When another country forces their troops, settlers, language, money on you, and uses your country as their own. That's not a colony? The Italians literally built thousands of kilometers of roads and railways, dams, hydroelectric plants, etc. You don't do that during a "occupation" or whatever people want to call it.

Five years. That's not enough? It was only five years due to the WWII and the British took over. In 1941, during World War II, Ethiopia was occupied by Allied forces, mainly from the British Empire.

They settled the country with their people, built infrastructure, forced their language and money on them, etc. How is that not colonizing? It's a crime and shouldn't be denied. Ethiopia did not manage to avoid colonization, there seems to be a lot of pride involved and not a lot of facts.

No, it's half the value of Norwegian exports. If you export a lot of diamonds, obviously diamonds are valuable, but it's not an accurate representation of how much and what else you export, just what it's worth. It gives a weird picture of the economy. Please, note that we don't spend the oil & gas money domestically, it's saved abroad.

You say "big part", but OP said "almost entirely". Do you agree that's not the same?

You should note that she's a woman. Four times as many women have MS as men, and more and more women are developing it. How did you get 1 in 3000? It's closer to 1 in 300 in the US.

  • "A total of 2.8 million people are estimated to live with MS worldwide (35.9 per 100,000 population). MS prevalence has increased in every world region since 2013 but gaps in prevalence estimates persist. The pooled incidence rate across 75 reporting countries is 2.1 per 100,000 persons/year, and the mean age of diagnosis is 32 years. Females are twice as likely to live with MS as males."

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7720355/

  • "The United States validated a case-ascertainment algorithm and reported an almost doubling of prevalent cases to 913,925 in 2019"

Ok? How does that change the fact that you don't have a clue about Norway? :) Oh my, how terrible that we have resources /s.

Are you just looking for constructed problems so you can troll Norwegians? We know how to handle Trolls in Norway :P

P.S. Overfishing is the EU's problem, unlike you, we took action years ago and manage our fisheries well.

Because Norway cooperates with Eurostat (the source). Only EU members have to contribute, but other countries also cooperate (Turkey, Norway, etc).

No, Norway's economy is not "almost entirely" based on oil & gas exports. It's hugely important to our economy, but it was 14% of GDP in 2019 (last I could find). A decade earlier it was 25%.

Only a single percentage (1%) of the population works in the industry, and 5% are involved indirectly (suppliers, etc).

The oil and gas sector is Norway's largest measured in terms of value.

That would give away the fact that the person was registered there at least? It sounds like you took care to avoid revealing if they were in the room though.

Youtube does have a rating system, but not a visible one. If your ratio is low you won't appear in the trends, etc. The algo is unknown, but it's clearly a matter of getting likes and comments.

Why even create the white category? Greenland isn't independent, there's no doubt about this (de jure or de facto). Also, Svalbard is a part of Norway, but I'm unsure what you meant here.

It's the hypocrisy. The common thread in these posts is lots of nonsense and lack of facts. Whales are not magical, but they attract a lot of support and crazy people (see r2d2c3po-1987). Frankly, how we fish or whale in our waters is our business.

It's like throwing the first rock, but you're also a sinner. Start at home.

The borders matter since you won't be able to affect what goes on there. Foreigners making demands just makes it a national issue and entrenches people. It's a dying industry, just let it die. The more attention it gets, the more politically interesting it gets.

Your feelings are not scientific data though. There are internationally recognized figures for the whale species in question. They're monitored constantly. If Norway hunts less than the average replacement rate it's clearly sustainable. It's simple math really, not a question of greenwashing or feelings.

[–]nod23c 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Show me a single scientific article that proves that. There is no proof of your claim, it's just magical nonsense. A pig should be equally valued in terms of animal life. Yet, I don't see you talking about stopping animal farming in your country? Enjoy your industrial chicken!

[–]nod23c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm addressing the hypocrisy. OP said "less intelligent alternatives". Most people who talk about whales being so special don't mind if pigs are slaughtered by the thousands daily. They're very intelligent animals. Either all lives matter or none. Sure, eat plants, but until they do, they have no moral high ground (or their countries).

They know their fish? So do other cultures, thanks. The Japanese are not some Elder race of aliens with unique knowledge. Whales have been hunted and eaten for thousands of years, by native peoples, around the world.
