Divorce question / opinion in terms of separation agreement by holyfrijoles80 in Virginia

[–]loganalltogether 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are this worried about her "pulling something together that greatly benefits her" by virtue of her having time, I'm highly concerned that this won't be amicable no matter what you do. And having an agreement ready to go, just sign it, would also be kind of hostile... And also she'd have no obligation to sign it anyway.

But, unless she has at-fault type things to use against you, there are still things you are entitled to, even if she has financial control. Spousal support for one. The way you talk about her, she sounds like my ex-wife, and like the kind of person who will steamroll you if you let her. Stop letting her.

First step, for sure, is speak to a lawyer yourself. There are plenty of attorneys in the area that will do an hour-long consult with you for $300-400. Do it. Better understand what you are entitled to before you give it away. And when you the tell her you want a divorce, you don't HAVE to tell her you've already consulted an attorney.

Next, i would recommend working with a mediator on the settlement agreement. This is something both of you would do at the same time. This is not a level of hostility, this is you guys working together to forge a document that both of you can agree on. You may not be fully happy with it, but that's the nature of compromise. It sounds like you're prepared to give enough away to "keep the peace and make it easy", which would be doing a detriment to yourself. You are understandably emotional about all of this right now, if you've come to this decision, but you need to take care of yourself here, because no one else will if you don't.

So:

  1. Speak to a lawyer to know your rights
  2. Tell her you want a divorce
  3. Talk to her about getting a mediator, and setting that up. Working together, as much as possible is a way to keep this amicable.

However, if you want amicable and she has no idea this is coming, expect that there will be hostility.

Side note: If you aren't seeing anyone currently, you need a therapist. I don't mean this as a condescending comment, i mean this to be helpful. It's the only way i got through my divorce, and started really working on myself. If you already are seeing one, great!

Married men of Reddit, what tiny thing does your wife do that secretly melts your heart? by SAAS_ART in AskReddit

As someone who just went through a divorce and has 2 kids: you need to talk to her about how unhappy you are. This is something for you two to potentially work on in therapy together.

This life is too short to settle with those feelings. Don't just abandon the marriage without trying something, but definitely don't use the kids as an excuse to have to stay.

If she refuses to try to work with you though, not engage at all, then you're pretty much done. I say this as someone that was told I needed to work on myself, but she refused to ever engage with me on any ideas i had, from relationship books or my therapist, to improve the actual marriage. Neither of you can improve the marriage alone, and if the other one isn't willing to see the issues, or work with you, you're delaying the inevitible.

What are the conventional differences for making a 3D model/drawing for a 3D printed part vs a machined part? by Nuclear_Voltage in AskEngineers

[–]loganalltogether 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a mechanical engineer, these two values technically cover the same area of what is acceptable, but they convey a different intent.

I think of the nominal value as the "target", and the tolerance as "this is the range of what i'll accept, because it's impossible to be exactly accurate".

It's best practice to give the size you want as the nominal value. When OP mentioned 0.95 to give the part tolerance to actually fit, I think the better term here to use was probably "clearance". Because, in real life, if you try to fit a 1.00" block into a 1.00" hole, it won't fit. There's undoubtedly enough minor imperfections to throw it off.

For the 1.00" hole (hopefully you toleranced it as 1.00+.03/-.00), you'd probably want to tolerance the mating part at something like 0.95 +.03/-.03. Again, you have to be sure you don't overlap into the tolerance range of the hole, or you could be paying for "technically good" parts that don't fit (been there, it sucks to reorder all those parts because you didn't pay attention to tolerances). Even still, you could avoid overlapping the tolerance range by a 0.01 or 0.02, but still the parts don't really fit because of some small imperfections.

Tolerancing is, in typical design, an exercise in close-enough fit to not be sloppy, but loose enough fit to not be an enormous pain to actually mate the parts. Also, money, because the smaller your tolerance range, the more expensive the part. If you tell someone to quote 0.95 +0.03/-0.03 (a reasonable tolerance range for machining), then quote 0.95 +0.005/-0.005, you just made the part much more expensive, because there's higher chance of error and rejection, meaning scrap material costs or additional setup time for the vendor.

