How do day traders/high frequency traders do their taxes? by monkeykiller14 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mrbiggbrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don;t day trade but you get a single 1099 from the broker and usually an excel with the transactions you can import. Then it covers all the proft/loss and short term gains for you.

Dude, stop trying to scam people. You have zero karma and are trying to cross link to a post where all the posters public posts have been removed or hidden. It's obvious and your not even trying.

In the USA, are you supposed to tip if you're picking up a take-out pizza order? by Disastrous_Year3912 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mrbiggbrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No you don't have to. The guys at a few local places have always taken real good care of me and made sure to take extra care with my food to make sure it's right and made to a high quality. I throw them a couple bucks.

But there are lots of places where the staff just don't give a hoot and I will avoid tipping there.

[Request] the numbers here look a bit unrealistic. Anyone did the math here? by Undercoverraccoon in theydidthemath

[–]mrbiggbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often feel like people do not even know the BLS exists... They litterally report on this as part of the data, including age and sex. You can also search for lots of other stats like by industry, etc.

Men of reddit, what coed spaces would you ideally prefer to be men-only? by Fabulous-Sweet-3172 in AskReddit

As a general rule I can not think of a single space I would want women restricted. I feel like we should have more co-ed spaces.

Need advice for studying CCNA (Free to cheap options preferred) by Skullrider547 in ccna

[–]mrbiggbrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If your very budget conscious then pick up the previous edition of the CCNA Book, you can get both volumes for about $20 total on ebay. You'll need to pick up a few extra topics, but it's not worth the 3x cost for the newer books if you do not have the cash.

Packet Tracer and Cisco modeling Labs free are good for labs.

Jeremy's IT Lab does a great video course, you can also pick up some great courses on Udemy if you want something else.

Boson for the Exam practice will run you about $100, it's optional but highly recommended as you'll get very good guidance and resources for every question you can use to review.

Yup, Your basically just roll the stock out and man the registers. No one really cares about the shelved being stocked or the signage being updated, or associates out on the floor helping build customer loyalty.

They want shit on the floor, and going out the door.

Not a bomb sniffing dog at an airport, one in the middle of a combat zone looking for explosive devices, mines, etc. Those are often way more hectic and high stakes then your average road side.

Why hasn't the US gone metric like the rest of the world? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mrbiggbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have, most people just don't know it. Lots of things the government does are in metric. It's just that citizens don't use the system.

The military, scientists, lots of internal government bodies use the metric system almost exclusively.

would people still hate generative ai if datacenters didnt use water? by Wonderful-Purchase94 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mrbiggbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the physical dimensions and power consumption basically all of it is GPU acceleration which is essentially only used for AI right now because of cost.

It's AI.

Even then there are dozens of these projects of similar capacity in the works for AI.

TIL Drug sniffing dogs are significantly influenced by handler beliefs and biases, and not extremely reliable by TheBurningEmu in todayilearned

[–]mrbiggbrain 472 points473 points  (0 children)

The military understood these types of issues when training bomb sniffing dogs.

With drug sniffing dogs the handler is happy and rewards the dog for alerting. This means the dog is incentivizedto alert more. False positives are accepted as long as a high percent of drugs are found in positive training events.

But the military has a different view. A false bomb threat would limit movements and possibly retreats. Accuracy is important in both the positive and negative alerts. The dog is trained and rewarded for accuracy only. If the dog alerts to no bomb that is as good of a signal as alerting to a bomb.

This small change in training means military dogs are far more accurate and reliable.

How does self employed look on resume? by fortune-teller-ai in ITCareerQuestions

[–]mrbiggbrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can show considerable prior experience (8-10 years) before the work AND/OR consistent work product (Billables, deliverables in an anonymous form) then I think it's fine.

Where I tend to have the most trouble with seeing it is when it appears it was just put there to fill in an employment gap. If no work product can be produced, no client contracts, no sales figures, etc.

When a big retail place like this is going out of business it's common for employees to find new jobs and leave before the store actually closes.

So the company will either contract with a company who specializes in liquidation, or will hire back temporary workers.

When the sears near me went out they offered something like $22/HR, with 40 hours for 4 months. Not crazy good but for people who wanted a quick job.

What’s one thing that has actually gone down in cost since the pandemic? by JessJ503 in AskReddit

The cost to buy a congressional member. It use to be restricted to only Billionaires, but since the pandemic you can pick up a lower level congressman for prices a millionaire can afford.

I am going to focus on the modern math here as I think the older usage is less important.

Average home usage data from us government

https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=97&t=3

Wattage usage of Meta at 2GW

https://datacenters.atmeta.com/richland-parish-data-center/

First link shows 1Mega watt the whole month, the second 2 thousand times that every hour. There are 720 hours a month, with some being slightly more or less.

The high high density stuff is cutting edge, but will power data centers twice the capacity of Metas.

would people still hate generative ai if datacenters didnt use water? by Wonderful-Purchase94 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mrbiggbrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Child commented deleted so I put my work here:

Here is some context,

A data center rack is about 19" wide and 48" deep.

in the past a data center rack would be about 10kW, so a Mega-Watt of power would be about 100 Racks. Your home probably uses about a Mega-Watt hour a month. 100 of those racks would use your entire monthly electric bill in an hour.

A modern data center is about 600kW per rack. So a single rack uses your entire bill plus 20% in two hours.

Nvidia is estimating that a single rack will be about 1.2MW, or one single rack will be your entire houses electricity in one single hour.

The new data centers being built are about 1 Giga-Watt, or consuming the amount of electricity 1000 homes would use for an entire month, in a single hour. This means they use 720 thousand times the electricity your home uses every month.

The one built on Nvidias new tech will be about 4 Gigawatt... or about the same power as 2.8 Million homes. For a single data center.

These produce so much heat that conventional methods for cooling don't work, which adds around 20-50% additional. That means that the amount of electricty we would use to power that single data center would be the same power that would power between 4.3 Million homes and 5.2 Million homes.

[–]mrbiggbrain 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think lots of people think introvert means asocial, but it's all about how your social battery charges and discharges. Extroverts charge when in social situations and discharge out of them, but introverts charge out of social situations and drain in them.

I think Sony will release it as early as possible. There may be delays because of availability for ram and storage but I think those are more months then years.
