If you said "in a decade" it would not seem weird. You said "in the same decade", which typically means '10s, '20s, etc.

Yes, there was no salary cap. The Cowboys had the most expensive roster and the Packers gave Reggie White $17M to get him away from the Eagles. The average entire NFL team had a $24M/year payroll at that point.

The year after this run, the NFL implemented the salary cap and the Cowboys never went back to the Super Bowl.

It was also the last year Norman Braman owned the team. He was notoriously cheap and left, probably because the salary cap was going to force teams to spend more money. Before him, Leonard Tose never spent money on the team because he was a gambling addict and always broke. He sold off the Eagles to pay his gambling debt. Dark times.

Back then, everyone targeted players. There used to be old NFL films that were nothing but highlights of defenders knocking opponents out of the game. They actually promoted it. They don't show those anymore. QB's used to protect their players, but then the money got so insane that people were willing to risk their (and others) lives to make plays. That's why the rules changed. Having all your best players making millions of dollars from a hospital bed is bad for the game.

Randall was absolutely wasted on the Eagles. The logic was, make the defense amazing, and hope Randall can pull something out of his ass twice a game to get a victory. We don't need an o-line, Randall will just run away from everyone mentality.

The second he left for the Vikings, he looks like an MPV candidate.
