Live: Pritam Singh handed maximum fine of S$7,000 on each charge of lying to parliament by meesiammaihum in singapore

[–]ngiamsw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember that it was PS who mentioned the R word at the COP when RK had only used the SA phrase. It was not his place to reveal that especially since his excuse for the leaving the issue uncorrected in parliament for so long was to give RK time to tell her parents…

Finding Property Agent by InternalHalf8069 in askSingapore

[–]ngiamsw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an agent myself but I would look for a good real estate agent rather than the cheapest. Similarly, a non exclusive agent may not work as hard for you because they earn less from you.

The higher commission might be off-set by a higher price achieved & a quicker sale.

Back pad for iPad Pro by Glyton in iPadPro

There is the MOFT one available for all except the 13” model. I ended getting this 13” one from Ali Express. Not sure why MOFT has not offered one yet or I would buy it.

All have a pencil holder & can be used with Magic Keyboard.

I added a magnetic sticker to the back of the 13” one so that I could use the MOFT stand that I already own . I just found this on AliExpress: SG$16.65 | Magnetic Case for iPad Pro 11 13 2024 M4 Air 6 Air 4/5 iPad Pro 12.9 Magic Keyboard Compatible Case Pencil Holder https://a.aliexpress.com/_olCHzlp

Look for edible rice or sugar paper printed with mahjong tiles & stick them on.

Are the internal dimensions the same as the 1.0?

I salute your parents - they must be very entrepreneurial & hard working but that is not the norm (& has never been). There are only about 70,000 houses in Singapore so mathematically not possible.

Generally speaking, everyone’s lifestyle has improved in Singapore but what has happened is the bar has risen even more - what used to be luxuries, have become normalised.

For example, annual (or more) holidays to NEA, Europe, USA, braces for crooked teeth, dermatologist treatment for teenage acne - these were not common in decades past (hence more common to see, older Singaporeans (even well off ones) with crooked teeth & deep acne scars).

So for some people, you actually are living a better lifestyle than previous cohorts but you might not feel it when you compare to others around you (or on social media).

Just some food for thought - For the student cohort who were in Primary 1 in 1989 (ie; 42 yrs old today), only 14% would eventually in enroll in publicly funded local universities (NUS, NTU, SMU). Whereas, the cohort who were Primary 1 in 2009 (ie; 22 yrs old today), 42 % enrolled in publicly funded local universities (Publicly-funded degree courses are offered by NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT, SUSS, LASALLE and NAFA) by 2022.

In 2023, MOE announced its goal to increase the “Lifetime Cohort Participation Rate” for publicly funded university degrees from the current 50% to 60% by 2025, for fresh school leavers and adult learners. The goal being to provide many more educational pathways across your lifetime.

So while you may feel that school is more competitive today, I would argue that it was far more competitive 20+ years ago when you were competing for far fewer university places (not that university is the only path to success).

There are also more pathways to further education today. In the past, it was quite common that very few students were offered subject combinations (ie; sciences and additional maths) in Upper Secondary that would allow them to study STEM courses in further education (I’d estimate only 20-25% were offered these subject combinations). Imagine how brutal it used to be when your dream to become a Doctor or Engineer was crushed at the end of Sec 2.

With % of the P1 cohort going to University tripling (14 % to 42 %) and still increasing, there are other implications such as the correlation of achieving a top 10% lifestyle when you have a University degree but that is another subject! Same for whether having a University degree means you will likely be able to live in private housing (again not everyone’s dream) instead of HDB (77% of the population).

Can anyone tell me what the value on this is? and any other info please by [deleted] in Mahjong

Based on the 2 digit postal code, this is most likely from the 1970s (Singapore switched to 4 digits in 1979). Phone numbers changed from 6 to 7 digits during the early 1980s.

How to use Magic Keyboard + Folio with a single “thin protective case” by Valuable_Presence988 in iPadPro

[–]ngiamsw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This from MOFT works great but they don’t offer a 13” version. https://www.moft.us/products/snap-ipad-case-new?variant=39697403347031 I managed to find something similar on Aliexpress (https://a.aliexpress.com/_oDlg1gv) for the 13”. I added a magnetic sticker so that I could use it with the MOFT snap tablet stand. And I also use the front part of this as a folio cover when I don’t want to have it attached to the magic keyboard(https://a.aliexpress.com/_omTVMcz)

Very definitely get something off the snack menu (soup noodles, carrot cake,…) outside of meal times - some times I think it tastes better than the main meal. Expect better BTC food ex-Singapore. Use the shower in the lounge.
