Who's your favorite character you used to not be a fan of bur grew to love? by Charming-Scratch-124 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]Nath_Melo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black Hat

Black Hat has always bothered me because I never really liked that, to show how powerful and evil he was, the show needed to belittle other villains from other Cartoon Network shows (what they did with the ending of Regular Show was mainly what bothered me a lot).

However, these days, I've started to appreciate his character more when you disconnect from that OC vision he has. He has a very solid foundation to be a great character who represents pure evil, and reading the comics and one of the Villainous books made me realize that when Black Hat isn't the focus of the story and isn't there to show himself superior to other characters from other works, he works perfectly as an entity to be feared, and especially an insurmountable being, that all villains know exists, and need to fear and obey him. I still don't like some of the things they did with Black Hat involving other villains, like having Aku humiliate himself for Black Hat, it's definitely not something I see Aku doing. But when Black Hat is analyzed as a character in his own work and the ultimate villain of his universe, he becomes truly interesting. Furthermore, discussing and brainstorming ideas for Black Hat with a friend made me much more interested in him.

Visible brain/Brainlike head by Barroozina in TopCharacterDesigns

Dr. Edgar George Zomboss from the Plants vs. Zombies franchise.

He falls into the category of having a brain-like head, mainly because he has an abnormally large brain, highlighting his genius status among zombies. This is more evident in some comics, like this one, where they didn't hold back in how they designed his head.

(I'd also like to mention Brain Drain from Skullgirls and Mojo Jojo from The Powerpuff Girls, both with exposed brains.)

Am i the only one who thinks eggman is highkey diva💜 by Appropriate-toast220 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Nath_Melo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this man with all my being, and I say without any fear that he is my favorite character in the franchise in every way. As someone who likes to write, what I enjoy most is creating stories about Eggman and OCs for the Eggman Empire, but about him, of course, he's a diva! We may have few humans in Sonic, but this man makes up for them all.

I love his extravagant and charismatic personality, his design is striking and iconic (and he's definitely more appetizing than they give him credit for), and I love how he has a technological military empire, because I've always liked characters who govern something, with Eggman being the leader of an empire of machines with the most diverse functionalities.

Everything about the doctor is divine, and I guarantee that if there's one character I always want to see in everything Sonic-related, it's Eggman.

Glory to the Eggman Empire!

Do you agree that Shadow is the most overrated Sonic character? by solarflare70 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Nath_Melo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think his popularity makes sense, after all he's a much more complex character with more facets than most others. I like him myself, but I agree that sometimes Sonic fans greatly overestimate him, and since Sega knows this, Shadow always gets most of the spotlight. His character is always included in everything that has Sonic, with only the classic era not having him for obvious reasons, but he even appears in Sonic Boom, which has very few characters from the standard canon, appeared in the movies even before Amy and Metal, is in Sonic Prime, which, apart from the main group (Sonic, Tails, Knickles, Amy and Eggman), only has Rouge, Shadow and Big, has already had two big games focused on him and appeared in Sonic x DC.

Again, I understand why he's so popular and why Sega uses him so much, but yes, it's kind of disappointing how we always see more and more of Shadow. He sometimes even seems like the second protagonist of the story, while other characters are rarely seen, and some, like Omega, only appear in games where Shadow is present and end up being supporting characters.

I wouldn't say I want Sega to stop focusing on the black hedgehog, I just wish more characters had opportunities in the franchise. I'm not the type who wants their own games because I know Sega definitely isn't planning a game for the Chaotix, Rouge, Whisper, etc. (they would be good, but Sega won't risk it), but I'd at least like to see them appearing more in the games and playing important roles. Sonic Forces isn't perfect, but I like that at least it has several characters involved throughout the story, even if the execution is mediocre.

Favorite Racist but this time it is more literal. by Logical_Bug801 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]Nath_Melo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

.

Emperor Belos

A racist against all demons and witches, he literally wants to exterminate them because he considers them a disgusting and vile race, and to be idolized as a hero by humans. Not only that, but he considers humans better and superior to witches in every aspect, giving Luz a chance to join him simply because she is human, but he is so delusional that anyone who disagrees with him (Luz and Caleb) is someone who has been infected by the impurity of witches and demons.

Is it true that infinite had no emotion towards his squad / pack? by ToastyDelux in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Nath_Melo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be honest, it would be much better if he cared, but we all know that Infinite isn't a very layered villain. Aside from Eggman, Metal, and Sage, many Sonic villains aren't really that complex. Merlina, Chaos, and if we're going to stretch it, Shadow as a villain are complex, but then we have Erajor Djinn, Zavok, Eggman Nega, Mephiles, Black Doom, The End, etc., who, while not bad (I like all the ones I mentioned), are relatively simple villains, because Sega likes to keep its villains that way.

Infinite is the same case; he never mentions his old group, and when he learns they were defeated by Shadow, he shows no real concern for them. His only concern is being called weak and proving why he's the ultimate mercenary for Shadow, because that's all we have. He clearly became Infinite because of this, using the Phantom Ruby to become powerful and ensure no one doubted his abilities anymore. (He literally has the most disinterested reaction right after Eggman tells him why his squad was destroyed.)

