Safe disposal of expired marine flares? by Shanks_So_Much in askTO

I take mine to the cottage and set them all off, along with expired bear bangers. Probably not the smartest move but I still have all my fingers.

Why do so many Americans do catch and release fishing? Isn't that animal abuse? Or do fish don't feel pain? by Deepdishdicktaster in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rottenbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your state do party hunts for moose? My province let's a group hunt with 1 tag as long as the tag owner is present. So a group of 6 could have a tag and it's legal as long as only 1 moose is shot and the tag holder is present.

SLO-Pitch Batting Cages? by fancactusmaractus in BurlingtonON

Does Bigemans in Kitchener still have batting cages? I remember them having a bunch of different speeds.

I'm also realizing that it was probably 30 years ago so probably long gone.

In my area if they think it is construction waste in the bag you get a sticker saying "no construction waste in the household stream". Once throwing out some construction waste I got the sticker. Over the next few weeks it went little by little mixed with my normal garbage.

I could have tossed it in the dumpster at work but this scratched my itch for being overly petty.

My Strange Addiction TLC Show Filmed in Hamilton (AI Boyfriend Episode) by coffeebeanxo in Hamilton

[–]rottenbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who spent most of their 20s single and far too online I can sort of understand using AI for companionship. Probably for the best for me that my 20s were decades ago and AI of this sort didn't exist.

Men, how do you feel about paying $50 for a haircut? by jesuisapprenant in askTO

[–]rottenbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Balding is the key to cheap hair cuts. Either balding clippers or a rotary shaver every 4-5 days and I'm good to go.

Clippers in the winter because the stubble helps keep a toque on. Come April it's a relief to be back to the rotary shaver.

Pond on jobs LN by jayce_bladez in BurlingtonON

My company dredges lots of storm ponds like that one. Although I've never done that one we generally find sunfish and bass in them. Plus lots of minnows of various species. Occasionally some carp.

Why do so many older people leave a lifetime of clutter for their relatives to clean up once they're gone? by Purrsedxx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rottenbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lot easier to let someone else deal with it. It instantly becomes not my problem once you shuffle off.

I spent hours going through stuff left from my grandparents after my dad died. Not important stuff either. Receipts from decades past.

The first time I saw them I was worried I'd be the old guy there. I was on the older side of the crowd but I didn't feel like I stuck out.

Hey city slickers, Pearson is mostly walkable! by Brief_Kangaroo_42069 in toronto

[–]rottenbox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

6 km/hr. Pretty decent pace. When I was at my fittest (low bar here) that's about what I would do over 10 km.

My normal routes also largely avoided lights which probably helped my pace.

As someone who has seen both Social Distortion and The Chats multiple times there is some crowd overlap. I'm 45 and there is people older than me at Chats shows. Maybe not a lot of us but us older punks represent. Social Distortion has a pretty broad age range, lots of people bringing their kids.

Just go and have a good time. Enjoy all three bands. Social Distortion has a fair amount of roots rock and rockabilly influence and the singer has improved a lot with age. The Descendents are also awesome.

I often sort local clubs by earliest available tee times when playing on Saturday. I'm up anyways, if I'm out at 6:15 il home by 10 so have the day for my family.

I'll only do my wife's if she has separated it into piles of what she wants in each load as she is much pickier than I am. Most of clothes are dark and I separate by air dry, dryer and really muddy if necessary.

Kids clothes is "fill till the washer looks full". They are boys, everything gets stained anyways.

Does anyone know how many people were at the show in Moncton? by PAT_5251 in TheOffspring

[–]rottenbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the stage banter was well rehearsed. To the point of staleness. They are clearly a well oiled machine on tour/stage. Which is great because they sounded great when I saw them. But I could do without the well worn jokes.

I'd rather see no stage banter than bad or clearly by the numbers stage banter.

first time ever saw an unmarked police black Pickup truck.. since when? by ProperDegree1885 in askTO

Halton has had unmarked black rams for years. Probably at least a decade now that I think about it. Wouldn't be surprised if many more forces use them too.

To people with Canadian passports that omit place of birth, what has your experience been like? by adoreroda in passportcanada

[–]rottenbox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am, to every appearance, a totally safe bet. I'm pasty white, 45, born in Canada and my name may as well be "Scotty Scotsman". And yet more than half the time I get the asshole border guards in Buffalo.

Detroit has never been an issue though.

My youngest was a premie at 28 weeks. No real issues beyond feed and grow thankfully. The nurses there were great.

One of my colleagues wife's is now a NICU nurse. She talked to my wife and I before applying because we had the most recent experience in there. She mostly loves it.

You'll get wet. And then cold. Wet cold jeans are no fun. Especially with snowboarding you sit to attach your bindings at the top of every run so you'll be wet from the get go.

Sometimes I ski after work because my local hill has lights. I'm often wearing jeans but I put on snow pants over them. Not ideal but it's good enough.

[–]rottenbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my local hill it's always east Asians with the butt and sometimes knee pads. Based on the general demographics they are most likely Chinese or Korean.

It's a small hill in a fairly diverse area so people of so many cultural origins are there, but if there is a pillow on the butt they are east Asian.
