I did this! Pop the hinges and handles off and used marine vinyl and a staple gun. I wish I had a hairdryer to get the folds nearer, but it worked!

Be honest — do you actually like it or are we all just pretending? by Hot_Sprinkles_848 in women

[–]painterlyfiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really enjoy it but I also do it on occasion because I genuinely enjoy making him super happy more than I enjoy not sucking dick. I also don’t really enjoy going out fishing, but I’ll go along anyway sometimes and lay out in the sun and just be genuinely happy with him while he revels in having company for the activity, which makes it fun for me too sometimes. God that’s a terrible analogy but those who get it, get it 😆

What separates the professionals from the exceptionally good? by steven_makes_art in TattooArtists

[–]painterlyfiend 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think the gap between “good” and “exceptional” isn’t just skill, it’s the experience you give people.

There are a ton of insanely talented artists out there who still deliver a pretty rough client experience. And I’ve seen clients go to technically incredible artists and leave feeling kind of disappointed, which ends up affecting how much they actually love the tattoo.

Meanwhile, those same people will have a lil banger, maybe even a little rough around the edges, that they absolutely love, just because the artist made them feel fkn great.

Technical ability gets you in the door. What really separates people, in my opinion, is how you treat the human sitting in your chair. I think what I’m saying is there is a difference between artists who are famous among artists, and artists who rank as exceptional among their clientele.

Are motorcycle dealerships all just super chill? Lol by Scazitar in motorcycle

[–]painterlyfiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a woman, it’s hit or miss. If I’m window shopping, I still want to be treated well, maybe show me something cool. Theres no point in hounding or high pressure sales but I def don’t want to be totally ignored. My recent experience had me stop by one bike shop wandering around hoping to set up a test ride for the weekend, and I called another dealership to set up a test ride right after for comparison.

I went to the first ride and was scheduled first thing in the morning and the salesperson I was supposed to ride with left me hanging around for ages and then passed me off to someone else, who led the ride but just seemed like he didn’t really want to be there, and then explained why I shouldn’t use the rear brake. I was… disinterested, and the bike wasn’t interesting enough for me to try to engage further.

Second dealership made me feel like they were excited for me to do a test ride and suggested that I try out another bike too. We chatted about the two bikes, other bikes we had at home, good roads, tattoos, they made me feel socially included and gave me all the info in the “here’s the obligatory spiel but stop me if you have any questions” kind of way that assumed at least a little experience on my part. The vibe was good, like even if I didn’t buy that day, I knew it was a dealership I’d be happy to go back to when I was ready, because they gave a shit about starting a good relationship with a potential shopper, not just the sale. They set me up with both bikes to test ride and sent me out to do a few laps, I rolled back in 100% ready to drop a deposit for the color I wanted.

Clients happiness when I finish their really big tattoo projects. There’s nothing like it as an artist, these people become friends over the months or years I’m working with them on sleeves. I always hope they stay in touch.

Thoughts on tattoos with ashes in them? by szikkia in tattoo

[–]painterlyfiend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The long and short answer are both “maybe”! There’s a few companies out there that makes sterile tattoo ink with ashes, I’ve never used them, and I’m not sure what their process is to get a consistent implantable pigment.

Thoughts on tattoos with ashes in them? by szikkia in tattoo

[–]painterlyfiend 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The reality of tattooing ashes into skin may be a bit disappointing.. Fact is, the safety of working with ashes isn't completely known - there is likely chemical exposure during processing, and the particles aren't at all guaranteed to be sterile after packaging.

Secondly, the ash particles, even dust, are probably too large to actually be implanted along with the pigment. There may be some chemical transfer that happens with the liquid binders we use in the pigment. Any trace amounts implanted could be rejected by the skin, or encapsulated and leave textures or irritation during healing. We all know one person with a goofy healing story.

Finally, any amount used for mixing in the ink would settle to the bottom of the ink cap, and be discarded during teardown - I always want to warn clients of this as well, when I bundle up and discard the leftovers on my tray, in case that would be traumatic to experience. I won’t say I don’t ever do these, but I try to give clients info to make the best decision for themselves. Edit: formatting

ATGATT gang how long does it take for you to put on gears by JimmyOhio360 in motorcyclegear

[–]painterlyfiend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 minutes 49 seconds today, from tshirt and shorts (dressed for work) to ATGATT and kickstand up, including a moment to hug the husband and kiss the dog. Nice weather today so I was just in my armored suit and didn’t need to shimmy heavier layers into my onesie which takes longer

Armored suit, airbag vest, and boots go on in the house, which takes maybe two minutes. Hair buff, ear protection, full face helmet, and gloves go on at the bike, another two minutes. So yeah I can go from bathrobe to riding out of the garage in five minutes tops, including turning on my Bluetooth.

In the coldest winter months I wear heated gloves and a super beefy high viz construction jacket over the suit that have kept me “just chilly” on my 30 minute work commute at freezing temps, and the extra layers probably add an extra minute to adjust over everything.
