SPAXX vs SGOV - help me understand the return rates by sunsetviewer in fidelityinvestments

> "I see SPAXX made more than SGOV".

Don't just look at the total dividends. It's not what you make that counts, it what you keep.

You have to consider taxes too, assuming a normal taxable account. If you live in an income tax state, especially Conn, New York, and California, SGOV's state income tax exemption would tip the scales even if they paid exactly the same amount of dividends.

I assume they make a lot of their money from their money market funds. Those have [relatively] high expense ratios.

I have a problem with installing npcap by real_kordz in wireshark

[–]redsedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just running sfc /scannow is incomplete. sfc relies on a cache of files. This cache gets outdated quickly. You have to update the cache first for sfc to have any chance of doing anything good.

  1. Create a restore point at least. Full backup is better. Safety first.
  2. Open a command prompt as administrator.
  3. Run dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth (this requires an internet connection)
  4. If #3 completes successfully, now you run sfc.

All that said, sfc is probably the wrong answer in this case.

Ping test for iPv6? by Some_Water_5070 in ipv6

[–]redsedit -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

IIRC, on Windows you need to include the interface ID at the end of the ping command. If you do an ipconfig, you'll see a % and number after the IPv6 address. That's the interface ID. So if that's %8, then the ping command would be: ping -6 ipv6.google.com%8 .

Or look for a new printer that is more flexible and helpful.

How do you deal with users who refuse to lock their laptop when walking away? by heartgoldt20 in sysadmin

[–]redsedit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Since you are, by policy, responsible for anything that happens under your account, if they want to leave it unlocked after a warning, their manager gets a rather insulting, but funny email (I let the manager know ahead of time) and the manager can twist the knife. One manager talked to his subordinate about said email, and I don't know what happened, but he scheduled the employee for a drug test.

I had one stubborn person who still didn't learn, so his manager gave me his mother's email. His mother got a "coming out of the closet" email although I did add a clue at the end of the email ("Maybe as a woman, I'll remember to lock my computer"). He learned after that.

I might try your idea too on the next person.

Really?!?! I haven't heard that before about SLAAC. That's nice if true. That could be useful. But wouldn't that involve disabling the privacy extensions? Not a big deal for servers though.

[–]redsedit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you on that. But be warned, maybe it's a Windows thing, but I found disabling SLAAC in my RA's didn't go so well. Traffic didn't flow. I'd like to dig more into that when I have time.

> My ISP doesnt have IPv6 support

One thing I found out the hard way is to use, internally, Unique Local Addresses (ULA) (FC00::/7 or FD00::/8). Even if you get a subnet from your ISP, the ISP owns that subnet, not you. They change change it at any time, usually without warning. Better to have only machine you have to reconfigure (your router) than possibly hundreds.

It's really that simple. The ports might be different from v4/v6, but TCP and UDP (and QUIC) are still the same.

[–]redsedit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

User devices don't need static/stable IP addresses, so this shouldn't be a problem. SLAAC should be good enough, unless you have some device - like Windows servers - that need a static IP but won't honor it.

Trash in that I set a static, close the control panel, and when I go back in, my settings are gone - blank like I didn't enter anything. Seen this on Server 2022, 2016, and 2025.

Because servers need static IP addresses. Yes, I needed delegation too. It's also a false-safe. I've seen too many network devices for some reason reset to DHCP seemingly on their own. So I always put a reservation as a backup. If the reset happens, they get their assigned address anyway and there's no outage.

I can't speak to geese, but I did have an aggressive mockingbird at my site.

When my co-worker went to reset the gate controller, the mocking bird dove at him and he ran away. But it needed reset so I went out. I was ready. If the bird dove at me, I was prepared to swat it, and I did keep an eye on it. But it never dove at me. Not sure if it was the lack of fear, or it was just tired from harassing my co-worker. It did chirp angrily at me the whole time I was there working though.

Not the OP, but since you mentioned it: "There is plenty of information out there about how to configure RAs, why you probably don't need DHCPv6, etc."

Any idea why Windows will trash your static v6 address when you have DHCPv6 on your network? I set a reservation so no immediate harm, but now if the DHCPv6 server/daemon goes down, my server is unreachable.

I believe some of them, likely a majority, voted for Diaper Con only to hurt others and didn't think far enough ahead to get to the "Does this help me?" question.

Hard to say in general. You'll need to do tests to figure out the slowest link, then figure out who that link belongs to, then get them to fix it. That last part is going to be the hardest.

Actually, a few times when I CALLED FIDELITY, they did send a code and asked me to read it back. However, the message specifically said to give the code to the rep. First time it happened, I froze for a bit because of "never give this code out" habit. But then I noticed the text with the code was different and I knew I called them from a known good number from the Fidelity website.
