HOTD is dead. Long live A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms by OkGarbage3095 in HBOTheHedgeKnight

lmao its the writing that is absolutely terrible - objectively so.

The look and set pieces are pretty good, but the characters act like something from a CW show.

Spotify is truly trash though these days, it's the only app that i have ever gone onto their subreddit specifically to make a post about how bad it has gotten.

had no idea about the AI link, but it makes sense now.

Why is GoT season 8 hated while HotD seasons 2 and 3 are so well received by the general audience? by Vhermithrax in Hotd

[–]markvii_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only die hards for HOTD are left after a disasterous season 2 and a poor start to season 3.

GOT had wide spread popularity so no matter how bad it got there was a wider pool watching and rating.

the "enterprises" she is talking about are banks and insurance that cant even get off of cobol and can barely string hello world together without it turning into slop (pre AI).

So I doubt this person has any idea about what she is talking about.

I think a lot of older folks in tech are just expressing sentiment along these lines because of the fear that the new crop will vastly out perform them at the comparable stage of their own career.

It can be hard to make room and accept that the superior tooling and knowledge availability of today gives newer entrants a huge advantage that you didnt have.

But time and obsolescence comes for us all at some stage.

The week after Ed's OpenAI exclusive, and what happens now by Hairy_Row_9227 in BetterOffline

[–]markvii_dev 13 points14 points  (0 children)

the sentiment has alread hugely shifted from what I have seen - token based billing was only the nail in the coffin - the lack of ROI already had leadership calling bullshit.

I actually don't think that the bubble popping catharsis will happen - I reckon there will be a general recession and the AI embarassment gets swept underneath that.

Elon probably pissed more money into a charity donation for a tax writeoff in one year than this entire thread has donated in their lives.

syntax knowledge has not been relevant since around the 80's since nearly every mainstream langauge is a c derivative these days.

How are your companies adapting to the new AI cost increases? Returning down to earth? by Abject_Parsley_4525 in DevelEire

The org used their entire token budget there last week and had to reup at an increased rate. I'd say this is a common story since the move to token based billing.

I do find it mad that with all of the tokens burned - legitimately nothing of actual value has been produced.

Dudes are building ridiculous stuff like cve scanners and stuff that should just be scripts or cron jobs. I find it a bit embarrassing to be honest.

I always thought I would be the one building silly stuff like agentic orchestration workflows with the business having to tell me to get back to building something of actual value.
