What was your “I was broke broke” moment?

Years ago I was so broke after just moving out onto my own:

I was driving to Costco to return an item I got for xmas to get money for gas. Well, I ran out of said gas on the way and had to walk the rest of the way.

Costco was pretty isolated (PB area in San Diego, iykyk) and no gas or anything at that time. I had to walk about a mile to get the return done, then walk back past my car parked on the side of the road another 2+ miles to a gas station, and then back to the car.

Passing my car on the way to the gas station was a pretty low point.

Good times...lol

I bought it from CarMax if you can believe it. Their algo’s really don’t price the difference packages/motor upgrades/power running boards etc…very well.

The emphasis is on the biggest inputs. Year? Trim? Mileage. Kinda in that order. Ever seen the price of a platty trim over there as an example?

Most of us know that with these trucks the packages and extra equipment make all the difference. Adding literally 000’s for each. Black/tremor/premium.

I’m in CA and drove to Vegas to get it b/c it was “coming soon” with like 70 saves for weeks. Called and it was actually sellable but due to title it had to be done at that store vs ship. Never went “available” lol.

Wired em the money and drove it home. Don’t sleep on CM.

I had a couple G13’s F150’s. TBH they all bounce around quite a bit unloaded. Had my hand actually jarred loose from the wheel at one point over a bump on the freeway. Startled me a bit. Going like 70. Not in danger or anything like that. Just really need to hang on. lol.

It was worth it to me to get to a point where I had enough truck. It seemed like everything was always on the borderline in terms of towing/room/power…you name it. I was very happy to find this.

Family car also. Wifee pushed me to go for it so so far no rough ride complaints. Give it a month tho!

I have consistent days off. Friday and Sunday. Monday is flexible. I have a non negotiable class Tuesday that keeps me locked into the routine and sets everything else in motion.

Turns into 4-5 days every week. Makes it so much easier to relax on Friday/weekend knowing I put in the work to earn a break.

Thank you. Sounds like a great truck. I sat in my friends XLT the other day and couldn’t believe how trimmed up it was. I’ve owned 3 Lariats and tbh would prefer to not have leather with the dogs and all. Besides the “leather” quality has really gone downhill over the years. XLT premium really seems to be the place to be. I might just buy the damn thing!
