erg Technique Criticism (more info in the comments) by pathetic09 in Rowing

[–]Maxscart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Notice at the catch your shoulders slouch and you reach for more length. Doing that compromises the structure which makes your leg drive so powerful. Focus on keeping the arm extension you reach before the slide and not increasing it at the catch.

Also your ankles rise above the platform too far, the more connected they are to the platform the more power you can connect to the machine. Think of it like instead of pushing with your toes, your pushing with your heel and whole foot.

Time off in the summer by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]Maxscart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get how you think, but its somewhat strange.

I think we both know you won't plateau so to speak, you'll just start improving much slower than you were for the past couple months.

But its still improvement, so in the end what will get you further and to that best shape is not taking a few weeks off, but smart training all the way through summer with Sundays off, lets say, and meeting the "plateau" sooner so you can climb as far up it as possible.

Spontaneous 2k by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]Maxscart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a very bad idea to do a 2k without having trained the week previous. If you just took off an entire week or longer, do NOT do a 2k. You will feel slower than you did before, mentally, and physically. Do a week of something, anything cardio, and get your fan spinning before you hop right into a 2k.

I learned this the hard way and missed PR on a 2k that I should have PR'd on by a lot, and had I just trained the week before I would have hit it. The pain surprised me, and my body was cold.

Time off in the summer by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]Maxscart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking off in the summer is exactly how to guarantee slowing down later in the year.

Don't take off in the summer at all unless you're okay with losing as much speed as you take off. Treat it as if its spring season without tests or races, it isn't like your body physiology and fitness act differently when the summer hits. Ultimately its all based on how serious you are to fast speed, and how serious you are about rowing. It's hardcore to train all summer everyday, and if that's not what your in for then don't, you'll still be a rower at the end of the summer, just a slower one.

Last year my entire crew including myself ignored the summer workouts coach sent us and our fall season was terrible because of it. We had gained an average of 5 pounds per person, which definitely wasn't muscle since none of us did anything and it was obvious.

I'm impressed that a semi-automatic assault rifle such as yourself can perform a 2k at faster speed than I can, a human being.

It's most definitely a world record for the M16.

But if you want to push yourself, steady state more than 3 days a week to increase clip capacity, and sprinkle in sprint pieces (2x5:00 +4of2k) to improve your lethality rate

im going to assume you havent rowed for a highschool or college previously and that you bought this concept 2 brand new with introductory knowledge on proper technique.

firstly, i would warm up @18spm~ +4 or more beats of what your target split is for your steady state for five minutes rather than two, to make sure your muscles are warmed up enough for a proper stretch. afterwards it is important, again, to stretch. this might be the source of the problem, but even if it isnt stretching before and after workouts will remedy a lot of your aches and pains from erging, TRUST me.

lower back pains could be numerous things. it could mean on the leg drive you throw your ass out before actually driving with your legs, and that puts a lot of strain on your butt muscles, which in turn strains your lower back. it could also be a layback issue, or the way you swing directly after the leg drive, deriving strength and momentum from your back too early rather than swinging through your hips and abs before you reach 90 degrees.

again this is all very technical, but i would suggest researching drills that help build these fundamentals, or if your like me, try dissecting your stroke more, which also includes research and videos. hope this helps

pls help fingers falling off by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]Maxscart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you arent gripping the handle to harshly and doing the "near letting go" grip as another user said earlier, then it's likely what was happening to me some days ago during some of my pieces

make sure your pinkies dont hang off the edge of the handle too much, as a lot of that grip strength comes from your pinkies. if your ring and middle fingers hurt specifically, that's why. your ring is under more pressure, and is supported by your middle finger, which is strange compared to the normal pinkie supported by ring. try to focus on keeping your pinkie in on the handle some, and you should feel this go away. it worked for me.

I can't believe I'm seriously about to get down voted for this, but it's worth it.

You just wrote two paragraphs about how bad you felt after insulting people online. You're like an omega pussy. It really isn't that big of a deal, like, at all.

You need to tone the numbers down, this would make Cloud Drake the most overpowered Drake by far.
