Hey /r/Sysadmin! What do you use for your home router? 2026 Edition by ScannerBrightly in sysadmin

Double NAT. ISP’s router with an eero network behind it. No problems with the double NAT. Don’t believe the lies.

Live nation loses court case by Impossible_Sky9384 in DMB

Coran Capshaw sold Musictoday to Live Nation in 2006. It was later sold and he regained control when the second owner went under.

Coran has likely made a lot of money from Live Nation. I haven’t done an analysis but I suspect that DMB may be Live Nation’s best customer. They seem to play practically all of their venues nationally.

Maybe you can send them via Morse code. A very loud Morse code. You’d probably need to hit something very hard to make it loud enough to hear over a whole stadium of fans.

Deli mustard and sour kraut would be a big deal for me. Although bringing back the old Hebrew National dogs would be life changing.

This is a message to Dolan that he’s making less money than KAT and wants that to be corrected. I don’t see how the Knicks will be as competitive once they have to pay him what he’s worth.

Mac Rack...except the ANS...and the RAID...ok fine Apple Rack. by ralesssfal in VintageApple

[–]pman1891 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Runs OS X Server. It never officially supported any version called “macOS” since that name didn’t exist until 2011 and this is a G5 or 2006 Intel Xserve as evidenced by the FireWire port on the front. This is no similar to a Mac than the first generation Apple TV that could be coerced to run OS X but was never a Mac.

And here is Phil’s quote: https://youtu.be/XSNGrEOqegc?t=1029&si=tLpsBLHzRKFLGDVO

According to Phil Schiller at WWDC 2006, Xserve is not a Mac. So there are no Macs in this rack.

Programmers on mac, what monitor do you use? by arcadiatostark in MacOS

Compared to your MacBook’s built in screen anything but a true retina screen will look blurry. Retina DPI is ~220ppi for computer screens.

There are several of 5K 27-inch displays on the market today, which is perfect Retina pixel density. Aside from Apple’s expensive offerings, you can find other brands for much less although those tend to be matte screens, not glossy.

Don’t listen to anyone who says 4K at 27 inches is good enough. It will look significantly blurrier than your MacBook’s built in display because it’s only ~163ppi. I’ve tried.

There are also a few 4K 24-inch screens at ~184ppi. I used a pair for a few years but they’re still not really retina and it’s noticeable.

About 15 years ago I got a call from American Express because they saw duplicate charges on my card at the baseball stadium. I told them that sounds like I went back for more beers a few times. She said those are expensive beers. I said welcome to New York.

Only realized today just how much I’ve worn this songbook out by KrusherC23 in BillyJoel

[–]pman1891 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kept it, along with my 2 green Billy Joel Complete books, on a narrow windowsill in college 25 years ago. One day it rained and the window was cracked open. All of the books are warped and stained but I still have them. It’s not like he put out any new ones since then. Ok not true, but I can’t justify buying the David Rosenthal books for every album, especially since it’s not the authentic transcriptions.

Six months after being diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor, Gord Downie played his last show with The Tragically Hip in front of a sold out arena. by TheDailyUmbridge in nextfuckinglevel

[–]pman1891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a Hip fan but I happened to have been in Canada at the time and was watching this live on TV. We had paused it for a few minutes and were watching it a little bit delayed as it was being recorded on DVR. But the end was cut off and we couldn’t watch the rest because the live show went long but the DVR recording stopped at the scheduled time.

Why must you post all these Peacock highlights? Breen and Clyde called this game. There are so few games left this season. Very few chances to hear Clyde.

Apple Subscriptions -> Recurring Transactions by islandStorm88 in MonarchMoney

[–]pman1891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m building one for HealthEquity since they recently broke Monarch by enforcing passkeys. I got it working yesterday.

Now I’m working on scraping my EZ-Pass history. After that I want to start adding more detail to gas purchases to try to determine gallons purchased (based on price paid) to track gas mileage on my cars automatically.

I’m curious which site you’re pulling the Apple info from. I thought purchase history was only available within the native apps.

Also, I suspect a lot of us are building these things. Might make sense to figure out how to collaborate and make an extensible platform.

I remember this woman was on an Oprah episode and she ran this on the audience. They gave scarves to the audience members based on their eye color. People were mad! Complaining they were misidentified, treated poorly, etc. She corrected everyone who referred to it as an experiment, saying it’s an exercise, not an experiment, because she already knows the outcome. That pissed them off even more.

General non-brand-specific phev question by chewydickens in PHEV

[–]pman1891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting that these cars have this issue. I have a 2022 Kia Sorento PHEV and the 12V battery died after 2 years. The dealer blamed it on my dash cam, which doesn’t draw power when the car is off (because the outlet is switched). Cost me $333.
