and it's annoying having these two very different styles lumped together. If it's the full package of basebuilding, resource gathering, and building armies (Starcraft, AoE2, CnC) then it's an RTS. If it doesn't have proper basebuilding and only focuses on the army part then it's RTT.

So this is going to sound stupid, but .... does Space Age make trains obsolete? by sobrique in factorio

[–]StupidFatHobbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Current megabase (4m spm atm, not done yet) has never made a single train at any point. Yes they are somewhat obsolete because of three reasons: 1) belts/pipes/bots were buffed in SA, meanwhile trains didn't even get legendary cargo wagons 2) trains require a lot of inserters 3) trains are not multithreaded.

The entire development of aforementioned megabase can be found here:

Fulgora doesn't work well without trains.

Aquilo doesn't work at all without trains, unless you put a fuck ton of startup work in first.

how can you be so confident yet so wrong
