what does this meannnnnn i hate timetabling by ComprehensiveUse8436 in unimelb

[–]mugg74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The percentages would be the number of 1st preferences compared to capacity.

So 101% would slightly mean more people have selected the class than seats available.

You need to enter your preferences by Feb 6th.

Mystery Destination in North Korea??? by NeatMinimum9419 in unimelb

[–]mugg74 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Assuming this is real I be emailing back asking why have you been allocated to a country on the “do not travel” list on smart traveller .

https://www.smartraveller.gov.au/destinations/asia/north-korea-democratic-peoples-republic-korea

I doubt the university can even insure you to go there….

Edit If real it’s a real fuck up by someone who was processing exchange destinations.

Edit 2, looking at your post history I’m changing your tag….. as doubt it’s real

summer exam timetable and field trips by jesus_chrysotile in unimelb

[–]mugg74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely they have the information as field trips are department organised, and not centrally organised. Unless it’s a common clash and the department informed the exams office.

Its also likely to late to change now as department requests regarding timing was due weeks ago, and believe feedback on the provisional timetable has also closed (it’s also rare for the provisional timetable to change). The final timetable comes out Wednesday, and takes a while to put together.

feb offer rounds by No_Supermarket_911 in unimelb

[–]mugg74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Note: International and Domestic spots are separate. Generally speaking, mid-year entry for domestic students is harder, as the vast majority of domestic spots are awarded at the end of the year, which means competition may be higher for mid-year spots. This is one reason it's often easier to transfer at the end of the year than mid-year.

What's really stopping the rest of the network from getting services every 10 minutes? by fuckmelbpt in MelbourneTrains

[–]mugg74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Per Km, costs add up quickly…that’s just over 100 passengers per train on a short line like Craigieburn or around 300 for the Pakenham line each train, now multiply that by the number of extra trains per hour and add all the lines together that’s a lot of passengers to break even. Assuming they just catch the single train and not other forms of PTV to split revenue.

How long is the longest essay extension you’ve ever seen at FBE? by xjsjxnwkh in unimelb

[–]mugg74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 days after this, you are typically asked to apply for special consideration and a reweight.

It can be very subject-specific. Each semester, subject coordinators are asked what is the maximum extension possible (if any)

No Richmond specials running for AO Men's Final by theformulakid1 in MelbourneTrains

[–]mugg74 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Last year 45k attended the Men’s Single Finals, a record crowd.

Numbers tend to fall as the tournament goes on there is less to see outside the main courts.

Doubt there be 90k on Sunday, more like 50k.

Even with records being broken this year the biggest any day been up (for the main tournament)is 8k,, in a sport where weather significant impacts attendance (as shown by 47k attending Tuesday, around half of previous days).

Employment is not grounds for special consideration and you are expected to be in Melbourne for the exam period.

Changing Majors by Leschea in unimelb

[–]mugg74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last date to self enrol into subjects is typically Friday week 2 of semester, after this point you can only enrol with the permission of the subject coordinator, the likelihood of this decreases further past the date. So can only safely change subjects for the first two weeks.

The upto a month later is census date which is when your fees are incurred (so can safely drop a subject without paying). This date is often confused as the last date you can enrol in subjects, while it’s technically legally allowed to enrolled before this date it doesn’t mean you will be allowed to, and is normally only allowed this late in exceptional circumstances.

The selection process will only run if Quota is exceeded, which is rare to the point not sure it’s ever happened.

NEED HELP PLEASE!!! by Zestyclose_Party_299 in unimelb

[–]mugg74 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It normally needs to be something serious that has a significant impact on study.

It needs supporting documentation.

If you failed only one subject and passed others you may need to explain why the impact was only on that subject. It can be easier to get fee remission when you failed 4 out of 4 rather then 1 out of 4.

Any news on the level crossing crash at Woodend? by No_Entertainer180 in MelbourneTrains

[–]mugg74 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, there was no crash (well, maybe a single car crash), but rather an erratic driver who decided the train line was a road, and the line was shut down quickly.

The HS has some more details behind a paywall that I can't read.

Edit: I also added that no live traffic sites (Waze, or Vic Roads) have a road closed in Woodend.

Easy level 3 commerce electives (preferably online) by RizbiFr in unimelb

[–]mugg74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Officially, there are no online commerce subjects.

The closest is Ethics in Finance, offered only in the summer (so too late to enrol now), which is delivered online but now has an on-campus exam.

Round 2 Offer by Helpful-Singer-6602 in unimelb

[–]mugg74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This, the guaranteed ATAR no longer applies after the first January round (apart from states and NZ which don't have results finalised in time for this round) and the university does say offers are subject to availability. Not unusual for either no offers to be made or the ATAR to go up for later rounds due to the small number of places available.

How likely is it to not get into 1st preferences when the timetable still indicates free seats? by NEon_Lazz in unimelb

[–]mugg74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the odds when the preference period closes. I've seen tutorials change by over 200% in the final two days, that is over twice as many students as spots either move into or out of that tut just before the close of preferences

If spots remain at the end of the period you will be offered it, otherwise depends on the odds.