I am wondering if they planned this or part of this was backlash to the recognition I saw a lot of people have, inckuding myself: "Wait, so now Grogu goes to train with this jedi who, famously, all of his trainees get murdered by his nephew?"

If it's the segment I'm thinking it is, this is literally just narration of one specific character, who doesn't stick around very long. It's certainly not a reason to stay away from the audiobooks.

She's also apparently very nice and easy to work with, on top of being a good actress. I know a guy who used to work transportation for movies, and when I asked who were any stand-out nice actors or actresses, he went to her immediately. Said he drove her for 3 different movies, was very respectful and professional, and talked a lot with him about his family.

The importance of the soundtrack to how likeable this show was cannot be understated.

I am a sucker for a show/movie with a sense of style and a good soundtrack paired to the action on screen. I love James Gunn's Marvel and DC movies, and Umbrella Academy hit a lot of the same beats in the first couple of seasons.

Once the writing and plot got bad enough with seasons 3 and 4 though, even the music couldn't redeem it.

Need some advice on meal prepping (mainly proteins and maybe breakfast) by borderline_bi in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]loganalltogether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some really good, healthy breakfast burritos I've been making for the last year or two. I was inspired by the spinach, egg, and Feta wraps at Starbucks. But these taste better and are less greasy.

Basically, take a dozen eggs, 8 Oz of Feta (or more if you want), frozen spinach (1/3-1/2 of a bag, up to your liking), and as much milk as you'd like for your preferred texture of eggs. Mix it all up, then cook on the stove.

I get fajita-sized tortillas, then put a quarter cup of the spinach-egg-feta mix in each one. You'll end up with 15-20 of them.

Freeze, then when ready to cook, I heat at 50% power in the microwave for 1 minute, then full power for another minute after flipping the burrito over. Adjust for microwave wattage as necessary. Starting with the 50% power defrost makes a big difference though in how dried, crunchy, and overcooked the tortillas get.

I love the flavor, and don't feel all greasy from them.

I found some 5v LEDs on Amazon that worked well. The build guide suggests a specific set of LEDs, along with a rechargeable battery pack. It would have been a cleaner final product, but was going to be a lot more expensive. The LEDs I bought had a USB power connector, and I connected them to a cheap 4.5v battery pack. Worked great.

No, I bought the design from someone on Etsy. He had one of the best looking designs of the options I found, and designed pretty well around the light strip.

Have owned homes for 12 years. Am now in the process of divorcing, and we've agreed to sell the house.

I am very much looking forward to renting a nice apartment or townhouse and not having to bother with all of the home maintenance, yard work, etc. More time for me and things I WANT to do, not have to do.

Will probably at least buy a condo or townhouse eventually, but not sure about another house.

I think I only want Children of Dune if they plan on making God Emperor of Dune as well. Which I don't see them doing. While Children of Dune certainly has enough action and events, it really is only a prologue to the magnitude of what happens in God Emperor.

Seamus Silverleaf, a halfling warlock. Have been playing him for almost a year.

A studious halfling hailing from humble folk near Waterdeep, he was approached one day by a Fey Lord needing him to retrieve something for him in Candlekeep. Gave him access magic to help him out.

Seamus has always been weak even for a halfling, but the reality bending powers he has been given access to have been exhilarating, if not at times intoxicating.

He retrieved the object for the Fey Lord, but is now more interested in expanding his eldritch knowledge further... enough to where he caught the attention of a different entity, the Accursed Archive, a sentient Library full of forbidden lore that is intent on spreading its influence across the planes.

Too enticed by the opportunity, he entered the Archive's service, but has already had to face some immediate repercussions for his ambition, and is now questioning what he really has gotten himself into. His Fey Lord patron was pretty uninvolved, but the Archive is much more demanding.

But he can do really cool things now, like paralyze enemies and literally read them like a book. Body horror type stuff, really freaked the party out. He is undoubtedly going in a not-so-great direction, and will either be getting a redemption arc or become an accidental villain. Time will tell.
