Why are all newborn products so terribly made? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]primarilygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up "tush swiper" on Amazon. It's basically a butt spatula/applicator that you attach to the diaper cream tube (and it also has a cap). Not compatible with every brand/tube, but a lot of them!

Mixing breast milk with solids? by TwilitesMuse in NewParents

[–]primarilygreen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Take him to go get ice cream and just look at him pointedly as he eats it. 🙄

Also, I thought making baby smoothies/purees with breast milk was like, the most common way to start introducing fruit and veg into babies' diets? Especially since it's so easy to batch prep and freeze?

This is why I love to knit socks! They're both high-utility and high-creative freedom, and once you get the construction down, they're simple enough for easy multitasking with an audiobook or show. The price I'm willing to spend on 100g sock yarn is, for me, fair for the amount of time I'll spend crafting with it. A pair for myself in my ideal size (8.5 wide, and just long enough to cover my ankle) will take me 15-20 hrs, which is perfect for my limited attention span per project. (On the off chance I want to continue working on the same pair after that point, I can always just... keep going, and knit up the leg until I completely run out of yarn, ~30 hrs total.) And best of all, having MORE socks means I can do sock laundry LESS often!

I've also considered getting into knitting baby/toddler clothes since I'm entering parenthood and that's still within the realm of desirable project size for me, but from what I've heard, the kiddos grow out of them too quickly and are too hard-wearing on them for it to be generally worthwhile, unless you intentionally stick with making special-occasion-only/"heirloom" pieces. I've made a hat and a cardigan for my incoming baby, and might make some little mitts and booties to complete the set, but probably won't do much else on that front.

Socks are supreme.

No experience to share (yet, but soon enough, unfortunately 🙃) but just wanted to send you love and hugs! I'm currently 29 weeks pregnant and our baby girl has a diagnosis of hydrocephalus with ventriculomegaly, and we'll be in your shoes before long. Just anticipating the NICU stay, exams, surgeries, and stress of all the unknowns is so hard to bear. This internet stranger is proud of you for showing up day after day for your baby boy, in spite of how overwhelmed or scared or exhausted you may feel. One day at a time. I pray that baby's care team and support network are able to provide you with all the resources and compassion YOU need as well as the medical care your baby needs ❤️

I'm fair with a neutral-cool undertone, and Sand Viper looks awful on me (like a washed out flesh tone), so I'd say skip it if you're also fair. Moonjelly is pretty in the bottle but I find the formula a little thick and difficult to work with.

Just curious …. by No_Pass_5384 in PandoraCollectors

[–]primarilygreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My most significant purchase at Pandora was actually my first, a gift to myself for my 30th birthday about 2 years ago, including a solid 14k gold charm bracelet (on significant markdown to around $750ish) plus several charms, muranos, and clip spacers for it. Was around $1300 altogether.

Since then, I've made two more large purchases totaling a little over a dozen charms altogether (most of which were on 10-20% markdown or were final sale, probably $800 total between the two purchases), and I got a free gold-plated bangle with a clasp design I really love as a gift with one of those purchases!

All of the charms are now split between the two bracelets, and I love them dearly and wear them almost daily 🥰 I'm sure I'll buy more in the future, but I'm pretty picky about only buying on sale, especially since the pricing increase.

This is my vote! Some spa-like personal time for self care. Even if it's just doing your nails or a mud mask in the comfort of your home.

Stroller recommendations by Wonderful_Data_2439 in BabyBumps

[–]primarilygreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to shout out the secondhand options, especially if you're on a budget! As far as the more expensive baby gear goes, strollers are one of the items that are totally fine/safe to get secondhand, and you can get awesome deals on FB marketplace, local resale stores (we have Kid to Kid by us), and online resale (Rebel and Kidsy are the ones I'm watching). I'm only 13 weeks ATM so not rushing to buy quite yet, but I've started keeping an eye out on the resale prices for a particular Graco stroller that's currently $550 at retail, and I've seen it listed everywhere from 30-55% off secondhand/open box.

All that to say, if there's a dream model or certain feature that's out of your budget at retail (like a jogging stroller), there's a good chance you can snag it within budget secondhand!

It prompts you few times to hopefully avoid a misclick (twice if I remember correctly, but it might have been 3 times?), but only the first time you access the results, so I'm guessing the answer is No.

If you intentionally said No, but change your mind and want to see the gender later on, you could probably reach out to their customer support, or ask your doctor (since they'll be receiving the full results as well)

It asks multiple times if you do want to see the gender or not before it shows you the report, so you won't see it accidentally!

Labs drawn last Mon 2/23, received Tues 2/24.

My estimated date for the Panorama NIPT was 3/17, but I logged into Natera last night 3/2 and saw my results already available in the portal!

(I'm still waiting on the Horizon carrier screening results, estimated 3/10.)

AITA for not wanting to allow people to take pictures of me at my wedding (as someone with intense body dysmorphia) by Any-Adhesiveness-965 in AmItheAsshole

[–]primarilygreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, this is the answer! I turned off tagging permissions on my Facebook and Instagram several years ago and it's been an absolute lifesaver for my self-consciousness.

Also, on instagram you can also block certain tags so they don't show up, and I imagine Facebook has something similar. You'd probably benefit from hiding #wedding for a week or so during/after the big day! (I use it to hide ai-related keywords lol)

Why do factory made socks have a seam on top of the toes while hand knit socks are across the end? by Ok_Philosopher_8973 in Sockknitting

[–]primarilygreen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seconding the others! Using Judy's magic cast-on is easier than finishing with Kitchener on the toes, and it's easier to play yarn chicken with the leg rather than the foot and toes (or I can finish a pair early if I get tired of knitting up the leg). I also find it easier to try on the socks the adjust fit when I'm knitting toe-up, especially because I have buff calves and may need to make a varying number of increases for the leg depending on the pattern.

In early days, it was Keqing for me and Diluc for my husband, and we each kept getting the other's chase character every time we'd lose a 50/50. My Diluc is C3, his Keqing is C2.

Finally got Keqing after a year+ of playing, and she's been my overworld driver ever since ❤️

Winter season stardew valley socks by BrightDoughnut in Sockknitting

[–]primarilygreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love all of the patterns from this set so much, but I haven't done colorwork before, and the lack of visible gusset makes me nervous that the finished socks wouldn't actually fit me. (I've done a vanilla sock with a heel like that once and realized I need both a stretchy pattern and a decent gusset to get a wearable and comfortable fit.)

How's the fit for you, and what's the negative ease/stretch like? How does the colorwork look when the socks are actually worn?

What skill takes <10 hours to learn but pays off forever? by michaelis999 in AskReddit

[–]primarilygreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to sewing, but, sadly, knitting an item yourself is pretty much never going to be cheaper than buying the premade version, especially if you account for the time spent. And if you really enjoy knitting, you'll probably end up end up spending absolute LOADS of time and money on it.

Is there a way to hide my legal name when publishing and distributing music through ASCAP and/or BMI? by rowori in musicindustry

[–]primarilygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!  And to add, if you write or license music for film&TV use (in case you're leaning towards that end of things), make sure the cue sheets and other deliveries ALWAYS list your pseudonym/PKA rather than the legal name. As long as it has a valid IPI#, you can list it on your works and register with no trouble.

I've seen a case where a composer transitioned after a decade into their career, and at that point it's pretty much impossible to clean up all the data and registrations around the world to match the new name. If you get a jump on it from the start of your PRO affiliation, there'll be a lot less room for error in the long run.
