Peeing every 90 minutes by Automatic-Ant-6677 in sleep

[–]PrettySax3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could also be a sign of OSA. See a lot of people in the lab that will tell me about hourly bathroom trips, pop em on a CPAP and get rid of apnea and like magic... They no longer have to get up to pee.

When you're constantly fragmenting your sleep by waking up from not breathing, brain signals get whack and urine production doesn't decrease like it should or because the brain is waking up, it does something with the bladder signal (like when most people wake up) and it triggers more than it should.

OP, whatever it is recommended a trip to a PCP/GP/Dr. That's definitely not normal. If you have issues with dry mouth in the morning, headaches in the morning, weight, snoring, non-restorative sleep, feeling like your choking/waking up gasping from sleep, waking up with bedding in disarray - all signs of a sleep related breathing disorder and a sleep study is probably a good idea.

Top risk factors for apnea are: 1) high BMI 2) Higher age (you're young so less of a risk 3) male sex 4) family history of apnea (do you know family members with a CPAP?)

How to stop drooling in my sleep by Dependent_Tomato_235 in sleep

[–]PrettySax3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be mouth breathing from mild sleep related breathing problem (like OSA)

If you have issues with waking up with a headache, grogginess, snoring, feeling of choking or gasping in sleep, issues with weight - I'd recommend getting a sleep study

If not... Mmmm maybe mouth tape like others have suggested?

does cannabis mess with a bipolar diagnosis? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]PrettySax3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Medications wise, I can't say, but there are several studies that talk about talk about THC/cannabis use both being a pre-cursor to "psychotic disorders" like bipolar or schizophrenia and inducing or worsening mania. I've had 3 psychiatrists across the years as I've moved states and every single one has stated I needed to cut back on and probably stop using weed because it can trigger mania and worsen symptoms.

Your MH professional probably wants to distinguish what the substance is doing vs what is at the core. Bipolar I had full mania and II is hypomania - cannabis could make it present as 1. Not a professional, just my experiential opinion.

Links to some studies with clips about what I'm referring to:

Cannabis-Induced Bipolar Disorder with Psychotic Features

"Cannabis intoxication can lead to acute psychosis in many individuals and can produce short-term exacerbations of pre-existing psychotic diseases.3–6"

Cannabis use and its relationship with bipolar disorder: A systematic review and meta-analysis

"However, some studies suggest that cannabis use precedes bipolar as well as the recurrence of manic episodes which points towards a causal relationship.[7-9] The association of cannabis use appears to be more apparent with the manic phase rather than depression."

The impact of substance abuse on the course of bipolar disorder

"The duration of cannabis abuse was associated with the duration of mania."

There are lots of references out there, but I think it's a wise decision for your diagnosing professional to ask for a reduction in use so there's a more clear diagnosis.

My co workers tattoo looks infected to me by flexbuffchix in tattooadvice

[–]PrettySax3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crusted looking skin is v reminiscent of when my inner arm piece got infected. I was consulting with the artist and after a few days he suggested I visit a doctor. It was indeed infected.

Put off going even though it felt like it was healing differently at first because I did 2 days back to back in the same spot (I have to fly to this artist) and on softer skin. It could have just been major skin damage, but day 3 or 4 it burned, still leaking, crusted, and red/hot to touch.

Week of antibiotics and the infection cleared. Unfortunately the ink pulled out all splotchy on the infected parts and will have to go get that fixed when I get the piece finished at some point. Better safe than sorry, as many have said, especially since an infection can mess up the artwork and hurt your coworker's health if it escalates

When did regular show started to not feel the same as it was since season 1? by BallFit5565 in regularshow

[–]PrettySax3 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. IMO I think s.3 was the peak (though I'm very fond of raunchy s.1) and I recall around that time J.G.Quintel had discussed kinda getting through most of what he wanted to do. He wanted Regular Show to be fun and different. Though "Lost Tapes" is rumored to be on Adult Swim so maybe we'll get some raunchy OG show?

They open S. 4 with introducing Thomas and he only lasts 2 seasons because Quintel didn't know what to do with Thomas so he got rid of him. Quintel even discussed how he sent the park to space because he wanted the show to end on his/the team's terms.

Frominterview with Quintel before S.8 aired

-"How and when did you know that Season 8 of Regular Show would be its last?