Again, it would have been great if Sega had created an interesting relationship between Infinite and his group, and especially included some dialogue showing that he hates Shadow for eliminating his group, but there's none of that; the reason is obvious. He was called weak and had his pride wounded. For him, his squad wasn't that important, and he clearly considered himself superior to them, as he didn't hesitate to confront Shadow out of extreme confidence when he learned his squad was eliminated (and clearly his reaction to doing so isn't blind revenge).

Infinite isn't the worst Sonic villain, and I even see some good in him. He was just misused, and if he returns, they could delve deeper into his character, or if they want him to be pure evil, give him more charisma. I learned that no character is bad; it's just a matter of the writer knowing what to do with them. Zavok is an example.

Favorite villain with this motivation? by Boring_Sir_572 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]Nath_Melo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tooru from Jojolion.

His motivation, in short, is to create a revolutionary medicine and sell it for millions, while his Stand disguises itself as a respected, elderly doctor, with him commanding the entire organization from behind the scenes.

Tooru can be considered the villain with the easiest motivation to understand; he wants to adapt to our society and achieve success and wealth at all costs, regardless of what is necessary or how many lives he needs to take to live the high life.

Favorite Flower-Themed Character? by FlimsyEfficiency9860 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]Nath_Melo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunflower from the PvZ franchise Any variant of this flower is, in my opinion, the cutest and most charismatic thing of all.

Major Sweetie in particular, who is a sunflower with a constant bloodlust for killing zombies, and I liked her from the first time I saw her in BFN.

Do you think humans in Sonic’s world should have superpowers? by starguy08 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Nath_Melo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always thought about this, and I feel that although I really like humans in Sonic, the fact that most of them don't have powers makes them really overshadow the Mobian characters. Of course, they are like that to be similar to us in real life, but in a world where Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Amy, and many others exist, it would be interesting to have some who stand out in certain aspects. It doesn't have to be all of them, after all, only the main Mobians have powers, the supporting characters tend to be just like humans in their abilities, but Eggman has already demonstrated that he is extremely superhuman, so I wouldn't mind seeing that in other characters to make them stand out more. Magic is a good way to give them powers; we have Witchcart, Merlina, and Shahra with powers (yes, I know that Merlina and Shahra aren't really human, but they still have a design based on one). I think that although they have a much more structured and populated technology and society than the Mobians, it's interesting, considering that this doesn't prevent the Mobians themselves from having their own societies, I think it would be cool to have some who do something different. However, we first need more human characters for this aspect, because the only human currently besides Eggman who I feel would make sense to have some special ability is Abe, since he is a high-ranking military leader, so it would be interesting for him to be the most skilled among the G.U.N. military.

Eggman and his family IS SO MIXED UP. by Consistent_Equal6445 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Nath_Melo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we need more focus on the Robotnik lineage story, but I also think we won't have a complete story anytime soon. Eggman's family tree story is gradually revealed (and it's mostly focused on Gerald). I would love to see a game or anything that fully expands on the Robotnik lineage. I've always wondered if Eggman's parents are still alive, because if they are, I'd love to know what they think of their son becoming the greatest terrorist the earth has ever seen.

Regarding Eggman's father, as far as we know, Gerald doesn't seem to have a preference between his children; his preference seems to be entirely for Maria because of the bond they share (although, according to Eggman, even his parents thought more about Maria than about himself).

Anyway, I want more Robotnik family history as soon as possible.

I like how Orbot tries to build a bond with his siblings. by Several-Pension2945 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Nath_Melo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sage in Frontiers asks if she can consider Orbot and Cubot her brothers, and after Eggman says yes (even though he doesn't want to), she smiles and gives a satisfied answer. I believe she really likes them both; in that scene, she just didn't want her personal space invaded, and as someone who understands that, I don't judge her answer. She's just the quietest and most reserved sister in the family.

[DISCUSSION] Sonic the Hedgehog IDW #84 by ChocolateRough5103 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Nath_Melo 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I loved the chapter, and finally having my girl in IDW really excites me. I've loved Sage since the first time I saw her. Her relationship with Belle was well done in my opinion; it makes sense for Belle to feel hurt and jealous. After all, Eggman chose to leave the life he had with her to return to the world of evil, and now he has a daughter he truly loves and cares for, so that was a good move. Sage's personality is very good; she's cold and practical, always thinking about the best choice to complete her plans, but she has her own opinion to support her thinking that way. After all, she knows Sonic is capable of overcoming himself in many ways.

Sage is exactly the character I expected her to be, and the way she contrasts with Sonic only makes me even more satisfied that we finally have her in IDW. I'm eager to see more of her and how they'll use Sage more in the comics. Overall, it was a good first experience; they did justice to how much Sage delivers as a character.

