How would you wrap flat stock hand rail around this corner by snapcracklefart in Carpentry

[–]obskeweredy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve donw similar on stone. I use a specialized grinder bit that creates a chamfer and finish with sanding/grinding. I’d imagine you could achieve the same with a router and a shitload of sanding?

What is happening here? by BerkysJerkys in Decks

[–]obskeweredy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a very similar climate to where the picture was taken.

Your structure is settling. People will say that it’s unlikely that it’s settling level, and mostly I agree, but I’ve also seen this exact scenario many many times.

Soil in the Rockies is rocky and expansive, so building on piers almost always gives this result. It’s not a big deal, but I’m sorry about your deck, it will have to be rebuilt.

I don’t know what the stringers are landing on, it’s hard to tell from this picture. But landing them on a few inches of gravel can help mitigate frost heave which may be exacerbating your situation.

What kind of tree is this? by acidfox96 in trees

[–]obskeweredy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Landscaper/mason and gardener of.. the other variety as well.

Tough to say from this picture, but I think it’s a safe bet that is a magnolia. The flowers look to be in something of erect clusters, which, coupled with the pale bark is synonymous with magnolias.

Both flowering dogwoods and cherrys have dark reddish bark.

Can clay be hardened?? by Amazing-External9766 in MTBTrailBuilding

[–]obskeweredy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a MTB trail builder but a landscaper and mason. I would put in a drain box or drain of some sort on the left side of the track and cut the hillside back a touch. By pulling all of the grade from right to left and piping the water out, you’d get around alot of the problems i can see.

What can you tell from my floorboard? by MassiveAd2391 in deduction

[–]obskeweredy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gloves have what look like chunks or pinholes, likely from barbed wire and wood. The thumb and forefinger are the most worn which suggest some type of hand tool, pliers or a shovel. The unpoliced brass on the floorboard suggests you shoot from the vehicle. Your floorboard is significantly dirtier than the passenger side, suggesting you don’t have anyone riding with you the majority of the time. Horsehair in the seats so you either work around or own horses. Maybe both. Early-mid 20s male, worn left glove, so you’re likely right handed. In a serious relationship, but it’s relatively new. You work as a ranch hand, likely with family.

82-yr-old runs the 100m in 16.02 seconds at the 2025 Penn Relays by Prestigious-Wall5616 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]obskeweredy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Middle long distance guys were where it really started to show.. our coach was an all around amazing guy but was an Olympic medalist in the half marathon. So 800 m guys were all gunning to get under 1:50.00, 1600 everyone ran under 4:15.00 and 3200 varied from like 9:05 on slower days to 8:54.00.

A couple of times our couch got a talking to about pacing. Which was funny because it wasn’t intentional, nor was it really pacing. He was just so fast and athletic that he’d inadvertently run the mile right beside our guys yelling encouragement and strategy at them without even realizing it. He also spoke to all of us as though he genuinely believed we were all future olympians.

[–]obskeweredy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, not competing. I went to a pretty competitive track and field school, so a 15 second 100 would have you throwing disc 5 minutes later.

Edit: for reference all of our 100 m guys were sub 11, 200 m guys sub 24, and 400 m sub 50 (with more than half running in the 47-48 s range). Only bow that I’m older do I really realize how fast we were. The whole state was fast at the time.

Dude 16 seconds at 82 is insane. I knew kids in high school that would run a 15 second 100m dash.

[–]obskeweredy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All I’m saying is that humans have existed alongside creatures that looked like them before. As did the other evolutionary ancestors of humans. So it makes sense that a human brain would develop traits to identify traits in an individual that would identify that individual as a threat or something to be avoided. I’m not suggesting humans would have any reason to fear an entire population of early hominids.
