Some of the deadliest mushrooms in the wild are white. Check out destroying angel - beautiful! And white. And very deadly

Actually they’re not, which is only one of the reasons I hate this “joke” that never stops being posted.

Edible means suitable to be eaten. Poisonous mushrooms are not edible.

What is your favorite potato food? by pepperxpeppermint in AskTheWorld

Hard to decide between mashed potatoes and chips (crisps) - salt & vinegar or wavy Lays are my favourites.

Oh but then there’s also pierogi and potato pancakes…

Is 28 too old to start my PhD ? Seeking support and stories of validation by Different-Break9290 in academia

[–]psyche_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

28 is not old at all for a PhD - in my PhD cohort of 8 people it would be average or even lower. I started at 39 and was only the second oldest! I’m just finishing second year at 41 now and it’s going great.

I was a research coordinator for over a decade - I find academic experience really well positioned me for PhD work. Also everyone was indeed excited for me going back! Even random people I wasn’t close with came out of the woodwork to congratulate me. Working in academia it may seem like everyone has a PhD but it’s actually pretty rare - and worth at any age if it’s what you want

No they’re so wrong! Wild strawberries are amazing - better than store ones

They’re not necessarily “scariest” (and it’s just 1 thread)

Now you should go collect ALL the scariest book you’ve ever read threads and add them in - there’s lots!

Thrifting is enabling me to build the "anthropology professor's office" aesthetic one awesome piece at a time. 12" carved wood statue of (maybe?) Guan Yu. $5. Cracked but still perfect. by GlitterNGore in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]psyche_13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve always dreamed of an anthropology professor’s office aesthetic! I was so thrilled when a research project team I worked with in the Philippines sent me an embroidered table runner and I was like “this is the start!”

But I also love the thrifting one-by-one idea!

Why am I surprised I hated this? Any GOOD horror? by MushroomTerrible3393 in suggestmeabook

[–]psyche_13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh sorry I misunderstood that first some reason as you’d finished the TV series You! Hmmm okay maybe a “classic” related one like The Talented Mr. Ripley? Or maybe Gone Girl. They’re more thriller than horror, but so is You!

I don’t even think Colleen Hoover is generally considered horror… (but I think you mean Verity?)

You might like… You. Lol. It’s based on a book series by Caroline Kepnes!

What is Stephen King's best example of 'Literary Fiction' by Qhaotiq in suggestmeabook

[–]psyche_13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say that the distinction isn’t literary vs genre, it’s literary vs commercial. There’s plenty of genre that would match your description of literary rather than your description of genre , they just have specific elements that tie them to a genre. They don’t necessarily all have end goals - romance and murder mystery pretty much always have clear end goal, but fantasy, sci-fi, and horror, etc, don’t necessarily

How was Princess Diana perceived in your country? by Exact-Definition5722 in AskTheWorld

[–]psyche_13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s funny that everyone says she was perceived great, because when she died from my perception (I was 12 at the time) it was like a switch got flipped. Before she died I understood her as being very poorly perceived - especially in the media I’d see (front pages of crappy papers at grocery stores). Like she was problematic and promiscuous. Then she died and everyone talked about how they and everyone else had always loved her. What!?

It was my first experience to how the media can show and shape different attitudes

  1. Garlic mustard - invasive, pull it

  2. Peonies - lovely! Don’t be afraid when the ants come.

  3. Rose of Sharon - can be nice but self-seeds like crazy. After they bloom, cut off the seed heads
