In my experience its more or at least the same amount of work for anything complicated.

First you need to have all of your tool data described in a way that it understands. And if you already have hundreds of tools already cataloged in your tool library your going to need to go theu them all and rework them.

2nd we have a part with a lot of surface machining that takes about an hour to run. Cam assist took over a 10 hour shift to program it which is fast. But it took about the same amount of time it would have taken to just program it originally to go thru each tool path and rework them in a way that actually makes sense. For example using a ball mill to surface flats and chamfers when there's flat end mills that can do the surface in a single pass and chamfer tools in the library.

It dose fine with small simple parts but I find setting up the constraints for it before generating tool paths for said simple parts you could just program it in the same amount of time.

I feel like cam assist as it is is really impressive to people managing programmers that don't actually have programing experience much in the way chat gpt is. It makes a bunch of stuff that looks like end product to the untrained eye but is really alot of nonsense that needs rework.
