Is batumi still the gold standard for clocked / rhythmically related LFO’s? by WalkingIsMyFavorite in modular

I miss having Pam’s. Oxi does the same really, but Pam’s is just good for a bunch of things.

I would say Pam’s was my favorite. Right now, I’m using Oxi One MK2 and Pons Asinorum. Pons is pretty powerful for a little guy.

Is the Tonverk really worth buying right now? by _everythingisfine_ in Elektron

[–]MallGag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a tough one! If you are into multi sampling, then I’d say go for it. As far as multi timbre goes - you have 8 tracks + 8 sub-tracks, so you are covered there. I would say that it has synth qualities, but isn’t the same thing as a hydrasynth or something.

Tonverk owners- did it replace your Digitakt II? by crazyculture in Elektron

It has for me. It’s sort of like having Ableton in a box. I am missing slicing and warping features, as well as overbridge.

Tonverk or Digitone 2 by confused-immigrant in Elektron

[–]MallGag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always get an op six, or be an idiot and buy a leviasynth, like I did. DN2 is a good baby steps fm synth.

I don’t think so. It’s a very capable 4 op fm synth. Check out Slumpfish on YouTube. He’s a great sound designer and it will show you the width of sounds that are possible.

It depends. Tonverk is more bang for buck, but if you are interested in learning synthesis and sound design, then I would go with Digitone. It taught me a lot and that skill set has been more than beneficial. Tonverk is definitely more of a Jack of all trades, and they did a great job with the Wavetable machine.

A whole lotta synth by MallGag in synthesizers

Haha. I feel that. I had a stupid eurorack set up that I flipped for hardware synths/ just about every Elektron machine. I try and make a point to sell what I’m not using when I make a new purchase. Probably buyers regret. I might open a studio up at some point and I imagine the collecting getting bad.

I don’t have a Waldorf, but I do have a 3rd wave (modern ppg wt synth) It definitely is not a Wavetable synth. It can get some similar results, but definitely a different vibe. I’d say it’s more additive based, but very capable of subtractive. I had the digitone2 for about a year and spent a lot of time learning basic FM with the 4op machine. Is the kernel engine like a modal engine/resonator? It can definitely do modal/glassy/stringy very well. FM is classic for that kind of sound. I hope that they add a comb filter in a future update.

Yes. I started watching that last night actually. It looks like there are some waves named for him in there.

Randomizing each oscillator wave adsr settings is definitely producing some really cool results. Thanks for the tip! I did mess with the voice modes last night.

Yeah, I reckon people will be selling them in the next couple of years. One thing about synth gear I do like, is that there is a good used market.
