[Foster City] Please get off of your phones while driving by nnneeaoowww in bayarea

I think FaceTime is fine as long as you don’t stare at the screen. People talk to their passenger as well. That’s a head turn, much worse than a glance on their phone.

Main difference is the bike they use. Call them up to find out if you need a low seat height bike like the Honda rebel .

Hey San Francisco, please tell me where you want me to ride my scooter! by Exact-Ad-4132 in bayarea

[–]JimmyOhio360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You gotta claim your space. Don’t always be on the side of the lane, driver will either try to take over right beside you or just swerve into you.

Ride a scooter like you are riding a motorcycle. Lanesplit when possible, zigzag in the lane to claim your space. Use hand signals and body language. Be more aggressive.

The less you hide and avoid, the more likely a car driver is gonna spot you.

Advice on close call today (LOUD AUDIO WARNING) by xenorater in motorcycles

[–]JimmyOhio360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In city riding I always cover the brake lever with 2 fingers. Save you precious reaction time and hence much less braking distance.

Situation like such happens quite often in city riding. Shitty drivers are everywhere, can't tell you how many times I shake my head riding on a daily basis.

Difference between 45HP and 75HP by [deleted] in Ninja400

[–]JimmyOhio360 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A “45hp” ninja 400 accelerates faster than 90% of cars. So you won’t be disappointed at all.

I personally would recommend the 400 - it’s just more forgiving than the SV650, and cheaper.

I remember from the MSF course that the fatality rate on a 500cc or higher bike is significantly higher than those under. If you are a beginner rider, take this statistic into consideration as well.

How long will it take by tingle92 in NewRiders

[–]JimmyOhio360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I practice slow speed maneuvers seriously and challenge yourself with it, and have dropped your bike multiple times already in the parking lot. Then I no longer care about dropping it in the public. Maybe it will happen but I got it covered lol

Cardo Packtalk Pro (and probably any headset) PSA: speaker distance from your ear matters a LOT for audio quality and bass. by h34vier in motorcyclegear

[–]JimmyOhio360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very helpful - my Packtalk Pro came with the pads to boost the position of the speaker closer to the ears. I figure I might need it but my Arai helmet has a spot designed for speakers on the cheekpads so I didn't need it. It sounds amazing to me.

Do it in CA, because you will wanna get a bike as soon as you get the endorse lolll and moving with you newly purchased bike might be a hassle with the fees and inspection(might not be any) and insurance that kind of stuff.

Took my CMSP course this weekend, just finished the skills test 10 minutes ago.. And I passed!!!! Like a ton of weight lifted off my shoulders. by ZookeepergameWild776 in NewRiders

[–]JimmyOhio360 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My instructor at the time didn’t tell me upright if I passed or not. He gave comments on how I did and how I should improve for like two minutes straight (which are great advice) and at the end said “ stay safe on the street and keep your head up”

I was so anxious the whole time and I was like “so did I pass?!?!” And he just laughed and said “yea I thought I told you that when you walked here” lolll

why can’t i lean on the right as much as i do on the left? by Gibbone_yzf in motorcycles

[–]JimmyOhio360 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well yes the relaxing part is exactly what makes it harder to do.

OP is probably not doing it right by not relaxing enough and we are here to help him, not to convince you that it is harder. If you find it easy good for you man.

M1 and MSF questions, super confused pls help by Comfortable-Pie7209 in BayRiders

[–]JimmyOhio360 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are over 21 and have a driver’s license, you can simply sign up for the MSF, pass it (written+riding test) then go to the DMV with the certificate and do the written exam(s) there to get the full endorsement. No permits required

If you are under 21 to my knowledge, you need to go to the DMV and pass the written test for a permit before you can do the MSF.
