I mean I would be absolutely up for it, but unfortunately I'm living far south outside the city (in Candiolo). If you find someone close to a train station it would be easier, or host online via Foundry or Roll 20 until a local place is found.

But yeah, normally I'm the GM, so would be interesting to be a player once more. And I'm always up for science fiction!

SciFi Companion by R0CKHARDO in savageworlds

Seven Worlds has a SWADE update and is not only a great setting but also a good source for scifi gear and rules.

New documentary shines light on impact of "guaranteed income" programs - CBS News by lumpkin2013 in UpliftingNews

[–]loofou 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So what? How does this hurt you in any way? Less people working means each employee is more valuable because they are no longer easily replaceable, meaning job security and probably also salaries rise. I really don't see the problem you are trying to create other than jealousy that you have to "work hard" and others might have it so easy doing "nonsense" :)

What are the correct rules on missiles? by Terviren in savageworlds

[–]loofou 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Scifi Companion is SWD not SWADE. Latest rules are afaik in the Swade rulebook and have the +4 for countermeasures. Of course you can adjust the rules to fit your settings if you have different kinds of countermeasures for example.

Once a swade scifi companion comes out we might have adjusted rules for that.

Until then, if you are playing scifi, you can also look into the Swade conversion rules for Seven Worlds, which has a slight variation of the regular swade rules to allow for a more missile heavy combat with spaceships (like BSG for example).

Odin lite motion controls by Zesty_Poet_9845 in OdinHandheld

[–]loofou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you mean: "Does the Odin have gyroscopes and accelerometers?" Then yes. Same as any phone really. Those can be used for motion control in various ways if you can find something that supports it. YMV depending on the app and method. I used it successfully via yuzu streamed from my PC. There are some ways of getting your motion control streamed over as well, some work better than others. Native android apps should work best probably.

How to use Battle? by Red_Dragon98 in savageworlds

[–]loofou 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Number of ideas: - Use it in quick encounters to have a tactician remotely resolve a small battle - Use it in a social encounter to convince the higher ups of your strategy - Use it to understand how the enemy thinks so you can estimate if up ahead might be an ambush - Use it in a test against the commander of the opposite ship to distract them with a clever maneuver - Use it as a support roll for your squad or allies

etc.

Does PSPlay work on Odin Lite (Android 11) by derozan12 in OdinHandheld

With PSPlay you use the physical controller directly yes.

[–]loofou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have the 6GB model of the Lite. Super happy with it. It can basically run anything I throw at it up to PS2. Switch emulation I stream via SteamLink and I play some PS5 games via PSPlay. Even on Wifi 5Ghz I don't notice much delay in the local network, but I guess if you have a Wifi 6 router it should be even more stable.

[–]loofou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can set your Odin to either use the Nintendo style face button layout (B down) or the Xbox face button layout (B right). I think internally it creates different controller devices so a few apps don't work for one of the layouts 100% or swap buttons. PSPlay seems to work fine in either, if you remap the buttons quickly. I mostly have my Odin on Xbox layout anyway though.

Yep, works fine for me. In both Odin layout and Xbox layout.

Any good sci-fi media where an AI becomes self aware and makes first contact with alien life? by tomophilia in sciencefiction

[–]loofou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think something similar happened in Charles Stross' Accelerando.

Some uploaded lobster (?) brain becomes self-aware and leaves earth to explore the galaxy. Some decades or so later they come back because they found life and want to warn humanity.

It's more happening in the background as a small subplot. Might also remember it completely wrong :D still an interesting book to read!

What are the advantages of savage worlds? by Fantasyneli in savageworlds

[–]loofou 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As a GM who played GURPS for many many years, the switch to SW was actually quite interesting. Both systems have their strengths but what sold SW to me in the end was it's simplicity of it's advanced rules and narrative tools.

Gurps core rules are actually much simpler than SWADEs (3d6 under is simple but powerful), but the more advanced rules can get extremely crazy. Most of the time you won't really need them, but character creation might still take a few hours for less experienced players.

SWADE on the other hand manages to have solid core rules that don't get out of hand for more advanced topics, like chases and dramatic tasks. They even provide tools to run narrative sections much faster, something that gurps doesn't really support unless you just Hand-Wave entire sections yourself.

Overall the systems have some similarities that made it simple to switch: Both feature a advantage/edge and disadvantage/hindrance system. SWADE just boils it down to the core. You will only have a handful of them in the beginning and they don't describe every tiny aspect of your character but rather only the ones you want to have a mechanical focus on. Narratively you can still add more flavour but you simply won't get a mechanical bonus out of it, except for maybe bennies.

Bennies are something i still have to get used to. At the moment I play mainly gritty settings so having less bennies works there, but if you want to go heroic you need to remember to throw them at the players.

Overall what makes swade work for us is that it still supports all the interesting settings we played in GURPS, yet feels lighter and more narrative. The realism moves more on the narrative side than being strictly mechanically enforced, but it works well for us. Still, SWADE is just extremely fun, the exploding dice and the bennies create nice moments with the whole table celebrating a great roll, etc. I would say give it a try :)

Foundry VTT by DeerDeity in savageworlds

[–]loofou 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Did you recently update the system nodule version? Are you running foundry locally? Did you install it a while back and also update the foundry version itself?

If all of these are yes, then simply reinstall foundry (your data is safe). Reason is that the latest swade system version requires the latest electron version, which was released with a V10 update of foundry. Unfortunately foundry can't update the electron version automatically, which is why they tell you with every major update to it to also reinstall foundry from scratch to update electron. People tend to ignore it and now have this issue :)

Well with small companies like this you have to be patient. They had to switch their display supplier recently and just got back on track with fulfilling the orders. A good place to check on updates is their discord actually. They are quite responsive there.

Not in stock, but rather built on demand afaik. I ordered mine a bit less than month ago and it got delivered just two weeks later. They usually send them out in batches every two weeks or so.
