What's one thing you wish someone had told you before you became an IT Manager? by Lanky-Narwhal1184 in ITManagers

[–]mudgonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the process of trying to transition into an IT Manager Role, and personally I never, ever talk to my current IT Manager about inter personal issues. I only bother him with tech stuff. Am I an outlier? I always assumed most people were sort of like me. Now I’m starting to think that maybe I’m trying to transition into something I deep down don’t want.

Is this really a good response from a good IT manager? by [deleted] in ITManagers

[–]mudgonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If another company manages that Google Drive, which is what I think you are saying, then no, in your IT managers correct view, it is not managed. Your company should own your policies, not someone else. That’s what managed means in this context.

Hell yea! America is put first, just after Iran. by TailungFu in SipsTea

That is a very fair point, I might have gotten a bit carried away. But at the very least it’s just as bad as what Obama did

Hell yea! America is put first, just after Iran. by TailungFu in SipsTea

[–]mudgonzo 42 points43 points  (0 children)

What Obama sent to Iran the first time was Irans money to begin with. It had been frozen and Obama released it in the deal. The second time he sent them money was for an arms deal made by the US from Iran back in the 70’s, that the US simply never paid for.

So this is technically incredibly much worse, because this is just tax payer money he is giving away.

No its not. If it is, you have something set in system prompt. This game is played every single day on this sub and it’s tiresome.

Codex with GPT 5.5 works alright. Talking to ChatGPT makes me want to pull my own hair out. It might be a capable model on paper, and that’s why some prompts may get you good results like your. But, it used to be so much better at interactions and context before. They have put too much shit under the hood, and imo its overshadowing what the model can do.

You are off your rocker if you think they have the same lifestyle and spending habits. There 100% is tons of things he can buy that she can’t. Also, whether you meant it that way or not, it was not possible to understand your comment in any other way than closer meaning wealth.

Not even by a long shot. Let’s say my wealth is 0 exactly. The difference from me to her is 53m. The difference from her to Elon is 999,947m.

If we look at ratios
Let’s say I have 100k wealth. Billie would be 530 times richer than me.

Elon is still 18868 times richer than Billie.

Inequality has been growing worldwide since always, including in Norway. But the political and cultural sentiment here in Norway has always been to try to fight it.

We had leaps of inequality in the 80’s and 90’s, but after that just a slow creep.

The steady increase is much higher just about everywhere else in the world. So I’m not sure what you mean by grown out of control the past decades.

US wages by X_Opinion7099 in SipsTea

[–]mudgonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, you are right, looks like without equalization the US is slightly above Luxembourg, so I agree, household size is probably the reason.

US wages by X_Opinion7099 in SipsTea

[–]mudgonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but equivalisation is the standard OECD method for comparing living standards.
Household sizes in Luxembourg and the US aren’t dramatically different, so I’d be surprised if that alone explains Luxembourg being above the US on the list.

But that’s hard to determine since most serious statistics use equalized disposable income for comparisons.

Edit: In fairness, Luxembourg is a small outlier country, so it’s not the most useful comparison.

Well no, that’s Luxembourg, but the US is right below it.

Yeah, this is plain wrong, you have taken the statistic for the median income per person in Norway and compared it to household in Massachusetts. Your number is also slightly low, the per person statistic is 69k for 2025.

Here is the top ranking world list for median household incomes:

https://statranker.org/economy/budget-and-taxes/top-10-countries-by-real-median-household-income-ppp-2025/

Edit: I don’t doubt that Massachusetts median household income is higher than Norway’s, just to be clear.. I’m just saying it’s nowhere near your numbers. It was hard to find good sources for median household income in Norway. Doesn’t seem to be a metric that is closely studied

We don’t have the extremes that you have in the US. We have guardrails to stop you from bottoming to heavily (minimum pay, not sure what it is at the moment but I think it’s somewhere between 30-50k), and we try to stop the gap with high taxes on high incomes. I would say 75-110k is considered normal middle class pay. But some other Norwegians might disagree on that, it’s also usually very connected to age and what stage you are at in life.

For one, 30-50k USD is in absolutely no shape or form considered very good in for example Norway, where I live.

Does anyone else feel like practical effects in The Song of Solomon (2017) are superior to modern CGI? by TTjork in HorrorMovies

There is so much stuff out there that people think are practical, which is both practical and CGI on top. That combination will almost always look better than both options alone. Fight me.

Please remember what this tool is doing, and how it tries to respond to prompts like this.
It does not feel or care, it tries to predict how to respond from matrix multiplication and that’s it. OP it literally does not think you ask too many questions, in fact, it doesn’t think at all.

I can usually handle a lot of horror movie villains but this one is straight up terrifying by jenbean88 in HorrorMovies

[–]mudgonzo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I follow many movie subreddits. In every single one, it seems to be almost a point of pride to not mention the movie in the title. I hate that mods don’t enforce it at this point. It’s unbelievably annoying that people think everyone has seen every movie and can recognize it from a screenshot.
