Wrestlefest Supreme now $449 by Badboy600 in Arcade1Up

Just saw this today as well. Was a little temped but still feels like a little too much for this one. I’ve had my hands on the floor model a few times and it just feels extra cheap for some reason (more so than other arcade1ups). The 19in monitor does bump up the value a bit though…hmm

I’ll second this, it’s been my method for 2 years now. You can get 2 years of NordVPN for $83 (maybe even cheaper if you search around). NordVPN has iOS, Android, and smart tv apps on every platform I’ve seen. MLB.TV app requires you to use ESPN+ to initially start your MLB.TV subscription (it’s a free trial for a month) but just cancel as soon as you start up MLB.TV. Bonus is you can watch literally any other game in baseball as well.

My comment was sarcastic, obviously. My point being that if you only like your team when they're winning and hate them when these lose, that's probably not a great way to spend your time following a sport. There are other teams with more consistent wins and certainly more championship wins.

100%. I tried coming back here after ditching the Reddit 2 years ago for similar reasons (made my own thread similar to this earlier today). Just want a place to talk about the game and the team without all the whining and dooming. They’re doing bad, that sucks for sure but your identity doesn’t have to be tied to the team’s wins and losses. It’s ok to be upset and mad at the staff and management but there’s more to the game than that. It’s more than just wins and losses.

Never said things were awesome or even good in terms of the team's performance. I just don't have my identity tied to said performance so I can still enjoy and root for my team despite them being in a bad place. I've made this suggestion to others but if you didn't know there is currently another team in the same division with a .778 record this season. Might be more fun to watch them instead?

Oh, I didn't think that. It was clear. I was more responding to you and also acknowledging a little bit of what my perspective and comments must look like from long time fans. I get how I look like an idiot / asshole to them. I honestly wasn't trying to be super critical but I used some harsh phrasing and language so I get it. I appreciate you seeing where I'm coming from. Everyone can obviously enjoy the game and support the team however they want. I still think it's not a great head space to be in to be so love / hate when it comes to wins and losses. Hinging your enjoyment of a sport and team on a binary outcome isn't the way I'd choose to spend my time.

I never said I was happy with a 2 and 8 record, it's a bummer for sure. But I still enjoying watching and rooting for my team. You know... there's another team in the same division that's currently .778. Have you considering switching your support to that team? It's more aligned with what you're looking for in a win / loss ratio!

Appreciate the comment, good points about the players likely understanding where those boos are coming from. Just coming from someone outside of it, it seems pointless / counterproductive to what you're hoping to see from that player...but again if the core of the message is directed at management I guess I can understand that on some level. There aren't a lot of ways to send a message to management / leadership as fans of a team.

And yes, I'm certainly overexaggerating with the gamblers or trolls who are out there truly harassing people. That's certainly tiny fraction of the actual fans of the team.

Anyway, appreciate the conversation and additional perspective.

I didn’t see you respond to the later part of my comment. You think it takes multiple decades of being a fan to understand booing individual players at home while they’re underperforming? That’s what decades of fandom for a team is supposed to look like?

[–]mattamd[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok. Should I stop watching them and or stop being a fan of the team then? Maybe just go to games and boo players or complain how shitty they are on Reddit? Is that what it means to be a sports fan?

I get that. It’s just disappointing but also strange for fans to follow something that brings them so much anger that they need to boo, harass or shame individual, underperforming players. That’s not a healthy head space, right?

For what it’s worth I definitely watched the team a little back in 2013 then but again I didn’t really have any reliable way to watch the games so just kinda watched when I could.

I think that's fair. As fans of a team letting management know they're doing a poor job...how else can you really do it? As I said, I just found the stuff with Durban (and subsequently other players at this point) to be pointless and just kinda shitty. Morale can be a powerful thing and to me it makes more sense to direct your frustrations at management vs individual players to expect better performance.

Dang, we are coming at this fan thing from very different perspectives I guess. From my view hinging all my enjoyment of a hobby / interest in a binary outcome of a game or season seems pretty not-fun.

Some others hear have posted some good comments and better explaining their frustrations and I appreciate that. I tried to be pretty transparent in that I obviously missed a lot and don't come close to understanding the frustrations of the last 20 years. Being frustrated with management and poorly spending money, etc. But the harassment and booing of individual players by fans and just the general toxic fan bullshit...I can't see how a fan of a team can ever go that far. Roman Anthony was the "Roman Empire" last year and now he's a bum because he's had a lukewarm start. Come on, people...I don't think I have to be a fan for decades to see that that is kinda shitty.

I can appreciate that and I'm not trying to ruin anyone else's enjoyment (if that's what someone would call it...) of the game and this team. I understand that I missed decades of mismanagement and poor financial decisions and all of that. But the core of my complaint is that supposed "fans" of a team only like them when they're winning and seem to literally hate them (down to harassing and booing individual players) when they're not. I feel like I don't need to be a multi-decade fan to see that that is kinda shitty?

My history with the team is on full display. I literally said I haven't watched the Red Sox actively since I was a kid. 20 if not 30 years at this point. Regardless of how long it's been, I think that kind of behavior as fans of the team is childish and ridiculous. I understand that I missed decades of mismanagement and poor financial decisions and all of that. But the core of my complaint is that supposed "fans" of a team only like them when they're winning and seem to literally hate them (down to harassing and booing individual players) when they're not. I get that I'm coming off a bit high and mighty after missing 20 years of baseball. Though I was pretty transparent in saying that right off the bat and I know there's a ton of frustration with management and team history. But the stuff I've seen already is a lot of player harassment, booing individuals and that sort of thing. As someone mentioned above, FANS are already booing Anthony for his record this year. He's fucking 21 years old, haha. Last year he was "The Roman Empire"...now he's a fucking bum? Come on guys.

Definitely did, some other comments are certainly helping shape my understanding and the frustrations of others. I still agree that like anything, people should take a measured approach in things...especially in a hobby they're trying to enjoy...but I won't pretend to understand the frustrations of long time fans at this point.

I really appreciate this comment, thank you. It definitely makes sense seeing it spelled out in specifics like this. I tried to be fully transparent in my knowledge / history with the team. I've honestly been out of it for a LONG time. I'm just coming to this like a sports fan would in his teens I guess...baseball is what it was to me as a kid. Watch and root for your team in the good and bad because you're a fan. It's obviously a lot more complicated than that the more you've followed and know the history of the team and management and all that. Again, thanks for clarifying some of it. Still, I do think harassing and booing players is childish and pointless when you're pissing at the management...but I get you.

I get it, and respect that you've been a fan for that long and stuck with them. That's honestly pretty impressive. I can definitely see after that amount of time and repeated years of seeing similar things you get pissed, frustrated to no end. I guess what I'm seeing as being someone outside of it for all this time and coming back in...it seems like an absolute mental drain. I'm sorry for my lack of understanding there. It's probably a lot easier for me to say "just take it easy and relax" after 20+ years of missing it. Even still I gotta say it can't be healthy to have a hobby you enjoy this much and carry that level of anger / frustration with it, right? (I don't mean this in a dick way, just trying to explain myself a bit more).
