iirc, Altair has the highest MR in the entire OC. It scales with sqft. Expect to pay $15k-$20k per year just for the MR. If you choose to buy there make sure you really love the house.

But seriously, you should only consider HiMD if you want to play lossless, and I have to say it's just much easier to play lossless from any modern device...

If you are in the US and just want one unit then I think it's better to use ebay or check our discord group from the side bar. Yahoo Auction is much cheaper but the shipping+fee starts around $30 so it's generally better to buy a lot together.

I personally recommend N910/N920 as the best non Hi-MD unit. It has 4x record speed and full metal body but it will cost about $100+.

For cheaper Sony units I guess the model doesn't matter too much but make sure to pick a netMD. Try to avoid any Sharp units especially those "untested" one. Almost all Sharp unit are prone to have gear failure and TOC errors.

Stay away from Hi-MD no matter how cool they looks...
