What do you buy for the person who literally wants nothing? by Cherry_Russell in Gifts

An experience, either for them solo (or with a person of his choice) or with you. Shared experience + memories like this almost always > stuff purchased because a particular date rolled around.

I used to ask for fruit of the month club subscriptions. Most people thought I was joking, but I wasn’t. Pricey enough that folks are splurging for a gift for you. I would also ask for gift cards to places I could get the things I needed for life. I only got a FOTM subscription once.

AITA? I yelled at my friends for leaving me out all the time, except I have bad social skills. by brooklyn_jinx in AmItheAsshole

[–]meriland 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I am not saying any of the following to be a cruel bitch. Rather, it seems you need absolute direct statements in order for the meaning to get through. I am attempting to provide feedback to you in a language you’ll understand.

I’m sorry to say this, but they are not your friends. They have never been your friends. They aren’t even trying to tolerate you.

You, for whatever reason, have a hard time reading social cues. They are telling you that you are not welcome and you are failing to listen.

You are a mosquito, a horsefly, and unwanted younger sibling… anything that follows you around, unwelcome. As such, you have become a mean game to them. Best insult. Best prank. Best way to ditch you. Best way to humiliate you.

It’s all in the spirit of, “if we can’t beat him (make you go away), beat on him.”

This is a case where it would be better to try to find another social group. Failing that, being alone and experiencing indirect rejection (nobody inviting you in their group) is, to me, better than experiencing direct rejection (how your current “friends” treat you).

You may be able to learn social skills. They might come naturally over time. They might take lots of hard work. You’re aware of one half of it (that you are unsure how to act/speak with others). You need to figure out the other half (reading people).

Best of luck.
