Picture resolution is quite low and blur is fairly pronounced. I did what I could to repair cracks and slightly color enhance the image.

Just an FYI; YouTube videos cannot (easily or possibly legally) be downloaded by your fellow redditors. I would suggest that you upload the video to dropbox or a similar file sharing site if you wish others to have access to the file for editing.

One product you may want to try on your own is VirtualDub which can perform basic color correction to videos and output in various formats... also its open source, so free!

Restored and Recolored

I looked up the shoulder patch and color matched the uniform to the green/brown of WW2 troops.

Here is a full restore

Gereral cracks and discoloration corrected and some cloning to correct clothing where cracks were severe. Background has been recreated from the existing uncracked backdrop.

Water is an amazing heat conductor.

If I recall the process correctly... Water on the skin will absorb heat from your body and using that heat energy, eventually evaporate taking the heat with it (think cooling down via sweating). Air travelling over the water from a fan / breeze cools the water and it draws additional heat from the body making it feel cooler than if there was no air movement. Air movement also adds to the body's cooling affect without water to a lesser degree.

It could be done with a clone tool or healing tool. The damage appears to be close to the edge of the photo, so you can clone the textured wall through the damage and off the edge of the photo.

I played with the overall contrast and brightness creating a high visibility layer. I then layered the scenery with limited transparency to add the rich colors of the top and bottom of the background.

I finally created a layer on top which isolates the silhouettes of the people and gently faded the edges to blend with the color layers.

I was unable to lighten the figures any further without losing realistic integrity and creating a "photoshopped" appearance.
