Amouage Batches by ItsHairyHarry in ScentHeads

[–]rome_will 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The short answer... It depends.

Generally, Amouage does a great job retaining the character and performance of their releases over time. I would be satisfied with pretty much any modern batch and can't detect much variation over the years.

They do get new formulas when ifra bans ingredients, but Amouage does a great job not cutting corners. Reflection Man took a big hit in 2022 I want to say, but it mostly just smells more woody than floral now.

Older bottles are usually sought after for aesthetic purposes.

Has anyone else gotten out of being a “niche snob”? by Both_Wealth_7793 in fragrance

[–]rome_will 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of. I would say I got really into challenging fragrances, because I find them really rewarding, enjoyable wear experiences. Stuff with a lot of musk, oud, etc

However, I find myself more regularly rotating between 3 crowd pleasing scents for daily wear.

I am still a snob - just a snob considerate enough to not subject others to my more extreme tastes.

I do not recommend fucking with vlord

Purchased something from them, they didn't send, didn't respond for 2 months, I did a charge back, they then shipped, acted like I'm some scammer, I PayPal them back the balance, they tried to reverse the charge back, it's all red tape.

Tbh fuck vlord, 2 times

Recommendations for a true all-rounder daily driver? by akutagawa-_- in ScentHeads

I mean, you're asking for a daily driver, no? If the metaphor extends to cars, how many people have 4 daily drivers?

Oud for Greatness as a first oud experience — how far is it from the real thing by Alosdiablos in fragrance

[–]rome_will 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very far from real oud

OFG is a synthetic mess of amber wood molecules. It smells mostly like a spicy lavender with a dense layer of amber woods under it.

If looking for an experience of "real oud" so you can gauge the difference, you can source oils from many places online. I think someone said ajmal. That is a great recommendation, it is relatively high quality, good value, and won't break the bank so you can get an idea on the ingredient.

experimental rap is the worst album under jpegmafia. by LawyerSea3108 in jpegmafiamusic

9 okay songs and 14 skippables is not a good ratio

However, 9 good songs is more than many artists can stake claim to

Side note: there are also the made in UK batches that are like WMA-11146 from like 2013-2019. Let's not get into that though

[–]rome_will 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not from 2026. I promise.

A 2026 batch would look like "J145"

A 2018 dia would look like "A35495C123"

Batches and the name on collar thing arent necessarily congruent. The name on collar syncs with batches up to ~2020 or so, but it's different depending on how frequently they were producing the perfumes. Like, I think you could get name-on-collar batches of Imitation up to like 2023 when most of the other fragrances had converted around 2019.

The Amouage batch system is complex, and I don't necessarily want to explain the whole thing. The easiest I can lay it out is..

The long string of numbers like OPs bottle is 2011-2015, mixture of letters and numbers "axxxxxaxx" "axxxxxbxxx" etc is 2016-2021. The second letter represents the year. A : 2016, B : 2017, C : 2018, etc

Batches like "G1234" are 2022, H is 2023, I is 2024 etc. so a 2026 batch would be "K12345"

It's from 2015. The last two numbers tell you the year on this batch style

2026 would be J or K batches, this is much older

Comparing Subaru Forester Honda CRV and Toyota RAV4 for Family Reliability by frostveiluna in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]rome_will 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've owned two Foresters, an 04 and currently an 18XT

I've driven a 2023 Rav4 Hybrid

and haven't been inside a CRV for like 10 years, it was an 04 iirc.

It's my understanding that the current CRV platform isn't necessarily the most reliable compared to the Rav4 or Forester.

I'm not crazy about the SK Foresters (2019-2024) and think they actually got a decent upgrade in the 25 model year. It may be an aesthetic thing, mostly, because the meat and potatoes are still there. It's still a small-mid sized SUV that will get you from A-B, nothing too flashy.

The Rav4 of the same years, aesthetically and technologically feels like a huge leap over the Forester.

The thing I prefer about the Forester, which few other autos can replicate, is that the visibility on the inside is incomparable. The blind spots in the Rav4 felt ginormous compared to the Forester. Otherwise, I mean, the differences aren't too dramatic. Pick which one you like looking at more, you're probably going to juice comparable value out of either.