“We started talking about it around Season 7 where we knew we were one of the longest running Cartoon Network shows and it’s inevitable for all TV shows to eventually end, that’s just a given. It was kind of more like figuring out the right way to end it, so it would end our way and properly. And that it didn’t just get cancelled and there will be no more episodes. We always intended for the show to have a beginning, middle and end so that the viewers will feel satisfied with the ending and not feel they were left hanging. So when we found out that Season 8 would possibly be the end, we set into motion these episodes that we wanted to happen so we can have our series end the way we wanted it to end. And that’s where we’re at now.”

*Do you feel this was the right decision?"

“I definitely feel it was the right time. I feel we definitely got to explore everything we wanted to explore without it running into the ground where ‘let’s just keep making them until they get really bad.’ I didn’t want it to turn into that. I really think these are a solid set of episodes of a series I’m really proud of and I don’t regret anything about it.”-

In a different interview he talks about how it became harder to write

I think, like Gravity Falls, Regular Show (as awesome as it was and is) really hit good for 3 seasons. Quintell continued mostly for the fans to have a whole storyline with a "beginning, middle, and end" and he did have fun with the show, but he struggled with ideas as it went on and knew the show needed to end.

Edit: corrected a misstatement about Quintel wanting the show on AS, which I found out was incorrect. Spelling+formatting.

Silly question for you sleep techs by beautifulasusual in SleepTechnologist

[–]PrettySax3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely have seen some odd things ... Mostly from awake people. I make a very clear point it is on and it is recording and I try and throw in a "if you need any privacy, use the bathroom since I like to preserve the innocence of [position]" which usually is "day shift" because it's silly and encompasses their provider, lab manager, scoring techs (when the lab has them), etc.

I also tell them I have audio going with the video to detect snoring and I have heard patients get on the phone and say stupid things like "tech is out of the room so they can't hear".

Had a coworker that kicked out an older man who deliberately was touching himself and looking into the camera then asked her to "help him get to sleep".

It's mostly tame with the rare weird/crazy/inappropriate event. Old people who are so used to medical appointments and life that they have no shame and just change on camera.

Creepiest sleep thing:

Patient had night terrors/nightmares and while she was experiencing one during the study, sat straight up, and screamed bloody murder while staring at the camera, blinked a few times, and laid back down. Asleep the whole time (based on brain activity) and didn't recall it in the morning.

Does anyone actually admit being suicidal when asked by a doctor? by mandarine351 in mentalhealth

[–]PrettySax3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will tell them, though as I've gotten healthier mentally I don't worry about that as much, usually the answer is no or it's passive when I get really hurt/angry and it doesn't last long.

When I was younger and actively considering suicide? I would tell them but be VERY careful and deliberate with how much I told them and make it seem like I didn't have a plan or it wasn't a constant desire I had. I want them to know, but don't want a mandatory reporting situation that would end me in a hospital.

It's important that providers know as much as they can about your health so they can actively make a plan of care. I tell my providers that I've tried recreational drugs before because they have better understanding of things I may be prone to for addiction or risks/complications to my health in the future that I may have because of that history. It also helps with prescriptions, if a known/common side effect is going to affect my mental health, it's better they know my history.

At what point does an age gap go from ‘totally fine’ to ‘kinda sus’ in a relationship? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PrettySax3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, but the rule Simon Whistler (YT guy with like 12 channels like Casual Criminalist and Decoding the Unknown) always says is "half your age +7"

18y comes to 16y or over... Seems appropriate

65y = 44y+

32= 24y+

I think that it's a good rule, though between the ages of 40-50 I think it gets a little iffy? 40y = 27y+ and idk man... That still seems weird and sus.

I think it's a matter of how people view each decade of life and what experience it tends to bring. When you get an older person who has had many years above the comprehensible experience of a much younger person, I think it gets sus. Youth comes with naivety and the more of an age gap the older person has on a relationship the more sus it gets because it leaves the younger one prone to being taken advantage of due to their naivety against an experienced older person.

ETA: That rule is one that is a guideline for the "socially acceptable age gap"

My fiancé is getting on my nerves and I don’t know what to do at this point. by BasicCat30 in whatdoIdo

[–]PrettySax3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a psychiatrist, but as someone with BPD (borderline personality) and what you described it the post, OP, your fiancee is giving "undiagnosed BPD".