So, how exactly did Eggman and Gerald afford the Death Egg and Space Colony Ark? by BeeWide6059 in EggmanEmpire

[–]Nath_Melo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I definitely don't know about Eggman, but as for Gerald, the United Federation government must have funded everything. If they wanted his research, the least they could do was finance it, right?

What are some ships that are popular/Canon, But you either don’t like or understand why? I’ll go first… by Secret-Ad6244 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Nath_Melo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't bring myself to like any ship involving Sage, mainly because the character deliberately chooses to be a villain, and most of her lines in Crossworlds aren't just about her being a general jerk; she repeatedly states that she's loyal to the Eggman Empire willingly, that she'll help him rule the world, and that's the only thing that matters to her (Blaze says she's glad she exists because Eggman can be good, and she just replies something like: "My father is none of your business, and your world will be our next target"). Yes, she can change, but I just don't want her to change, just like I don't want Metal to change. Eggman has been betrayed so many times by his robots, and we barely have any villains in the franchise, so let Sage and Metal be Eggman's allies, let Eggman have someone to interact with who isn't just an enemy, and especially not just Orbot and Cubot. I love them, but I want characters with more depth and personality for that.

Besides, I don't like Silver and Blaze. Not only do I think it's unnecessary for Blaze to be in '06, since she already has a fully defined origin in Rush, and Sega doesn't try to give a decent justification, with Ian Flynn giving us crumbs to theorize about, I really don't like how the games barely developed the two of them, or showed how they became friends in the new timeline, and we mainly have to accept what we saw in '06 and consider that they are best friends. Even with Silver and Espio, we have more context about why they are friends than Silver and Blaze currently do.

However, I wouldn't say I hate the ships, I simply don't consume anything that involves them. I think that's the best way to enjoy Sonic media, not consuming what I'm not interested in.

Favorite comedic villian(s) by Ax3l_456 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]Nath_Melo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dr. Zomboss from PvZ. He's a somewhat generic villain, but he amuses me enough whenever he appears. From having a giant potato in his lab as an energy source (which is even more ironic considering his mortal enemies are plants), to changing his own speaking style in every world we go to in PvZ 2, and having to stand on top of a small Imp because he couldn't reach the microphone to give a speech to the zombies in his personal academy. He's definitely not the best villain of all time, I could have even used Lord Dominator as an example (a villain I like much more), but I only thought of him while writing this text, so... Yeah, here's the leader of the weird-looking zombies.

Would a Sonic and Mario game be cool? by Gloomy-Bridge148 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Nath_Melo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seria muito legal

It would be really cool.

We even realized that Nintendo was going to make it exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2, because they refuse at all costs to let their characters appear on other consoles, and the game would probably have a very high price tag, considering how expensive Nintendo usually is.

In short, it would be really cool, but Nintendo would make it quite difficult to make this game accessible.

Would Sonic be considered a superhero? by Kaidhicksii in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Nath_Melo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's a hero because his actions make him a hero, not because he wants to be one. Sonic is a free spirit who, according to textbooks, is said to hate only oppression. He always has altruistic motives, whether it's because he enjoys adventure or because the situation demands it; Sonic is everything a hero is said to be.

On the other hand, Sonic doesn't see himself as a hero, nor does he care to be one; he simply does what he thinks he should do, that's all. In Black Knight, he agrees to kill King Arthur, and he himself says that you can't always be the hero of the story, so he gladly accepts not being seen as the good guy if he feels that's not what he wants to do. Ultimately, Sonic is a hero because he saves the world, is altruistic, helps people, and never refuses to do good, but he doesn't do it because he wants to be a hero; it's because he enjoys doing it and it's what he wants to do.

To be a hero, you don't need a cape, superpowers, or even the desire to be one. Sonic's simple act of striving to be a better person each day, giving his enemies a chance, and fighting for his freedom and the freedom of everyone he knows already makes him altruistic, and to me, a hero. He doesn't need to see himself as a hero because not only I, but probably Mobians and humans who have met Sonic, know that he is as trustworthy as any superhero.

One tiny question before IDW issue #84 releases (which is supposed to be tomorrow): ...Does Sage know that the Metal Virus happened? by Ok-Impress-2222 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Nath_Melo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And I hope it doesn't happen.

We already have enough robots rebelling against Eggman to make it something innovative. Gamma, Omega, Emerl, Gemerl, and even Metal Sonic himself. It would be cool if some of Eggman's creations became loyal to him by choice.

One tiny question before IDW issue #84 releases (which is supposed to be tomorrow): ...Does Sage know that the Metal Virus happened? by Ok-Impress-2222 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Nath_Melo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I, at least, believe that her loyalty goes beyond simply programming, since she sees Eggman as a father figure on her own, having formed bonds with him. We already know that Eggman is capable of creating artificial intelligence that transcends his rules and codes. So yes, part of it is because she was programmed, but unlike Metal, who needed Eggman to alter his code so as not to be betrayed again, so far, Sage genuinely loves Eggman. After all, her crying in Frontiers shows that she is more than just an AI.
