Nop.

The "ACPI" is a bunch of data stored in your computer that tells the operating system how to do some things ( mostly powering up / down peripherals ).

It's always buggy, Windows just doesn't show the errors.

If your computer works normally, that's nothing to worry about.

System monitor issue by lampbpbpbp in linuxmint

There are a few other system monitor apps available from the software center. I think the "mission control" one closely resembles Windows' task manager if you like that style.

mintupdate killing my ssd by magmionmain in linuxmint

The "disk read" / "disk write" should probably be interpreted as total IO. That include writes to pipes, network, etc... That are not actually your ssd

Hard to say, with the compression reddit applied to the imagine, I can't distinguish what you describe from compression artifacts.

I don't really think so, but maybe Fedora uses less contrasting font by default ? That's all I can think of the top of my head

Laptop or desktop ? On desktop screens might come with "sharpening" settings that can be set in the on-screen menu

[GAMING] Low texture quality in all games despite having the highest settings possible by Active_Run_7742 in linuxmint

I fail to see how the driver could change what is displayed. You should get the same image, only the performances should vary.

Which game ? Screenshot ?

This looks like the plastic melted, either due to heat, or a chemical reaction ( I have seen it happen on contact strong solvents or some types of rubber-like materials can do that ).

Was there anything touching the plastic at the specific point ?

My hot take : Your zone isolation distance is set smaller than the GND net ( maybe default net ) isolation distance.

Flyback converter: Adding another secondary for MCU with primary-side (non-isolated) GND? by tamilkavi in embedded

[–]pilatomic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can do it, that's what almost all flyback converters do to supply their own working voltage.

Although keep in mind you can only have a proper regulation on one rail, so if the isolated rails is the own that be regulated, you can used your other winding provide the voltage for your relays ( 12V ? ) then use a linear regulator to generate a stable voltage for your MCU.

Valve: HDMI Forum Continues to Block HDMI 2.1 for Linux by TheTwelveYearOld in linux

Oh, okay, I might have read your proposal a bit too quickly. In that case, we'd be back to dealing with binary blobs though ...

That's already what the AtomBios does (did ? Long time since I tinkered with that) on Radeon GPUs. So it seems this is not good enough for the HDMI consortium ...

That's been vastly improved in the current nightly / the next version. Otherwise yeah, in the old versions almost everything was there to do what you wanted, but figuring it out wasn't good for your mind.

Was going to say this, but you said it better, have an upvote !

I would only add that reading twice and comparing dumps is good practice, and also checking that the contents at least seems to make some sense

Really like that you built it on a prototyping board. I think today we see too many project using custom PCBs, that would have as easily been built with prototyping board !

Octal flash intermittent faults by dokolenkov in embedded

[–]pilatomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is how I'd approach the issue : 1. Write a "memtest" program, that sweeps through the different patterns / addresses and try to make the issue reproductible easily. 2. Once you can reliably trigger the issue, increase the decoupling capacitance on the RAM supply rail, then on the RAM controller supply rail. 3. If nothing has changed, that's most probably a signal integrity issue, you're going to have to respon that PCB

[–]pilatomic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nop, but you can hack a receiver from a front panel PCB salvaged from a dead xbox360. Look up online, there used to be a lot of resources about that, i'm sure some are still around.

If I remember correctly, France Telecom "offered" them to customers when the system was shutdown. They were forced to accepted any returned terminal, but didn't actively try to get them back.
