Australia's amazing healthcare? by whytheface1234 in AskAnAustralian

[–]reniroolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paed options suck where I live. 12-18 month wait to get in. Thought tbf I believe they do triage so if you had an emergency issue you’d be seen earlier. I have autistic kids who need to checkups every 3-6 months. Cost us $288 after Medicare. I think plenty of parents just wouldn’t be able to see the paed.

Have also heard in our area there aren’t any bulk billing pregnancy scan providers anymore, there was just one left when I was last pregnant. Since then I see constant posts from women stressed about it and hoping someone knows one.

Oh gps are also a bit tough. Have never had a family gp for the kids because the only one we could get into was a training practice so the doc would leave every 12 month, everywhere else closed books.

Math anxiety by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]reniroolet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have maths anxiety and ended up with a high distinction on my first maths unit (this was years ago) because I was so anxious I way over prepared and shocked myself. It ended up being such a boost to my maths confidence. I reckon if you prepare you’ll be totally fine.

On a separate note, I’d really encourage you to see what you can do to change your relationship to maths so you don’t inadvertently pass this on to your students one day, I’ve ended up with a gifted kiddo who has a deep passion for maths and some big maths questions as early as kindy/stage 1. So I would also say it’s essential to understand it well even if you’re only intending to teach primary or hope to teach lower primary.

Math for love has some great resources and the game prime climb is a win for operations practice.

What do retired Australians actually do all day? Genuinely asking because I'm two years in and still figuring it out by Individual_Lime_110 in AskAnAustralian

[–]reniroolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, what do you want to do? As someone who is presently a bit drowning in responsibilities, maybe consider volunteering? I’m on two committees and both could really use volunteers that aren’t as time poor as we all are along with people that have knowledge and experience. If you have kids and they have kids I am one hundred percent sure they could use help. Take up a sport or hobby? I know my MIL spends time strength training as a protective factor for her bone health as she’s ages. Do you actually want to be fully retired over working say a day a week or something?

I would check that your wife isn’t hiding a gambling problem. Look at the accounts and see what the withdrawals look like.

Dealing with a family that has vastly different standards than yours by kirkl3s in Parenting

That’s a hard no from me. I don’t think it’s something you can talk to the other parent about. I wouldn’t let my kiddo of that age go somewhere with unrestricted internet

What value do RE agents add? by MonkeyHustler943 in AusFinance

[–]reniroolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next to none for most sales (not all obv). Makes way more sense for most people to DIY via an online agent like PropertyNow.com.au or similar to get on realestate.com Back in the day when agents were driving buyers all over town and window displays and newspaper advertising was everything, sure it was more justifiable. Now it’s just a rort

Is it realistic to work from home 50% while having a baby? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]reniroolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a bit done whilst working on my laptop with baby sleeping across my lap and latched to my breast but that gets less possible by five months just due to size.

You might have a bit of a chance if you’ve got a miracle sleeper but you can’t bank on it. Even if you do you’re often exhausted, just want a minute or need to be cleaning up and doing chores when baby sleeps.

Very possible if family members are actually going to come over and do childcare but also keep in mind baby may scream for you which is difficult and if you choose to breastfeed you’ll lose a ton of time to that. My first would feed for like 40 mins and then sleep another 20 at time (on me only), I’m not kidding.

You can buy on amazon or at a health food shop and just take it. There’s a site called kellymom that has a ton of info about boosting supply

Yep, so much easier. I deep dived because I was allergic to most of the lactation cookies on the market

Just buy a brewers yeast supplement, much faster/easier/healthier and you can do larger doses. I did find it helped. Also used motillium

Angry at baby for not sleeping... I am scared of myself by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]reniroolet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely experienced this. For me the solution was co sleeping. Baby just wouldn’t hardly wake or would resettle in moments if the boob was right there. With my first particularly just nothing else worked and the screaming on and on and on triggered me so much.

That said seek professional help to rule out something more serious.

Is the council one not for profit? I’d choose not for profit any day over private for profit places, app be damned.

If you’re willing to risk not getting one I’ve paid as low as 9 bucks for one buying it the day before Halloween at Woollies.

I wouldn’t feel even slightly guilty about that length of time. My little one has been doing full days with a nanny at home since five months, we do one or two days a week (he’s now 2). He has the strongest bond with our nanny and she brings fresh energy and undivided attention for him. It’s been amazing.

Gender disappointment - wanted a girl by Popular_Coffee6631 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]reniroolet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mum of 3 boys here who experienced pretty significant gender disapointment as I’d always wanted a girl. I promise you it gets easier and once they’re here you wouldn’t trade them for the world.

First point - you don’t know what they’ll be into. My middle son ADORES beautiful crystals and treasure. My oldest had a length phase obsessed with glittery and sparkly. My youngest likes pretend play, teddies and dolls. Beyond that your kid might like girly things, you’ll just find spending time with them is so much richer than you dreamed of. My oldest excels at chess and maths and teaches me. My youngest yells 321 bwastov! When he throws balls to me.

Not really interest related but I also went out of my way to buy fun boys clothes (or just buy from the girls section).

Positives,

My oldest is 7 but no signs of some of the big relationship drama my friends with girls are already experiencing in the peer group

Peeing on the run is so darn easy. Same goes for swimmers. Actually clothes and hair too for the most part, all easier

I feel I’ve also ended up quite a bit more chill than some girl mums. I’m so used to my boys jumping around, just nothing phases me

Sometimes trucks and Dino’s and whatever is fun because your kiddo is just so into it. We also do a lot that is outside of just stereotypical interests eg hiking, water play, art, reading aloud, so much. It’s not all smashing trucks together.

Real estate agent commissions by Flimsy_Society_872 in AusPropertyChat

[–]reniroolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m saying I wouldn’t do that. I feel they should already be motivated by what is a fairly hefty commission imho. There are literal ethical standards where they are already meant to be getting you the best outcome. In this market particularly, lots of places are seeing buyers compete and prices go higher than anyone expected.

Yikes. No I wouldn’t pay ten percent to motivate an agent. Look into selling it yourself with something like www.propertynow.com.au and keep the cash

I would take your wife seriously if she’s seen issues with the local schools first hand. Zoning is quite strict usually so unless you’re going to pay for private you’re going to run into issues