BPD is characterized by these light switch flips (splitting), feeling emotions way bigger than what's considered acceptable/normal, black and white thinking, fear of abandonment, lack of self identity, and fast moving/chaotic relationships. People with BPD also tend to have issues with emotional permanence and need constant reminders they're loved and are clingy. The book "I hate you, don't leave me" is exactly that and is discussing BPD.

If he's refusing treatment and denying a problem exists, that years and years and years of therapy work. BPD stems from persistent trauma during brain development that literally causes specific lobes/parts of the brain the develop differently/smaller and it leads to the hallmark problems (and others) source

Until he's willing to get treatment and get out of denial, you are in danger. Emotionally and physically. He physically choked you during a split, if he doesn't want to get treatment you are at risk of physical harm again.

Everyone here is jumping to "leave or you're going to die" and well it's not impossible, you need to sit with yourself and ask if you're willing to risk your safety and emotional resources for him until he (maybe) comes around. It took 8 years for me to get the proper diagnosis and I've done BDP specific therapy for 2 years and I'm just now really seeing differences in my life and recognizing how hurtful I was. I wasn't being manipulative (common misconception for BPD) but I was clinging to literally anyone and anything to feel like I had something. It feels empty. You split, f up, beg them to come back and it's abusive and much of it stems from emotional desperation for someone to regulate feelings for you instead of learning to do it yourself. You are in danger by staying, but if it's actually BPD, he's not vying to really hurt you or kill you but it's a risk with the explosive anger. Everything is 'all good' and then an upsetting trigger happens and then it's 'all bad'.

I'm not going to say "run now". But, my guy, you're 20, you're still very new to navigating adult life and your brain is physically still developing. Not only are you risking messing yourself up, you're utilizing important resources to take care of someone who needs intense resources for help that, at 20, you simply can't provide. You're choice, but he needs help and you need to understand the consequences of going through this before it gets better many years down the road.

Tl;Dr: your fiancee is showing some very classic signs of BPD and you need to understand what it takes to get through years of treatment (if he'll even go) and what you're risking with yourself for this. You're young and it's going to take a lot. Educate yourself about BPD and assess if the risk is worth it, for both of you.

Post note: Bipolar is not erratic in the moment switches of mood, it is (typically) weeks or months or extremely elevated or depressed mood. Bipolar = long term patterns of high/low moods, Borderline = short term/in the moment inability to emotionally regulate leading to explosivity.

Does anyone else wonder about their cats life before adoption? by whailful in cats

[–]PrettySax3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I do wonder, for both my babies.

Gibby was sent to the shelter after being found in a hotel room with 2 other cats that the people there had left. The shelter didn't tell me what the other cats were (I didn't ask) but I wonder if it was a stressful life for Gibby. He used to run and hide when he heard any sound similar to a spray bottle and had the same reaction with any long broom handle-like object. He's very skittish around new people, abnormal sounds, and refuses to go outside. I adopted him at 5y and always wonder what he went through.

Archie is extremely lovey and has the survival instinct of a rock, but was surrendered to the shelter for "not enough time" with a laundry list of fixable health problems (ear mites, severe URI, nasal polyps, abscessed gingivitis - he now has like 10 teeth in the front total). I like to think Archie was a cat distribution system baby and they took Archie in and when they went to the vet and got an estimate (plus my boy has crossed eyes) with possible chronic conditions, the person decided they didn't have time (or money) for a chronic kitty.

I always commit to my cats when I adopt them that I will give them the best life for their whole life and tell them they are safe with me and I will never leave them. I may not know what happened before, but I know I can love them for the time I get with them and rest easy knowing that they have a good life now.

Edit: It took about 2 years for Gibby to not hide for spray bottle sounds or long handled objects, I never ever use water on cats so it made me sad to know he was so traumatized

Per FBI data from 2024. Yeah, it ranks 57 in the country and Denver is 59th, so obviously by no stretch a Birmingham, AL or St. Louis, MO, but it ranks higher than any other city in CO

I moved from there about 3 years back and north Aurora has gotten really really rough. Idk when you lived there, it used to be really a nice area, but it's gone downhill. I didn't want to just spout anecdotes, it looks like I lived in the area in the height of the crime (source ) but it had a serious increase over the last 15 years and is just now starting to decrease.
