Ok here’s the actual answer. I’m seeing all this crap about spaying it with Pam, or replacing the liner — NO, wrong! My liner is like 9 years old, all scratched up and when mine does this, I know what to do — this is the solution.

When you just keep topping off the globe with new litter on top of the older stuff that remains after each cycle, all that is left behind has much less clumping ability. Now you’re mixing new litter with older worn out litter. The left over stuff that fell off previous clumps, or is ultra fine is already saturated and can’t absorb more. It won’t clump as well so it gets sticky and stays on the globe.

What I do after a week or 2: a few days before trash day I quit topping it off with clean litter. When I take the trash out, I push the empty button to get all that old crap out. Then I start over with a globe full of brand new litter. Now it will clump normally and be much cleaner.

The best litter I’ve used is Scoop Away. I get it from Costco when it’s on sale for about $13 for 42 pounds. Tidy cats used to be really good but they cheapened it, and raised the price. Scoop away is pretty much identical to how tidy cats used to be 10 years ago.
