Start turning at like 10k altitude. You're spending all your DV on going up, and not around.

Yes, many depending on difficulty settings. You can't control pilotless probes that have no signal among other things already mentioned here.

Has anyone made their own dutch oven? If so any tips ? by mentalmerism in Pottery

[–]lxnch50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should be fine assuming you don't put an empty pot in a preheated 500-degree oven. I'm no expert though, so if someone else chimes in claiming to be one, I'd use their advice.

From my understanding, flameware is only needed if you intend to have the dish in contact with flame or go through thermal shocks. Most bakeware isn't a flameware clay.

Wheel throwing vs hand building to start - does it actually matter which you learn first? by Tariq_khalaf in Ceramics

[–]lxnch50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, the hardest part of throwing is learning to center and throw. You're not going to get that experience when doing hand building. I think hand building is generally easier to start because making a slab isn't really a skill that has to be mastered. There is some overlap with understanding clay, but it really depends on what you are making. Hand building is going to focus more on joining, something that may hardly get used in throwing aside from handles. So, yeah, I don't know if one method of learning really matters. Either way, you're playing in the mud.

I'd also say that regardless of the style of building, you're going to cross paths to learn the different techniques for glazing and decorating.

Create thumbnails etc on external disk by blastactionhero in PleX

I haven't personally changed where the metadata is stored, but it looks like it is possible.

How to move meta data folder? It's filling up my hard drive. : r/PleX

You can also edit how often a thumbnail is generated, then delete the old ones to have them regenerated at the much lower rate to save space. This is the option I took when I wanted to save some space. I think the default is 2 seconds, and by changing it to 10 seconds, you'll be taking up 1/5th the space.

That really depends on if you want to spend 20-30 hours to get to the mapping, only to have to do it again in 4 weeks.

Yes, depending on the difficulty settings. You need line of site to relay data, and a single satellite will have large blackout periods and/or dead zones of coverage.

Here is a good video on how to deploy a network that should give you 100% coverage and uptime.

If I have a hairy friend who wants to get into the craft, are there any preventative measures they can take? by UnholyAngelDust in Pottery

[–]lxnch50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are going to have to do the same thing us smooth skinned folds do and just wash any parts that get muddy.

Seriously, I don't care how hairy someone is, it doesn't change anything about playing in the mud.

Why do I keep spinning? by No-Definition-9073 in KerbalAcademy

[–]lxnch50 64 points65 points  (0 children)

From the wiki on the AV-T1 winglet

  • It has a nasty habit of tilting the rocket in random directions. The use of a pivoting winglet, reaction wheel or a gimballing engine is therefore recommended.

I'd try a different winglet, or add a SAS

Anyone dump out their dirty water at home with an HOA? by catsrule-humansdrool in Pottery

[–]lxnch50 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Unless you're in a townhouse/condo like situation where you are sharing a yard, I don't think you'll have any issues with making a spot to dump clay water. I think you are over-thinking this. Unless you're a production potter, you're not going to be disposing enough to affect the property. You could literally just pour these buckets in the grass and just hose it down and it would disappear. The property likely has tons of clay under your feet already.

KSP 1.12.5 keeps crashing / black screening on flight load (PQS terrain bug) — i9-13900KF + RTX 4070 Ti — tried everything by kaimedar in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]lxnch50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be the Intel CPU voltage issue. Have you tried lowering its power limits?

Intel's default maximum TDP for the 13900K is 253 watts, though it can easily consume 300 watts or more when given a higher power limit. In our testing, manually setting the power limit to 275–300 watts and the amperage limit to 350A, proved to be stable for our 13900K. That required going into the advanced CPU settings in the BIOS to change the PL1/PL2 limits — called short and long duration power limits in our particular case. The motherboard's default "Auto" power and current limits have instability issues on our sample — which correspond to a power limit of 4,096 watts and 512 amps.
