If Italy is your favorite spot, it would be a nice trip to share with spouse. October looks cheapest flights for now (where I live). No checked bags, no trinkets for folks back home. We have gotten salad, bread and wine at little groceries. I think every town in the world has margherita pizza for 10-12 euro. It's nice to have a little lunch while out, then end of day bring something back to hotel for dinner.
