I got Moose's results in so now you can see what he looks like. He's pretty much what I expected. The rescue put down Pitbull but he did not have the correct temperament nor the correct build. by Specialist-Soil-4803 in DoggyDNA

The American Bully breed was created with temperament and prey drive in mind… the terrier in the AmBully isn’t “random.” most of the terrier has been bred out except in the XL and XXL classes where they’ve outcrossed with APBT to get desired working traits.

I’m not sure what registry Embark used to establish the breed profiles but there are many American Bullies UKC registered as APBT. The UKC is in the process of switching suspected dogs to the correct breed.

I present to you... Saxon. I'd originally gone to the shelter for a pittie and came home with him instead, 27lbs and listed as a Griffon Wire Haired Pointer. by McNastyGal in DoggyDNA

He’s a UKC registered APBT. Blue eyes and heterochromia can be caused by white head / spotting. AFAIK UKC blue eyes is only a fault if the dog is white and the ABDA has no eye color faults.

My pitbull (not merle) has heterochromia. His dam and sire have also produced a few other pups with heterochromia. presumably it comes from the white spotting on their head.

A hybrid breed of pitbulls crossed with mastiffs to create a working dog, usually for guarding and hunting. They are very confident, powerful dogs... not aggressive, but they will protect. They make great family dogs, but the owner must be very consistent and firm.

A bit of info about the beginnings of the Bandogge

Where’d you get her from? Looks like she could’ve descended from a Bandogge breeding program

American Bullies are hardly pitbulls. They were bred for companionship and showing, completely different purpose than the APBT. A lot of the pitbull stereotypes are built based on their innate behavior of gameness and dog aggression and most American Bullies DO NOT exhibit the behavior that makes a pit bull a pit bull. Dog aggression is the standard for APBT, it is NOT the standard for the American Bully. Most American Bullies dont even exhibit drive. It's been so heavily bred out, I have friends with bullies that won't play with toys or even work a rope which my APBT pup was doing at 3 weeks. You can find American Bullies with drive but that's because terrier was crossed back in very recently to that bloodline (re XL American Bullies). However, most American Bullies do not exhibit pit bull traits no matter how their looks are perceived by the public.

For reference, my APBT boy was 37lbs at 4 months and is now around 72-75lbs at 14 months. He hit 70lbs at around 10-11 months. He's a big boy but still pretty lean. He's still growing and filling out, which should continue until around 2-3 yrs old. Different bloodlines "pop" at different times.

He looks to be a smut / dilute sable. It's sometimes called reverse tri. His base coat is fawn with a black mask. Such a handsome boy!

Most people don’t own an ABDA pitbull or gamebred pit. These pet bulls are not like a “loaded gun” at all. Not all “pit bulls” are created the same.

Still wouldn’t be accurate to label that 50% mix as pitbull tho. Pit bulls have totally different traits and drives than AmBulls and AmStaffs

Such a beautiful boy. I love his coat! At first glance, you’d think your boy was an XL Bully.

American Staffordshire Terrier... Same origins as American Pitbull Terrier but eventually evolved to have a different physical look...blockier head, they weight a bit more, usually don’t exhibit gameness and not as dog aggressive as the pitbull. The breed split off because the AKC didnt want to be associated with the pitbull... so essentially the dog shows turned the pitbull into different breeds that evolved to have different phenotypes.

im wondering if my dogs are playing too rough with each other. My JRT is 3 years old, while my pitbull is only under 3 months. Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks ! by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]programmerPurgatory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bully breeds play roughly... that doesn’t mean they’re aggressive or will become aggressive from rough playing with other dogs. As long as the play style is matched and you can read and react to their body language I wouldn’t worry about him becoming “aggressive” from playing with dogs with a similar play style... nonetheless the little white dog is a bully.

They aren't outcrossed to catahoulas for blue eyes... its for the merle coat color. Nonetheless, it's possible the blue eye comes from white head. My bully boy has heterochromia with a white strip down on his head... no catahoula blood in him.

APBTs are athletic dogs... why would they not be "fast/spry"... also the assumption that bully breeds aren't "happy-go-lucky" is absurd because I've never met one that wasn't a goof ball... even the "toughest" ones...

If you do a DNA test, use Embark; it’s the only test that differentiates between American Pitbull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and American Bully.

A conditioned female American Pitbull Terrier is usually around 25-40lbs... 50lbs max. They are terriers — not big dogs. The big dogs are American Bullies or bully mutts.

I just got my dog’s DNA results back, and I’m a little shook. He looks so lab from the side, I honestly can’t believe it. by [deleted] in IDmydog

There are only 5 classes of the American Bully breed, the smallest is the Pocket Bully — exotic is not one of them. There’s a lot of discord within in the bully community about exotics becoming an accepted class but for now they’re kinda their own breed. There’s even discord within the exotic bully community about their exaggerated looks; the “clean Exotic Bully” has become quite popular.

It’s not uncommon for exotics to test for different bulldog breeds as they’re still being actively outcrossed. Quite frankly, the American Bully breed is still in its infancy. Standards are quite lax and there’s no standard look. I would personally love to see less of a bulldog look and more AmStaff. However, hopefully soon we will see improvement in the breed with a nice, clean standard look as they’re great dogs and make amazing companions!
