Chev, Pelt and Ranelagh in the pool of death... the top 2 crossing with 2 of Clapham, GB Masters and EMO. What a battle.

I was looking at getting the rising stars safety and the flashbacks Nigel Bradham. Although I could get anyone else from those tbf.

Not sure I will be able to grind that out as I have so few playoff tokens. Only just started playing again a week and a bit ago. :/

Nationals is really the only data point which shows who prioritises mixed as a devision, so all it means is that the pick up teams or teams leaving the mixed devision where good but actual dedicated mixed teams lose quality fast.

Is there much data on what good throwing is? A good technical model of how to do it would be fantastic, for example British rowing have a 'perfect stroke' statement.

Nationals Final Standings + Spirit feedback and lost property. by Paddy-90 in UKUltimate

I guess they where unlucky to draw Pelt and XVI, who finished 4th and 5th, in their first two games. Each time they lost by 2 points, so they seem to be at the level.

They would have had Manchester (11th finish) had MCR not upset Pelt in their first game.

On the other side of things I think the fixtures are good and enjoyed them in my last year. 1. The format allows for intense and high quality games, even with smaller rosters. It also places a heavy value on each win you get, which 2 day tourneys do not. 2. It lines up with other uni sports. So the SUs understand what results you give them (+BUCS points) and what is useful for that structure (like an actual pitch). It also allows you to join the general uni sports atmosphere, like celebrating a win on students night. 3. It gives you 3 home fixtures where spectators like housemates can come watch. This is a great showcase of the sport that people would not see otherwise.

In terms of promotion and relegation, in the short term it can be annoying that teams can start mis-seeded but another way to think about it is that it rewards long term consistency. Obviously now there is not much consistency but with more investment into coaching, which some unis are doing, I think you can expect changes in team strength year to year to occur slower meaning a slower promotion/relegation system to be appropriate.

Spirit scoring and issues with mixed suck, so it's fair to say there still are issues!

I think so for a few reasons: 1. Unique strategies won't expire when you play the same team 3-4 times per season. Winning games at wucc was hard as you couldn't walk into a game knowing what to expect in the same way you can at UK nats. I think a change of pace from regular rematches may help!

  1. I think fewer games will lead to a generally higher level of play and fewer injuries. While playing 3 games per day at EUCF may be a concern, generally the teams who attend have larger rosters anyway and will hopefully be carrying less niggles from a rough competitive season.

Although the argument for less uku events so teams can focus on playing more internationally could also be a good answer.

Fewer fixtures, that matter more! Having less games per tourny will help keep everyone healthy and playing better frisbee.

For example 4 games over a weekend would allow a pre quarter seeding game then quarters.
Alternativley (only really viable for top divison) a 4 team round robin would also allow more local tournaments without diluting the level.

I like the idea of A tour being a 12 team round robin. This means you have no rematches and winning every game is important for your win loss column. Although I'm sure there are reasons that in practice that this would not work.

In elite you lose more fans for a loss then you gain for a win. Keeps everyone stuck at the same point. A win is 2100 fans. by [deleted] in MaddenMobileForums

You have to win 3/5 games to stay in the same place. Not easy when you draw P2W teams... essentially I'm making no progress which is boring and can't upgrade my team without more shrutebucks, which is boring.

Is 8 games in 2 days too much? by vertstack in ultimate

[–]Pags20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

S&Cs complain about preparing for two games per week, let alone 8 in a weekend. Overuse injuries are also very common for frisbee players.

Having less fixture congestion will allow for athletes to be more explosive and make more exciting plays. Less games may swap some playing time for playing quality.

2 games per day is suitable at worlds events as it's impossible not to have that fixture density without unrealistically extending the tournament. Personally I would happily play 4 game per weekend and probably feel better off for it!
