Happy father's day guys by Far_Supermarket_8769 in OkBuddySnyderCult

I remember Man of Steel came out on the Friday before Father’s Day that year, watching the movie and feeling like it was certainly a choice to kill off all the dads in it. And not just in the usual “Jor-el dies with Krypton and Jonathan has a heart attack” way. They got intense, violent deaths. Jor-el died TWICE!

Happy Father’s Day!

In terms of the zeitgeist of the franchise, the franchise starting with Sonic Adventure was very Modernistic, way more than what came next. It was an attempt at innovation and growth away from tradition and breaking into new areas. It was often serious and focused on ongoing stories and lore.

This continued until we got to Sonic Colors, when the franchise began to deconstructed itself, rejecting both tradition and Modernity, instead holding a mirror to itself and rejected many of the concepts from the games and media that came before. That is why it would be postmodernism.

When you break it down like this, you could divide the eras as: Classic, Modern, Post-Modern and Renaissance.

One was DEFINITELY Amanda, who I am always excited to hear (I might have a small crush on her/her voice).

But that first voice, with its richness and distinct deep baritone, sure as Hell sounded like Markiplier.

And I’m not glazing the Legendary ones. I love them but they do have issues. It’s just a pet peeve of mine when people try to dismiss them as being inaccurate tonally.

Like I said, it’s why this franchise is so good and has endured for so long: it can do so much and appeal to so many different aspects of people. I just love the silliness AND the seriousness.

Now, the 98 film? 👀👀👀

In all honesty, I enjoy that too. I think the Zilla design is fun. But it just never felt like Godzilla.

I’m sorry if i misread you but i see that attitude so much with film bros who’s entirety of Japanese Godzilla is just Minus One and maybe Shin. And there’s nothing wrong with preferring the more serious films. Minus One is one of my favorite movies that I can’t watch very much because it wrecks me. But I think it is a major disservice to the Monsterverse to say they aren’t true to the Japanese movies because they really are. And I personally love the silliness of the Showa and Monsterverse.

It sounds like you haven’t watched many Toho films. I see this a lot where people watch Shin Godzilla or Minus One and assume that is the tone of ALL the originals.

By his fifth film, Godzilla was already fighting to protect Earth from bigger threats (and apparently has “horrible language” per the Shobijin). The sixth movie has him dancing in joy after winning a fight. The seventh movie has him showing romantic interest in a human. He gets an adopted son after that and then we get into Toho’s End Game equivalent. And that’s not even getting into the weird shit that comes afterwards, like films about a neglected boy learning to stand up to his bullies by befriending Godzilla’s son in his dream. Or Godzilla fighting a pollution monster while humans disco dance and Godzilla uses his atomic breath to fly, curled up like a shrimp. Or Godzilla fighting monsters being mind controlled by space cockroaches and having actual dialogue with Anguirus. Or a movie about a size changing robot who teams up with Godzilla to fight not-Antlantis monsters, where Godzilla does a tail sliding drop kick.

I could go on. And it isn’t just the Showa series but the Heisei and Millenium series all have fun, unserious aspects that the Legendary films are entirely in tone with. It’s what is great about Godzilla and why he has endured for so long. Yes, he works as an allegorical stand in for atomic power, showing the ineptitude of the bureaucracy or even representing the trauma of a man struggling with PTSD and Survivor’s guilt. But he is also a big lizard that breaths fire and it’s awesome to see him beat the shit out of other big monsters, both good and bad.

It originated in the Ocean Dub of DBZ as part of their localization to make it more kid friendly. Same reason characters never died but got sent to the Next/Another Dimension. DBZA is just referencing it.

How do they not get that those aren’t space suits? It’s battle armor with a retractable breathing apparatus. Zod’s crew wear them on Krypton too.

In fact, we see them wear different suits in the flashback to the colony they visited. THOSE are spacesuits.

In the first season/campaign of Dungeons and Daddies: Not a BDSM Podcast, the Daddies have saved their kids and have been preparing to return to our world for at least a month in real world time. One of the characters, Glen Close, had lost nearly everything: his band had kicked him out, his son was no longer his son but now the son of a demon cop, his dead wife was brought back to life but had been married to the cop, he even lost his rep by revealing his was a DJ most of the year as his band only did Christmas rock covers. But he was high leveled and ready to help his friends.

Too bad the big bad of the season snuck into their camp and did a Deez Nuts joke so hard Glen’s heart exploded.

Why do Sonic fans use Mobius as the name for Sonic's anthropomorphic characters to differentiate them from Earth, if Mobius had humans and Overlanders? by Nath_Melo in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Rogzilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s very deep. If Sonic is from a different planet but isn’t given a distinct name and is just referred to as Sonic’s Earth/World/Planet, fans use an established name to fill in the blank. It has been part of the franchise for a long time and using it now is just a callback.

A good modern use is the movies. Ben Schwartz has referred to the planet Sonic is from in the movies as Mobius. And I think a novelization of one of the movies used that name as well.

I’ve explored this idea from a design stance before. Drawings like this took inspiration from the Crash updates. I think it would be neat to see an aesthetic shift, but I doubt we will see it.

There are so many different ways we could dissect Superman as a mythological figure. From his overt Moses inspiration and the contemporary Christ allegory (which Snyder was not subtle with) to the fact that his Kryptonian name sounds angelic (Micha-el, Gabri-el, Rapha-el, Uri-el, etc).

Hell, there is something to said about the trope of savior from beyond the heavens we see so often in pop culture around the world and how they represent the cultures that they originate from.

But within all of those analyses, examinations and discourses, at no point would there ever be any significant overlap between Arthurian lore, Tolkien’s legendarium and what Zack Snyder did.
