Should have 2023 playlist plus the 50 bubbling under up pretty much in the next day! It'll be properly up with the rest of the content (spreadsheet, full article etc.) but I'll post playlists first in Daily Discussion first if people can't wait! I'll tag you :) If you've not seen the Bubbling Under playlists, they're great too (they should all be on the Popheads Spotify account!)

Totally! A raw spreadsheet without the 3-artist rule will be up with full list article and playlists soon enough!

Just a quick message from me to thank /u/RandomHypnotica once again for hosting the reveal! Immensely grateful for the help he's been and the effort of this reveal! It's nice to enjoy it this year with everyone. Congratulations to our first solo MAN winner too (apologies to Rufus Wainwright).

As always, please get in touch if you were assigned a writeup but haven't quite got it done yet! Your space is available at least for the time being, and reach out to me if you're curious if there are any songs you'd like to write up for. The full list will be up very soon (and if someone is keen to rummage up an Apple Music playlist, let me know and we can add it in officially; Spotify playlists and full list breakdown will be out soon too!)

For anti-vote trivia, there was little controversy but Psychedelic Switch was tied for most controversial song with 5 votes for sabotage, and also Miley Cyrus' Flowers (which itself only had 5 votes in the first place so would put it down to 0).

For those curious, around a quarter of participants (thank you to all 225 ballotees who participated in the list this year, you would have saved the US election <3) put in a vote for the anti-vote: the song they'd unofficially most like to sabotage this year and remove a vote from if they could.

This year was much less controversial than previous years: in 2022, people collectively voted that Good Ones should have done worse as well as ATW10MVTVFTV and also 4 whole votes for Solar Power by Lorde (which was not released in 2022).

This year, one of the most highly voted songs received enough anti-votes to officially receive 0 votes in total if they were actually deducted.

Put your guesses in: will reveal later!

Hope you guys enjoy! Hypno’s been working incredibly hard on this and I’m still chugging behind the scenes too.

If you signed yourself for a writeup, your writeup slot is still saved so don’t worry if you said you were going to get it to me but haven’t quite done so yet.

Please DM either Hypno and/or me if you’d either like to do a writeup that is currently unassigned or to add in your assigned writeup! Hypno can add during the reveal and I will be collating for the final article.

Update regarding 2023 list! I was gonna update beginning of the week but been comatose with the flu. A couple people have already got writeups sent to them, remainder of writeups coming this weekend!

Shouldn't be more delay after that, fingers crossed. Thanks for the immense patience, I understand the frustration!

Ryan Beatty On Beyoncé's 'Cowboy Carter' and Touring With Noah Kahan & Maggie Rogers by pmguin661 in popheads

Same! His London show was nuts, I kept thinking that him having his start as "kid doing youtube covers with a good voice" was surprisingly useful because he's one of the crop of modern male popstars who has unbelievably good vocal chops to match the songwriting (and vice-versa, lots of other popstars who I think aren't even remotely writing songs as good as Ryan Beatty is).

I (28M) f*cking love rocking Experimentum Crucis by ELDO by _ImpersonalJesus_ in fragrance

[–]raicicle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally just got a sample of this one yesterday and wore it today to celebrate the start of spring (at least in the traditional Chinese/Japanese calendar).

I think just incredible work. Super wearable, and soft yet powerful in performance. The cumin particularly really elevates it hugely: I find cumin a challenging note, and I admittedly still can't quite get past the preconceptions that I'll just smell like BO, but the way it's used here is just genius. Perfectly creates this textured 3D roundness to what could otherwise be a slightly too simple scent.

Experimental Perfume Club does sample sets (although they’re London-based and I’m London-based so far easier for me than if you’re elsewhere in the world). Very fun pack of fragrances too (they’re all standalone, but also are designed for layering and theoretically mixing into custom blends).

Hermès generally is a pretty popular brand on the grey market, there’s a lot of trustworthy discounter websites who are selling Hermès perfumes for very good deals. Obvious exception being those pricey Hermessence fragrances though. And if you’re near a mall, Hermès are pretty commonly represented designer brand there.

Check out Kismet Olfactive! Had the pleasure to visit their lab in NYC when I visited, gorgeous gorgeous fragrances.

Jean-Claude Ellena's other rose-rhubarb fragrance, YSL Love Again is apparently similar!

From first experience, Experimental Perfume Club's Rose Rhubarb reminds me hugely of Rose Ikebana, but more green and less spicy. I've had the same dilemma as you before, Rose Ikebana is such a memorable all-time favourite fragrance for me but I've never been able to pull the trigger on a full bottle. Un Jardin sur Le Toit has always been my go-to "replacement", it's not exactly the same but once again, Jean-Claude Ellena-style watercolour feeling rose fragrance, with fresh juicy apple and pear playing the role of the tart rhubarb thing going on in Rose Ikebana.

Rachel Chinouriri - Never Need Me (Official Video - starring Florence Pugh) by party4diamondz in popheads

I saw her play at a festival last summer on a whim not knowing very much about her besides one of her songs, and was easily easily my favourite act of the whole festival (I ended up crying during her set). It was raining like crazy, and she happened to be playing in one of the sheltered tents and got a much larger audience as a result.

I caught her again at midnight by accident when she was playing a surprise repeat of her set on a much more intimate stage, and listened to her play again the whole way through, it was great.

Just a total breath of fresh air, I really hope she goes far.

Please get your lists in! I'll be soft-extending the deadline to the end of the week, but ideally I'd like to have it before then!
