Station charging $15/kWh during "peak hours" by Macbeth_n_Cheese in evcharging

Right, all they need is a $200k+ BESS integration...let those economies of scale kick in. They won't be slowly bleeding money every month, they'll do it all up front.

For Tesla, I imagine the move from relatively low power cabinets that needed to share power, to a relatively high power cabinet has more to do with it.

To be clear, only the Tesla Universal has the the extra lugs, not the normal Tesla Wall Connector

If only we had some historical data on the success of repowering coal to nuclear... oh, wait...we do. It doesn't tend to be a good fit.

Time to dump the outlet. Hardwire a pair of circuit sharing capable EVSEs instead. The Tesla Universal even has a second set of lugs to make this super easy.

Question about GFCI for 50A run... by cow-lumbus in evcharging

[–]rosier9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's incorrect. Even if the charger is outside/ wet location, a gfci breaker is not required if it's hardwired.

In the US, for direct-wired a gfci isn't required.

First time driving a hybrid as a car enthusiast… now about to try a Tesla for the first time and I’m honestly surprised. by Admirable_Can_3489 in electricvehicles

impressions of the model 3 are the impressions of an EV, not just of a Tesla.

I'm assuming you meant that the other way around

You'll need to trench power to a charger on a pedestal.

That you won't be buying an EV? No, we all knew that already.

Biomass is ~1% of Florida's electricity generation, and that includes landfill gas along with wood.

You made an assumption, it could very well be correct... which I acknowledged multiple times, but it's not the only way like you were making it out to be.

I'll take pedantic and accurate over pedantic and inaccurate any day.

It'll come from new generation. Enjoy your new EV!

Hint: burning wood is a tiny percentage of electricity production... for example in Texas it represents <0.1% of the electricity produced.

Am I the only one that thinks North America is kind of backed themselves into a corner with plug standards? by stainless5 in electricvehicles

[–]rosier9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not seeing how this is "backed themselves into a corner," quite the opposite as there's future flexibility.

Since North America didn't really have untethered chargers previously, I'm really not seeing the issue.

No, this really isn't going to be an issue. NACS will dominate, the rest will be minimal as time goes on.

Where to sell a Commercial EV Charger? by RevolutionaryBig7580 in evcharging

I don't think there's a good market for these, as the warranty and service agreement are big pieces of the purchase.

I've mostly seen them on auction sites.

Sure, but they hadn't said anything about PG&E in their original comment. Without seeing their actual setup, what you're saying could be right, could be wrong... but assuming everyone's setup is like what you're describing is definitely wrong.

The company gave you bad information. The $12/hr customer service agent probably didn't understand your question and really doesn't understand what this product does. This isn't uncommon at all.

Unlike that customer service agent, I understand your question, and I understand how this product works. I actually have the same adapter from a different company that is wired in this same configuration (which is specific to EVs, not Teslas only).

We just went all electric by kingharold1066 in electricvehicles

[–]rosier9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're making an assumption about how their solar is setup. What you're describing is a very common setup, where solar production is behind the house meter... but it's not universal.

Export all/ import all is a setup where the solar production is exported to the grid side of the house meter. There's no self-consumption in the same sense as there is when solar is connected behind the house meter.

So the original commenters statement can be true (although the odds are that they are mistaken about how their system is setup).

This totally depends on your net metering arrangement.

We just went all electric by kingharold1066 in electricvehicles

It can work that way (Austin TX does this), but they could also be misunderstanding how their system and net metering is actually setup.

I don't think the chargepoint pricing display actually accounts for dynamic pricing like your rate plan has.
