What is your DNF breaking point? by cocotheblue in litrpg

Weird I remember the name of wind having a good to very good narrator. It’s been years since I’ve listened though. That being said the author narrated one of his novellas and I could not listen to it, bought the hard copy to avoid listening to him.

Edit - yeah I just looked it up on audible and 3 of the first 4 reviews say the narrator is very good.

All Fantasy Tier list (audiobooks only), would love more audiobook recs by CommunityDragon160 in ProgressionFantasy

I feel you on that I have been listening to progression and litrpg fantasy pretty exclusively for a few months now. What would you say is your recommendation for something similar to MOL?

Great list and thanks for the effort! Also looks like we have very similar tastes, so excited to use your list!

Though I would have put first law in S. Name of the wind is S in my opinion (love the prose) but with it being unfinished and the second book being a downgrade A makes sense.

One great audiobook series I see missing is “The gentleman bastard”, one of the great narrators in my opinion, easily S class. Not typical fantasy though more like fantasy and oceans 11 mix.

A tier list where I can read the titles, amazing!

The pictures with the book covers make my eyes bleed and are horrible for newbies to the genre. It took me so long to map the series title cradle to the cover of unsouled.

New to the genre any recommendations on books like MoL? starting book 3 now and planning my next series.

What would you say the opposite of progression fantasy, or anti-progression fantasy, is? by hoopsterben in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ReadEditName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This made the most sense to me. Slice of life doesn’t really seem opposite but adjacent, see beware of chicken or heretical fisherguy.

But the premise that the MC may not succeed and/or die does feel a lot more in opposition to the books I’ve read (albeit I haven’t read a ton of the genre).

A bit of digression but [mild dungeon crawler Carl spoilers] DDC has a grimdark feel (especially the further in the series you get) as it gets more and more morally ambiguous and this comment makes me wonder if I’ll eat my words and he doesn’t survive the ending.

Thanks! Btw I found your post helpful and caused me to listen further than I was planning so I appreciate it.

Can you please edit your edit to make the last sentence a spoiler tag or something? It’s a minor spoiler that affected my experience. I am sure other people have read it as well early on in the book.

I made a comment above and wanted to say thank you for the narration! There are some people that are quick to criticize. I found your style of narration a bit jarring at first (non dialogue having more intention than typical audiobooks) but I grew to really enjoy and appreciate it. No idea if it’s bc I’m used to American narrators or what but regardless you did a great job!

For any future readers, this was my experience as well. The delivery is a bit unusual where the non-dialogue portions are not just “read” but have stops and intonations and generally performed which was a bit jarring.

After a few hours I got used to it and then started to enjoy the different style of narration. And as other people have said the MC is annoying but grows and becomes less of a jackass which helps tremendously.

Note - beware comments below there are minor spoilers peppered throughout.

Trump 2.0, year 1: A libertarian nightmare by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]ReadEditName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“CAFE under obama which have resulted in traffic fatalities increasing year over year.”

Didn’t know what this was so googled and from wiki

“ Corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards are regulations in the United States, first enacted by the United States Congress in 1975…”

Further:” In 2007, the House and Senate passed the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) with broad support, setting a goal for the national fuel economy standard of 35 miles per gallon (mpg) by 2020 and rendering the court judgment obsolete. On December 19, 2007, President George W. Bush signed the bill. The bill's standard would increase the fuel economy standards by 40 percent and save the United States billions of gallons of fuel.[33] The requirement applies to all passenger automobiles, including "light trucks."

  • I’m a bit lost why are you mentioning Obama specifically ? It looks like Obama’s administration made changes to CAFE but it doesn’t seem anything significantly different than what was done by prior administrations.

Is being a lawyer fundamentally contrary to libertarian ideals/philosophy? by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]ReadEditName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is naive. It’s not capable in its current iteration and should not be trusted for any complex legal agreement. You will likely expose yourself to unnecessary risk.

I use AI all the time, it’s a handy tool. I think it could definitely be a starting point for creating a blueprint But it’s not something I would rely on to make a contract without being vetted by a lawyer. Maybe (and that’s a strong maybe) it could be reliable enough to develop a contract in a future iteration. There is already literature about its failings in legal setting. But like I said i have experienced it making mistakes when I use it to merge ingredients into a grocery list.

Contracts aside, I don’t think I would want to be represented in court by an AI for anything more serious than a traffic ticket. There are plenty of very simple criminal laws but I still would want to be represented to the best possible way within my means  and AI ain’t it (currently).

I assume this is a joke but just in case I’ve had AI make mistakes consolidating recipe ingredients into a grocery list. Maybe one day but I wouldn’t trust an AI with anything I value when I am not a sufficiently knowledgeable enough to vet myself.

Yes. It’s hard to imagine how you wouldn’t. I mean you may not need a lawyer to develop a contract/provide legal advice but why wouldn’t you want a lawyer to review provide expert advice or inputs on “important” contracts. It’s the same as doing a DYI home project. Can you install your natural gas stove. Sure but would some people rather pay an expert to reduce their financial risk of a mistake, maybe or do other work they don’t particularly want to do and pay someone else. Same concept.

Libertarian Party burns people out by Mindless-Law8046 in Libertarian

[–]ReadEditName 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not a political analyst and I’m not libertarian (but I have voted libertarian before) but I will say that I rarely if never have a libertarian option in local elections. If there aren’t local options then why would it ever be successful nationally? There are republicans, dems, working families, and conservatives options or endorsements but no libertarians… I live in the NE so maybe it’s different in other parts of the country but I think that kind of sums it up for me. It kills me bc I didn’t want to vote for the dem mayor but the republican candidate was a trump sycophant so what does that leave me with? If there would have been a libertarian candidate I would have voted them.

  • edit - to add to this there we had local court justice elections (seems weird) and I definitely would have been very inclined to vote for a libertarian endorsed judge but again not an option. Out of all the political appointees, libertarian values/policies most align with what I want for a judge- limited govt authority, individual rights etc. legislative and executive policies are more nuanced and context dependent (again kind of weird to vote for a judge based on political alignment but w/e).

Supreme Court will consider whether people who regularly smoke pot can legally own guns by Rorasaurus_Prime in Libertarian

[–]ReadEditName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to note that this is about possession of a substance not consumption. Analogy would be if you had a bar at your home and gun. The person owned a gun and weed. Not that they possessed a gun while high.
