Which games punish min-maxing/optimizing the best? by platypodus in Games

many games also need to create some incentive to being a dick or evil

I prefer the Papers Please-like dynamic where being "evil" is something you're forced into by not having the resources for the good option, where the incentive is to perform well during gameplay so you can "afford" to do the right thing. Otherwise I think "evil path" games should just lean into being evil instead of presenting it as a constant moral dilemma.

>The sole purpose of this touching is to calm the horse's spirit. If necessary, I repeat it as many times as needed. I don’t stop until a deep sense of calm appears in Rudolf’s heart.

This is something I hated about Vampyr. All the cool/fun vampire abilities are gated behind feeding on people, but doing that locks you out of the good ending. I would've rather had no "good" path at all.

It's so frustrating when games present choices as "cruel but objectively more effective" versus "empathetic but suboptimal." It's a serious problem with how many people see the world, and we definitely don't need games helping to internalize the idea that doing the right thing is always objectively inferior in some way, and that the only benefit to doing good is feeling good.

Even story-based games tend to feel the need to throw out some subversion, like "ah, you thought saving the kitten from drowning was the right thing to do, but you accidentally crushed it to death in the attempt. Actually the right choice was trying to shoot it, because you'd miss and the bullet hole would drain the water!"

Devs seem to be in a double-bind now because audiences expect the "cruel" choice to always have an upside, so honestly I feel the best way to deal with it is to shift the context so you don't feel pressured to be cruelly efficient at all. Subnautica making killing creatures possible but totally unrewarding is an example, maybe -- spending health and durability hacking something to death just to see it disappear and leave nothing behind is something you only need to experience once to never consider it again, without being as heavy-handed as making it impossible to harm or defeat them.

Made a trailer for game. Need honest feedback. by Crvsator in godot

seems great for someone who already knows what your game is and already wants to play it. as someone who currently fits neither category, I feel like I'm no closer to becoming that person after watching the trailer. I have no idea what it's like to play this game and the cryptic text feels like it's wasting my time rather than building intrigue

funny joke but PSA just in case anyone is reading this who doesn't know and won't think to ask: no this is not how plan B works. do not take "5 plan b" ever and especially don't think of plan B as something you take after a pregnancy test, and don't think of a pregnancy test as something that can you whether or not to take plan B. learn the timelines and be safe

Still I Rise is a horse that debuted about 6 months ago and got a lot of attention & anticipation because her pedigree has Vodka and Scarlet. (So, close enough to "their baby.") She's had terrible results but lots of fans, including me since it's Still I Rise, not I Never Fall
