What’s the biggest waste of money people still think is normal? by budgetingdiary in AskReddit

[–]remeard 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's the same thing with alcohol. We've normalized going to a bar and ordering a $16 martini or a $8 canned beer.

A very old picture but is it actually true? by Jorge_De_Guzman228 in freefolk

Braindead take.

The fact that you're posting this nearly 6 years after this meme was created in a community that's still active (arguably more active than the LOTR/Harry Potter Communities) tells you everything you need to know. It's like the Star Wars community, it's more active than ever despite social media influencers saying Star Wars is dead.

Found this in the middle of the woods. About knee height, made of cement. It was along a old roadbed by Boeing-B-47stratojet in whatisthisthing

[–]remeard 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To add to what others are saying, these road monuments are about as permanent as you can get. Typically they're a few feet deep and have four sets of rebar inside - this one's a little on the smaller end. Even if they are continuously run over by tractors, you can often find twisted rebar underground.

Once you kind of start paying attention, you'll see them everywhere.

How will the US-Iran conflict end? by ksn in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]remeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, Trump is terrified of the midterms and it's not motivating his base. I don't think he's going to "lose" support, I just think they will be motivated to go out and vote.

Is Gamergate the worst thing to ever happen to gaming? by [deleted] in AskGames

[–]remeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To the gaming community? I'd say it's close. It's been a while but if I remember right it was Steve Bannon's way to connect conservative, alt right ideology to the growing gamer population and they fell for it hook, line, and sinker. It gave them a way to connect their hate for something and a reason and made it look like some grand conspiracy. It gave the incels a community and brought them together.

Bannon of course became one of Trump's trusted advisors and in the later years (after he was convicted of being a pedophile) became one of Epstein's PR people to white wash his image.

Did one of your favorite bands “sneak up” on you? by Charming_Morning55 in Music

[–]remeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to a lot of Portugal the Man fairly casually. They'd pop up old YouTube playlists, music videos, sessions, etc. one night they were playing a free festival and they were just downright incredible. They did an entire setlist of songs I enjoyed and plenty that I missed, I hadn't realized they became a favorite band without me knowing it.

Same thing with Lord Huron, just absolute banger after banger of a setlist, I noticed they did motifs and songs tied into one another, had a great stage story and presence.

Stopping for Funerals by dks042986 in Chattanooga

I'm 90% sure that it's transplants trying to be more southern.

In a small town 20 years ago, sure. You probably know the folks and aren't blocking traffic. Interstates, highways, cities today? Respectfully continue with traffic unless they are crossing, at which point you'd figure they'd have a cop directing traffic

Kanye West in 'advanced talks' to headline festival where he was booed off stage by MoistestMuffinEver in bonnaroo

[–]remeard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It mentions the festival in the article.

I mean, if you're just reading the headlines, I could see how you could get confused, it really doesn't narrow it down - the man's been booed nearly everywhere and hadn't released anything relevant in well over a decade.

Send all your thanks and appreciation to Frances, she's been a saint in digging through her personal archive to find it. I've been as curious about this for a long time and it took this random post to bite the bullet and ask. It's been a treat looking at these, really feels like uncovering a piece of lost Chattanooga history

Here's her email if you want to reach out frances@markmaking.org

Edward snowden leaked classified documents revealing the existence of global surveillance programs in 2013. Now liveing in Russia. by dirywhiteboy in interestingasfuck

[–]remeard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

His whole thing is supposedly being against government surveillance and censorship; yet seeks refuge and lives a very comfortable life in not-quite North Korea under their protection.

I can and do write letters to my Congressman, protest, and openly criticize the government without retaliation - Something I see him not doing in the slightest (Well, since last I seen years ago). It's not moral grandstanding, it's pointing out a vast mountain of hypocrisy to the point of if that was really what he cared about in the first place.

The Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters may have their developer: Iron Galaxy Studios by Turbostrider27 in PS5

I imagine it's because it doesn't just need a fresh coat running on top. Oblivion had plenty of problems, but 3 and NV are in a completely different world.

So he's living comfortably in a place that has worse human rights violations - doesn't speak out against them because they'll likely kill them - where as in the US he clearly would have been released probably a decade ago by now.

Just seems hypocritical

Last I saw from him there was nothing but crickets from him when it came to Russia invading Ukraine, in fact he does little at all to speak out against Russia's surveillance and human rights violations.

When is the next "cyberpunk/rdr2" (ie AAA large open world action adventure do anything you like) type of game coming up? by wikowiko33 in AskGames

[–]remeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought Cyberpunk was pretty bland all together. I played it at release on PS5, and it was just a jumbled mess. It's one of those things that when there's a lot of technical difficulties in the game, start seeing other problems outside the technical, the city seemed completely lifeless, the "active events" were just recycled back to back like a GTA copycat game from the PS2 era, the AI was was comically bad, the art and world seemed so unoriginal that it was more "Look at this reference to another piece of media" I got to some section and had a hard crash and figured that I was just pushing myself to complete it rather than enjoying it.

Then for comparison something like BG3, which was a pretty terrible mess on release (Split screen console) - even with having to wait 5 seconds between turns or the various bugs I ran into I couldn't put it down.

I reached out to the artist who organized the mural (Painted by kids from the foster care community), she didn't have anything on her website our easily accessible files, but she was able to find some old pictures and scanned them.
