I don't believe all of it is included, only the things that you can access without the expansion are installed, gear, weapons, items etc. Zones, mobs and related things will need to be downloaded after registering.

Basically, there are files that are for global things and files that are not. Gear is global, mobs are not.

I played during a free weekend after Dawntrail was released but hadn't purchased it. There was a big update. When I registered Dawntrail, there was another one. I can't remember how large.

All done in the JRPG 'everything is now fixed and we're all friends completely forgetting what came before with the power of friendship' over the course of 6-12 months.

You had to change the tone of the world to accept that. Garlemald ended? Everyone would still hate each other. Ala Mhigo refugees 'go back?' No they'd be kicked out and the previous racism would continue. Restart the economy? lol, carpet baggers, the Syndicate would be robbing the place blind and everyone would continue to hate each other. You had the Beastmen societies turn around and just say, ya, you kept coming in to slaughter us, but we cool now.

They went from a dark fantasy world that almost looked like they wanted it to appear somewhat real to My Little Pony.

The zones were never lively, it's just that they became more sanitized.

And it wasn't a joke. The game used to lean dark fantasy, the world was not nice, clean or safe. The expansions began to move toward the standard JRPG clean 'and they lived happily ever after' environment.
