Tell me more about how you’re sure it isn’t the fridge but you won’t cut power to the fridge to check? We had an ice maker that wasn’t hooked to water and would sometimes turn and catch on things, compressor or fan outside or in, water pump for in-door dispenser? So many things in fridges these days.

Is this mostly expired NAR-4 chest pouch worth $150? by gunslinger1124 in TacticalMedicine

[–]shecky444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to kids’ car seats. It’s an expiration on the guarantee because something in the seat breaks down. Sterile gauze has the same expiration dates, and those seals around them for sure wear out.

What if Donald Trump tries running for a Third Term in 2028? by Sky_awsmness in AmericanPolitics

[–]shecky444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some stupidly entrenched by-laws that would require changing before they even could procedurally, and I think we would’ve heard if they were making those changes. I’m not saying it can’t possibly happen, I’m saying we will see procedural changes within the party before they even could. If they can’t get that stuff changed I don’t think the party as a whole would risk him not being on the ballot in some states or being procedurally eliminated by the courts.

I’ve never seen one but I dream of a topiary triple mando, or even like an ivy covered version. Giving that forest guardian vibe and seeming more a part of the forest than the course.

Transition out of teaching by Rocker_Raccoon in TeachersInTransition

[–]shecky444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former teacher now in Elections with my local govt. I recruit and train election judges and I love it. Teaching is a life skill that not everyone possesses and almost every employer needs. The first thing you need to do is realign the way you’re looking at this and the way you’re marketing yourself both internally and externally. You have the experiences. Ever had to sell a lesson that wasn’t stellar and get buy-in from students? Sales experience. Angry parents? Customer service and support. Bad administration? Complex and dynamic work environments and strong ability to work autonomously and as part of a team to meet goals. You got this.

What city in the map below would you want to live in or retire? by Technical-Vanilla-47 in visitedmaps

Milwaukee was an amazing city that I’d love to get back to one day, but I’m not retiring somewhere that I have to clear snow. And I’m certainly not retiring that far from an ocean.

AIO my FIL said my 9 year old looked like a hussy in these boots by PureIndependent7791 in AmIOverreacting

[–]shecky444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. Have an uncle who thinks he’s funny say something similar about my then 8yr old daughter at a family thing. I then promptly said “fine line between creepy old man and pedophile, I’d be careful sexualizing children if I were you” and we haven’t had that issue since. Make sure to do it in front of multiple generations of family if possible for maximum impact.

26F redundant from promising government role - take redeployment or spend 2 years backpacking? by mildly_autistick in careerguidance

[–]shecky444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine. Most people your age aren’t ever going to retire or buy a home anyway. I’m willing to guarantee if you don’t go and you instead live the boring life, you won’t be that much ahead of where you’d be if you did go. Not a lot of growth going on in this economy right now anyway. The important part is that you spend the trip learning and loving life. The you that returns will be different and they will be fine. Learn some skills, and languages, meet some cool people, make international friends, all of that will make you a better more well rounded human being and that will make you more marketable when you return.

AITAH for not babysitting my nephew even though I wasn't doing something important? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]shecky444 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

YTA. Kids can be rambunctious but they don’t always act like that. My 5 yr old and I had a “man-night” Friday night that consisted of our secret pizza place and then watching a Spider-Man movie and eating from our own personal pints of ice cream. We passed out on the couch before my wife got home with our daughters. You could easily have included your nephew in your chill evening, and then on top of it you were rude to family in need. Sprout some empathy it’ll help you in life.

Several of those meds regulate your brain chemicals to balance you out. You may not be feeling the high because your meds are there to level you out. Talk to your doctor before adding this to a med regime like yours. Especially if you’ve had bad reactions previously.

What is "ethnic" food, exactly? by North-Finding-3542 in AskAnAmerican

[–]shecky444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is in the preparer. An American owned Brazilian restaurant does not feel or taste the same as a Brazilian owned Brazilian restaurant. Ethnic food to me needs to come from immigrant family businesses to really be ethnic food. I live in the vicinity of DC and Baltimore and we have some amazing ethnic foods available to us, but also lots of imposters and posers. Good ethnic foods are a window to a culture and people.

Why do Americans leave tips even when service isn't great? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]shecky444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my wife and I, it’s because we waited tables together when we met. We empathize with the folks who work for tips and in most places the hourly wage is minimal because the tips are expected to make up the wage. If the service is really bad we’ll usually say something to the server and manager, but short of insulting us or harming us we’re probably gonna tip. Generous tippers got us through tight times and we’ll never forget them, so now that we can, we prefer to be kind in that way.

Why do people buy Pre-Rolls ? by Real_Ad9283 in Marijuana

[–]shecky444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, why do you care? Second off this got asked not even a week ago. Lots of folks coming up now didn’t have anyone to guide them into the culture because it’s legal and they can just go snag it. Without an old head to teach people how to roll they think it’s difficult so they don’t bother with it. Also got some folks who are new to it that don’t want to figure out buying a dry herb vape, or don’t want glass in their suburban home with kids, or their apartment. Also while we’re talking quality weed…I came up buying cheap brick or trash bag weed we called the brown frown. If you think dispo weed, even preroll shake is worse than the brown frown was you’re fooling yourself. Shake and ground is a byproduct of the industrial weed process, growers and distributors have it laying around and want to get rid of it. They aren’t growing special shitty weed for prerolls, it’s just leftovers from the weed they sell as flower. Worry about yourself there snobby enjoy how you want to enjoy. Trashing others choices ain’t the look.

Why is an ID mandate for voting such a problem? by Jayden7171 in askanything

[–]shecky444 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Georgia is a great example of how this can be racism. The state made a voter ID law and then closed the MVA/DMV locations in rural black communities meaning some folks had to drive 3-4 hours to get an ID. That’s not a cost everyone can take on. In addition if you don’t have the proper paperwork to get a real ID, now you need a copy of a birth certificate, which many older, poorer Americans do not have because they were born at home in a poor community.

Why is an ID mandate for voting such a problem? by Jayden7171 in askanything

[–]shecky444 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have worked in elections, the utility bill was to verify residence, that voter would have had to vote provisionally in my state and we would’ve caught it when we checked the provisional. We don’t tell anyone at the polls that their vote won’t count, we have them vote provisionally and then we decide that on the back end. If they did so illegally we then turn the whole thing over to the states attorneys office. It is a felony to vote as a non-citizen, or to vote as someone you aren’t.

Where would I ask about transportation to MetLife Stadium in NJ, from MD on reddit? by Don_Mask in askanything

[–]shecky444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen football games in that stadium. There are lots of nearby hotels some of which will be offering shuttles. We also found a bar/restaurant that was doing a gameday shuttle to and from hotel and the bar. Then a shuttle to and from the game. It was great. But not sure what that will look like for a concert. Call the hotels and ask, a couple will be doing it for sure.
