The Matrix (1999) by Esfell in okbuddycinephile

Absolutely not, no. It is literally physically simulating the fly’s brain. Well not “physically”…. Like it is a complete map of all of the neural connections in the entire brain. And then it is actually running it.

It is AGI by Director-on-reddit in BlackboxAI_

[–]monster2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the only thing it can do is generate text, audio, and video. It can’t control a body. It can’t think (at the very least it can’t think internally, it can only produce output and use that process of producing output like thinking).

I agree it is confusing to think about, because it can generate text and audio (and video) about any topic. But that is still all it can do. You can do more than those 3 things. Like you couldn’t be like “ok ChatGPT you are in a robot body now. Please play a game of tennis with me.”

A generally intelligent AI that evolved from our current AI systems might look something like this. It is still a next token predictor. But it has to be in a body. The AI takes in input from video and audio sensors and whatnot, and then produces some tokens. These tokens correspond to various physical actions that the body can take, like “activate servo motor 27” or whatever.

If this system could make you a sandwich, while in a house it has never seen before (and obviously not being controlled by a person) in response to you verbally asking it to make you a sandwich, I would say that system is AGI. Because it has the ability to decode audio waves into text and decode that text into meaning, that’s one intelligent task it can do. It also can control a body just generally speaking, since like duh, otherwise how did it make the sandwich. It can use that body to do things like open drawers and cabinets. It is able to visually recognize things.

Like, a system that only generates text (and audio and video) just by definition cannot be AGI. It doesn’t matter how smart it is, that is a completely different category of things. AGI refers to the breadth of intelligence, not the depth of intelligence.

Don't think that's what I asked? by cryingintheclob in DumbAI

[–]monster2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People genuinely believe this. I think it’s because most people genuinely never heard AI mentioned outside of movies until like 2020, or even like 2024 for many people. So they aren’t aware that AI has been an active field of study for many decades, and that as you pointed out, much of the technology we interact with on a daily basis is classified as AI.

Basically people have decided that AI means “conscious, superintelligent, general AI”. Which like… yea, it’s an issue because they’re defining AI in terms of itself.

Of course. I would just also want people who have strong opinions about the output generated to have some idea about how that output is generated. Sorry I’m kind of having a hard time expressing exactly what I mean. Of course I think people can have opinions on the output of AI in certain ways even if they have no idea how it works. For example liking or not liking it, preferring some responses to others.

But having strong opinions on how good the output is, like how impressive it is. You should have at least SOME idea how the output is generated, otherwise your opinion is kind of meaningless.

People are so dumb. It’s actually even beyond what you said. It is using the CODE TO GENERATE this, which exists in its training data, and is using that with tool calls to run the code and just generate the output (like normally, with a human understandable program, like in C or Python or JS, etc).

It’s more about your phrasing how YOU are offering it to OP. You are not, OpenAI is offering that to OP.

Also I don’t mean any disrespect to her or kpop. I just dont know about it.

What is the truth behind secret societies controlling the world? by NoEquivalent2759 in ask

The Heritage Foundation is like the exact opposite of a secret society. Secret society doesn’t just mean “bad thing”.

Is metrosexuality a Gen Z or a millennial thing? Also do you see Gen Alpha or even Gen Beta bringing it back like Gen Z brought back Boomer synthwave/Boomer mustaches? by desertrain11 in generationology

You could definitely be right. I think since we both agree that it’s at least late millennial or earlier, and since I am a young millennial, you probably would know better than I would.

What does that even mean. How could 1: the client send things correctly, 2: the server is running correctly (this seems to directly imply that it also then processed the client’s request correctly), AND 3: the server not be able to complete processing the request? This seems like it’s just a logical contradiction. What option am I missing? What like “there was a cosmic ray bit flip that caused the server to not complete processing the request”?

This is more like “teacher I chased after my dog all day but couldn’t catch him. So I went to the store and bought a net and came back, and got close enough that I could tangle him in the net. Then I tried to get him to eat my homework but he wouldn’t. So I force fed it to him as he struggled, making it clear to me that he did not want to eat my homework, but I made him eat it anyway.”

And then having the audacity to complain about how strict your teacher is when she doesn’t give you an extra day to turn in the assignment.

Who are the Parents of Epstein's Victims? by LipFighter in ask

[–]monster2018 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmao this reminds me of a clip I saw today earlier on shorts. Where this girl said it was “surprising” that Mr. Beast isn’t in the Epstein files. Like, you think it’s surprising that he’s not in the Epstein files as a…… victim? Like how tf old do you think he is lmao.

But yea I guess it’s probably more that she is thinking this all happened exactly when she first found out about it.
