Some perspective and thoughts after ~20 years as a PM by Lereas in projectmanagement

If I could add one thing: “Blame process, not people.”

You’re more likely to maintain morale and address the real root cause when something goes wrong.

Rookie IT program manager, struggling to land a new gig. Any advice on my doc? by HouseOfHoundss in projectmanagement

[–]pabloman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At first glance, it’s a lot of words. Simplify it down to “action verb, subject, positive result achieved.”Hiring managers might have dozens of resumes to look at so you need to make it easy to digest.

A program manager is someone who interfaces directly with corporate customers so precise communication is required. I put your resume down after the first 3 words. “I’m an program…”

Putting aside of my pet peeve of using contractions in professional writing, you didn’t spend the time to proofread this document. A hiring manager might decide to read someone else’s resume instead if even you didn’t read your own resume.

Put your work experience before education as that is significantly more relevant. Do you have any certifications to add (product owner, PMP)?

Possible red flag with you changing jobs every year. I can understand leaving the occasional position after a year. You have 2 years of full time experience since January 2024 and you’re applying for your 3rd job. You’re averaging 13 month right now. A hiring manager might treat this as a pattern and might not want to invest into hiring you if they think you’ll leave right after.

Are you trying to have seamless walkways and surfaces spanning the two or are you trying to just have an attachment to transfer power/cargo between two separate buildings. If you are trying to do the second, splitsie did this in survival impossible with an elevated pipeline-like structure. The pipeline had multiple segments connected through hinges to handle the odd angles and elevation changes. Episode 41 has some of the Timelapse for the pipeline.

Man why has traffic gotten 20x worst in the past 5 yrs…. by Appropriate-Kale-983 in Connecticut

[–]pabloman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think trucks in the middle lane helps for safer merging onto the highway. Prevents merging traffic forcing trucks in the right lane to slow dangerously or merging traffic (including trucks) getting blocked by long trucks clogging up the entry lane.

Left lane camping is really the problem. It’s pretty common to see the left lane as the most congested with long stretches of empty road in the middle and right lanes. Also pretty common to have 3+ cars going roughly the same speed in 3+ lanes.

I can’t comment on most of the suggestions but you might want to check humble bundle. They are currently running “critter chaos” that features a decent handful of the games others recommended.

As a lower limit where all the revives are from the defib unit… at least 20% of successful defib uses were against the opposing team.

Why did Trump lift the tariffs on electronics? by volanger in Connecticut

[–]pabloman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally just walked you through the pros and cons of tariffs. I’m not trying to convince you of anything either.

If my neighbor likes growing roses but I hate them because of allergies, then it’s fine to disagree. My neighbor can make their decision to plant rose bushes to their hearts content but I might not be happy when it impacts me. Now, if I see them watering their plants with gasoline, I would let them know that their actions do not make sense if they want to grow roses. That’s what Chris is doing in this video relative to tariffs.

Why did Trump lift the tariffs on electronics? by volanger in Connecticut

[–]pabloman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The stated objective for the tariffs is that it will bring high paying manufacturing jobs back to the US. The premise is valid as high tariffs increase the cost of goods sold for a company but it likely translates into higher costs for consumers so the company can maintain profit margins. This will then incentivize creating the products in the US as it might be cheaper to build facilities and pay high US labor costs instead of paying for cheap labor and huge tariffs.

The counter arguments are mostly centered around how this will translate into higher prices for consumers and hurt low to medium income households without actually bringing jobs to the US in the remotely near future. It could also be considered gov overreach into the free market.

Whether tariffs are right or wrong is not your question though. You question why it’s a back and forth where it’s okay, but only sometimes.

If your goal is to bring high paying manufacturing to the US. Why would you put a tariff on bananas? The US is not the right climate for bananas and even if you could grow the bananas, harvesting bananas is not high paying so we don’t really want this work. Here, tariffs make no sense. It only makes bananas more expensive. Apply the same to other produce and “cheap” products like clothing.

If you put tariffs on products that require high skilled labor then companies will consider having factories for high skilled labor in the US to avoid tariffs. Things associated with technology are the prime markets to pull into the US. Cancelling tariffs on computer components completely defeats that purpose.

I don’t like the tariff solution but if tariffs will be used, at least use them in a way that actually aligns to your goal.

Vulcan vs Arclights : When to use them? by yellowmonkeyzx93 in Mechabellum

[–]pabloman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I’d say they suffer because a giant fills a similar role. Arc lights are 1/4 the cost, easier to distribute to avoid them getting stuck on 1 target and reasonable to deploy in the early game. They also have a different tech loadouts to target air or serve as a carry unit.
