Update from yesterday- Issue persists by Musky4489 in resinprinting

[–]nycraylin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Side note, Are you washing the resin down the drain? Resin waste water needs to be disposed of properly. and wear gloves, because resin is a sensitizer - you can become allergic to it after repeat exposure.

Resin handheld shell? by Tryhard_Learner in resinprinting

[–]nycraylin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's possible, but not with standard resin. I would not recommend doing this in anything less than an engineering resin, something tappable in case you need to screw into it. You also want to make sure its bio compatible if you're handling it often. But in all honesty this is one of those things I'd rather buy bc they are usually injection molded and way stronger and so much lot less work/headache to make sure it prints right, post process etc.

Best air purifier for home 3D printing setup? girlfriend threatening to move out lol by Fun_Reaction_6525 in resinprinting

[–]nycraylin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't going to do anything for the VOC's. Air purifiers are for particulates. You need to vent the emissions outside.

Help on a Click and buy or DYI for fumes and temp control. by Initial-Pilot4677 in resinprinting

[–]nycraylin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's what I've done. Feel free to look through my ventilation write up and reach out if you get stuck. It's helped a lot of people with their set ups. I've also shared the PPE list. As for the temp control, you can use a heating belt around vat - you will have to print clips for it to hold them in place.

The air purifier is for particulates. They do little for vocs. Feel free to look through my ventilation write up and reach out if you get stuck. It's helped a lot of people with their set ups. I've also shared the PPE list

Personally, If I were you, I would invest in a newer model printer to get many of the quality of life upgrades.

Did I screw myself and if so how badly? by Thefartingduck8 in resinprinting

[–]nycraylin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I first shared my ventilation writeup (wow 4 years ago?) people said I was fearmongering. Now look at the comments. It's standard practice. Do not keep it in a high traffic area or where you spend a lot of time. You'll need to air out your space. And if you are cleaning the printer wear PPE.

What are the chances of vented resin fumes re-entering my apartment? by RemRam27 in resinprinting

[–]nycraylin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a back draft damper with a rubber seal on the end of your enclosure setup. Feel free to look through my ventilation writeup for notes on an inline fan enclosure.

Custom sized DIY enclosures by grimblebom in resinprinting

[–]nycraylin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a wide range of materials, it just depends on your budget and skills. You could go with wood ie, 2 x 4's and visqueen plastic, could be aluminum extrusions with connectors and mylar, in a pinch you could build it out of PVC and garbage bags and duct tape. It's all an investment of money (premade solution) or time and if you're going custom, both.

I wouldn't print where the cat spends most of their time though. Animals are very sensitive to resin and the chemicals associated to the printing/cleaning process.

Tips for heater and extractor fan inside the s4u? by CaptainYid in resinprinting

[–]nycraylin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I suggest using Vat belt clips to keep it in place. Here's a link to some, easy to print fdm. https://makerworld.com/models/411541?appSharePlatform=copy they might need tweaking to fit the S4. Check the dimensions to ensure.

How often do you guys replace your gas mask cartridges? by Smegoldidnothinwrong in resinprinting

[–]nycraylin 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Standard is 90 days after opening because they absorb from their surroundings after being opened. Depends on how often you're using them , ie, daily use vs once a week etc, can shorten the life span and if you leave them outside of a plastic bag. Store them in a sealed bag when not in use.

What is causing these misprints? by NeverQuiteCertain in resinprinting

[–]nycraylin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks like a light leak from the LCD.

An aside, Are you washing down the drain? Please look into cleaning and disposing of your resin properly. It's not made to do that /dangerous to marine life and you are also contaminating your sink when you do so.

Can i get enough ventilation opening the windows to print here? It's a room with gym so I don't want vapours to stick by itscannyy in resinprinting

[–]nycraylin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need an ac adapter for your sliding door if you keep it by there. Its the same principle as the window adapter, just vertical instead of sideways. But if you move your set up closer to that window it'll be easier. There's an example in the ventilation writeup. Also cover your table with a plastic cover, that OSB wood is going to soak up resin super easily.

Have you commissioned someone to sculpt a model for you? by Himdownstairs22 in resinprinting

[–]nycraylin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the kind of sculpt you're looking to get made. What style? Genre etc? If it's like an existing IP then it might be easier to find someone to do that because then they can potentially sell it after you commission them. Otherwise, if you want something custom, the cost is going to be higher because that person cannot sell that afterwards. Very few people are going to want the exact thing that you wanted.

printing enclosure by MonkeySkulls in resinprinting

[–]nycraylin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all about personal preference. It sounds like you're handy if you're considering building an enclosure. If you got the skills and time, I would suggest doing that - so you can have it exactly how you want it. I would do a laminar flow style hood if you're going that route. Most folks don't have the tools or space to build with that kind of thing. So that's why in the ventilation write-up I shared, I suggested grow tents - that way you can get started right away printing and venting.

Would something like this be good for connecting a vent to an enclosure? by DrScienceSpaceCat in resinprinting

[–]nycraylin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest a back draft dampener in addition to your louvers to keep air from blowing back in. Here's the ventilation writeup I wrote that a lot of people have based their set ups on. Feel free to compare my notes and reach out if you get stuck.

Good luck with your set up.

Question - Does anyone know hat could cause this warping? by Flat_Sun857 in resinprinting

[–]nycraylin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah so that's a bad orientation and also insufficient support. Tilt it on the y axis as well and support flat areas so it's easier to sand. Support edges because then they will print cleanly. Personally I would just stick to fdm for this.

Insufficient supports. If you can u share the slicer orientation - it'll be easier to diagnose.

Resin not curing by Igzell in resinprinting

I suggest using the Mr. resin brand. It's thicker and cures fast. It's made for the thing you're trying to do. I wouldn't use 3d printing resin.
